Yamaha Les Paul "Lawsuit" replica. Not sure of the age but probably early 1980's. It's a tobacco sunburst with the standard Les Paul controls, set neck, bridge and Kluson style tuners. "Lord Player" is written on the headstock to look like "Les Paul". It's VERY heavy and appears to have a 3 piece Maple top over a solid mahogany body just like the old Les Pauls. Whoever owned it didn't play it much as it has very little wear and looks very nice! Poly finish too and chrome rather than nickel hardware. From 20 feet it looks like a genuine Les Paul!!

Sound : 9
I've always been a single-coil guy and I bought this because I liked the "Les Paul" sound my lead guitarist was getting. There was NO WAY I could afford several thousand bucks for a genuine Les Paul so I started researching Greco/Burny/Aria copies and stumbled across this guitar on Ebay for a ridiculously low price. When I first plugged it in and hit a chord my jaw nearly hit the ground! Really meaty, fat chunk on the neck, smoother midrange on middle position and biting snarl on the bridge. With a TS9 or equivalent this thing nails the AC/DC, Guns N Roses hard rock sound. Makes me want to dig in! My mate couldn't believe how good it sounded as his Gibsons really are not that much different. It sustains like crazy and has that richness of sound that comes from a quality guitar...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
This had obviously not been played much and it needed a good set up and ajustment but now it has nice low action and feels really solid and dependable. I'll whack on some straplocks soon but other than that I'm leaving it stock as it sounds perfect for my needs.

Reliability/Durability : 9
As I said before this thing feels really weighty and solid so I see no reason why it would not stand up to live playing. I'm not likely to do a Pete Townsend on it so it would stand up to gigs just as well as any genuine Les Paul. I always gig with a backup as it's unprofessional not to! You never know what could happen but this guitar looks and feels the biz!

These haven't been made for over 20 years and any attempt to get info out of Yamaha is met with a wall of silence! Their web site doesn't even acknowledge them but they did get sued by Gibson so maybe they wanna forget it ever happened!

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for nearly 30 years and own several Strats, Teles and 2 nice Rickenbackers. If this was stolen I'd be really angry because they are quite a rarity. The "Studio Lord" that was made later is not as good in the quality stakes and has the non correct headstock and many also have bolt on necks. I'll be looking after it and playing it regularly as it looks as though its been sitting in a case for far too many years. Everyone talks about Greco and Burny as the top lawsuit guitars from Japan but the Lord Player is a nice little player that has slipped under the radar. I played a few Epiphones not long after I got this and there was NO comparison! No wonder Gibson (and Fender too!) got nervous about the Japanese copies! They look, feel, play and sound almost identical to the old Gibsons for a fraction of the cost. If you can track one down I highly recommend it!!!!

ebony, very standard Gibby LP-like. the machine heads are chrome solid Yamaha Kluson-type, very good. MIJ. I dunno when it was made, probably late 70s or early 80s.

my luthier says its neck is mahogany. Mahogany body with maple top. 22 small frets (which I'm itching to have refretted to jumbos) on a rosewood fingerboard.

very wide neck..Arggh!

Sound : 10
I use it through a Fender Champ 25SE or a Roland Supercube 100. The sound is a vintage Paul. Not too thick as most modern LPs.

I hate the wide fingerboard. I may develop tendonitis in a year or two playing this guitar.

I never got to try the orig PUs. I bought the guitar 2nd hand, the neck still had the orig PU (although, the cover was already removed) and the brigde had a Fernandes Bill Lawrence/Dimebag style humbucker which wasn't connected. Being a Slash fan, I replaced both PUs with a pair Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro 2's.

The body was in great condition. Save for some minor dings and rust on the bridge and stoptail. I had installed brass saddles on it.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Dependable. I've installed Schallers straplocks.

If it were stolen. aww, total heart breaking. If I can find another, that's an "IF" because unlike its brother the Studio Lord, the Lord Player is a lot harder to find.

1980's Japan Les Paul replica, SOLID carved maple(?)top, mahogany body and neck. Has the exact Gibson headstock shape(lawsuit)and Lord Player is written to look like Les Paul. Great medium-fat neck. Built just like the old Gibsons.

Sound : 9
Sound is fantastic, better than the genuine Les Pauls that I've owned. It has that vintage P.A.F. vibe down pat. Nails the rock and roll/blues sounds perfectly. I play through a A.R.T. SGX 2000 express into a Marshall power amp to JBL speakers or a Digitech RP100 into a Fender Pro Jr. I lowered the neck pickup way down and raised the bridge pickup more. This really balanced the sound at any volume/tone setting.

Bought used so I don't know about the factory set-up. It wasn't in the best shape when I got it,the string height was high, fret height was uneven and the nut wasn't cut as deep as possible.I think this is true of most new guitars I've seen, the manufacturers don't bother to set them up. Had the original frets crowned and leveled and the nut re-cut by a luthier and now the action is super low.
Finish is a beautiful dark sunburst on a nice matched top. Looks great and will probably last forever. It has a few dings on the back but no big deal.
Hardware all original and seems good with little wear from years of playing.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Built like a tank. I use it without a backup when I gig and it never lets me down.

Used. Hard to find information about this model. Made for Japanese market.Yamaha has a Studio Lord Model that is similar, except the headstock is not the exact Gibson shape.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for about 20 years and have owned many guitars and this one is a keeper. It's better than most Gibsons I've played and it was alot less money. I also have a Tokai Love Rock and an ESP strat. I like top quality guitars without paying top dollar for the name on them. I'm always on the hunt for another.

This Guitar was made in 1984, I purchased it new from a music store in Japan in 1984. I have owned this Guitar a Long time and have yet to see another one. It keeps up with anything else in its style. It is a "Les Paul standard" copy down to the gold signature that says Lord Player. I have had many offers for this guitar. I think it is a Gem. Any info on it would be appreciated.

Sound : 8
It suits my style well and has a rich sound played on a Marshall AVT now. Everything from Blues to Metal this Guitar holds its own well. I sold it 7 years ago when times were hard and bought it back after searching for something comparable at a reasonable price. Needless to say it will one day be a part of my estate upon my death.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The action is extremely smooth and finish looks to be black lacquer.I have never touched the pickups. I have yet to see any real flaws in workmanship. The parts all fit well and aligned well. The neck is as straight as I have seen or played.

Reliability/Durability : 9
It has withstood 17 years of constant play and handles the wear well. The hardwear is very solid and heavy. The bridge chrome is starting to pit just slightly. After seventeen years I cant complain The back has marks from many belt buckle rubs but has yet to scratch through the paint. strap buttons are extremely solid. no nead for a backup so far.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never needed support.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing 19 years. I would definitely hunt down the thief and cut his eyes out and try to find another.
