Black Strat,24 Fret Maple Neck and Fretboard,Black Dot Inlays,Humbucker/Single Coil Neck Pickup,3 way Selector Switch,Push/Pull Tone Knob(Coil Splitter),Low Pro Type Tremolo, with Locking Nut,(Pop in Bar),6 inline Yamaha Logo Tuners, with a Straight string pull.

Sound : 9
This Guitar does it all, from Metallica to Classic Rock to Country,Very versatile Guitar for just about any style,I use a Peavey 6505 Head with Carvin Vintage British Speaker Cabs,I also use a Dano Cool Cat,with a Boss Flanger, and a Boss Delay,It has a very full sound played either dirty or clean, pretty amazing considering the amount of guitars I,ve Owned and played,(Pretty much Blows em all away),I like it so much,I have 4 of these and probably wont part with any of them, well maybe for the right price!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
All these models I own are very High quality,I did,nt have to adjust much, except redoing the setup on the ones I got from previous owners,I did however Replace the Tremolos on 2 of them to a Double Locking Floyd Rose,(Easy Replacement),the stock one,s are very good, but with the double locking Floyd,it stays in tune Forever under Heavy use,and it seems to increase the sustain and Tone to a different level,I also had a little noise from the electronics when playing High Gain settings, but after shielding the electronics and pickup cavities with copper Tape,it cutdown the noise immensely.

Reliability/Durability : 9
very reliable and very durable, very well made instruments, built for a lifetime of use, some of the other manufacturers should be taking notes from these models.

Customer Support : 9
very informative web site,no problems with serial numbers etc..very good customer service and attitude.Parts readily available etc...

Overall Rating : 9
I,ve been playing and working on guitars for 20 years, and have worked for a major Guitar Manufacturer in the 80,s,Ive played and owned every strat just about made, these are the best(IMHO),I continue to look for these, but they are becoming more rare as time goes on,and to find them in good shape is even harder,3 of the 4 I have are very close to mint,if I gig I take the abused one I picked up for 99.00,these guitars are totally undervalued, these should be fetching double what they originally sold for,as they put to shame the other manufacturers so called quality models.

A strat body style and neck, comfortable to hold, 24 frets and a lock down nut with a weird bridge set up that didn't need string cutters when you needed to change strings...big plus.
Pick up config...H/S at the bridge and S at the neck.
Maple neck...lovely feel all the way to fret 24.
Let's put it this way, it's features and configurations are quite different to anything else and I couldn't find fault when I tried it at the shop...my usual guitars were Fender strats, Gibson Les Pauls and Ibanez Prestige series.

Sound : 10
OK. This guitar has a voodoo quality. I play professionally in many styles (mainly Rock/Metal/Blues and Jazz with some Country) and I found that, over time, I was taking this machine to the sessions more and more and favouring it over the guitars I have mentioned above including a lovely Charvell I had picked up. Laziness factor!!!...when you can take one guitar why take two or three?
Sound was great, to a point, but capable of handling more styles than any other single guitar.
Because I loved the neck and feel of this machine I change the stock pickups for 2 Dimarzios, Super Distortion S in neck and Tone Zone in brigde. Now it's my number one guitar. It's on stage with the top "brand names" yet I wouldn't swap it for any my colleagues' guitars.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Excelent finish, No flaws that I know of... I like the design, and yamaha is really good at this category! Bad idea to discontinue this model.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Man can this guitar take a beating!Droped, kicked, trown, and many many
bumps. No problems with the neck warping. The strap buttons are solid.I know this guitar will last me a while and I'll never sell it.Would replace if possible(nobody has heard of my guitar before).I will stand
as a main guitar on stage.

Yamaha Superstrat with S/H Mic Configuration, Carved doble cut to easy access to upper frets. Contour Body. Yamaha Floyd Rose bridge style. 24 frets Maple neck and Alder body. 3-way selector.

Sound : 9
This metal machine fits perfectly my Heavy metal and progresive rock playing, nice for blues and rock too. So versatile as it is Yamaha high quality guitars. My setup is basically a Marshall JCM 900 and many pedals, as Boss Super Chorus, big Muff, MXR Phase 100, Roland Delay Rack (Don't Remember model). I like so much this guitar, so its sound is bright and rich in armonics, good for heavy distortioned settings.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Factory excellent asembly, the Floyd rose bridge is so stable, as Ibanez Lo Pro Edge. Yamaha made it so good, it's so strange to find a Floyd like this, pretty cool cause don't need to cut the strings balls, nothing bad to say, noiseless pickup selector, black hardware, excellent finish.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I play live sure of the instruments I own, Yamaha RGZ is my firt or second guitar in gigs, I'm a professional musician, I own too an Ibanez Prestige RG, Yamaha is a little more versatile, I switch the another guitar when I need more sickness with effects. Black strap buttons are solid, nothing to say, it has a few dents because the years I own it. But is a Long Life Instrument.

Customer Support : 10
One time, I've lost the whammy bar, but they send me another instantly. Yamaha Support is Excellent.

Overall Rating : 10
I think it's all said. Excellent instrument, a real battlehorse of music, over the years is better sounding, excellent woods, stock pickups are balanced, Comfortable body, Perfect Flotant Bridge, A bad Yamaha's idea the discontinuing of the product. I thinks they quit the battle with Ibanez and other Metal Guitars Brands, but it is sure better than any guitar of this range of price. If you found one TELL ME!!

I bought this in 1992, brand new, for $AU250.00. (Rec ret price at the time was $AU729.00)I only bought it for the bargain value and the fact there was something good in the way it felt.
Let's put it this way, it's features and configurations are quite different to anything else and I couldn't find fault when I tried it at the shop...my usual guitars were Fender strats, Gibson Les Pauls and a casio PG380 at the time of purchase.

Sound : 10
Because I loved the neck and feel of this machine I threw in Seymour Duncan pickups and and replaced the 3 way switch with a 5 way switch and a re wiring.
Now it's my number one guitar. It's on stage with the top "brand names" yet I wouldn't swap it for any my colleagues' guitars.
Even without the modifications I would give it 8 or 9 in this category.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Factory set up was great in comparison with other factory setups.
It didn't take me long to set it up to my own specs. This is one of the great things about this machine...it is easy to work on. A screwdriver here and there and it becomes an angel.
Absolutely no flaws in regard to manufacture.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar is the toughest machine on the planet with the possible exception of an army tank. Before I realised it's full potential it was smashed/ crashed and dropped a few times. It bears the scars, proudly!
Now it wears a locking strap system.
Given that I have been using and ABUSING this instrument for 14 years I am amazed at the reliability of the hardware...

Customer Support : 10
14 years after purchase the string tension "retainer/tuner" bit on the bottom E string broke.
(This is the piece of metal just behind the saddle)...I rang Yamaha...explained the problem and they immediately sent the replacement part.
Given that this guitar is a "blip on their horizon" I find this most impressive.
The interraction was very professional and effective.
I'm amazed that they still service this guitar.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for over 30 years, 16 years professionally. Guitarwise I own a guitar shop worth of equipment and have access to whatever I desire. This little Yamaha guitar is an amazing instrument. Given that I have modified it, I have some some bias. As a platform and design I can't understand why Yamaha dropped it.
It's neck to body configuration is perfect. It's smooth.
What it might lack in electronics can be easily modified.
When I asked my guitar tech ,in 2006, "did the frets need replacing?...he said.."no just a shve"...this is after years of hammering every day...what can I say?
IF YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ONE >>>DO IT. If you you find one ...pass it on to me...palavik@optushome.com.au

Manufactured in 1990 in Taiwan
It could have lots of other usefull feauters, lets say that in this category Yamaha could have done a greater effort.

Sound : 9
EXCELEnt SOUND... It makes an amateur sound like a pro! I play hard rock and its great!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
No flaws that I know of... I like the design, and yamaha is really good at this category!

Reliability/Durability : 10
8 years since I own this guitar, 10 since I play. It still functions as the first day it came into my hands. I must add that I play in a band and once a month we make a concert so the guitar is really misstreated in that sense so I must say it is a ROCK SOLID guitar!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had the need.

Overall Rating : 10
I been playing for 10 years now. I have a marshal amplifier which takes the best out of the guitar. I truely feel lucky to have this yamaha given to me, as my third electric guitar I must say that it is the best of them all. If you want a good sound, excelent durability and fair price, search for this model.

Features : 8
* Yamaha web says it was manufactured on July 19, 1990 in Taiwan
* 24 frets, somewhat longer neck requires higher string tension but it's worth.
* Volume / Tone knobs. Tone knob is also functioning like a push-button that converts the bridge humbucker into a single-coil
* S on the neck, S/H on the bridge
* Passive electronics
* Bought it with a flight case

Sound : 8
* OK for blues and 70's Rock
* Zoom 505-II sounds pretty with it
* Got a feeling that the guitar picks the high E-String stronger than the B-string but it may not be true (Just a perception!)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
* Needed slight adjustment (Done it by myself)

Reliability/Durability : 10
* No problems at all. Been using it since 1992 (Mostly live)

Customer Support : No Opinion
* No international warranty, I guess. But never needed any support at all.

Overall Rating : 8

Recived as a gift when I first began playing guitar. All I can say is what a gift it was. Down right awesome I never had one complaint about it period. Was purchased from a pawn shop so all it came w/ was strings pretty much but that was more than enough for this jewel.

Sound : 10
Drooooool. What can I say it fit me through all of my musical phases. I started off in metal and ended up in country/southern rock. Also played a bit of blues through it by far an all in one guitar

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Played perfectly from the first time I ever played it. I never changed a thing on the guitar. I can't really think of a negative w/ this one..

Reliability/Durability : 10
This was my #1. Was used in both the studio and live performances and held up very well. Although this may have been helped by the SKB case but other than that she was a beauty.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Null and Void..

Overall Rating : 10
Overall this is a must.. absolute must have guitar. The only thing I would like to have different with this guitar is to have it back in my hands.. like a fool I sold it when I young and stupid. For those of you looking around for a great begging to end guitar this is it I highly recommend it.. and if you can find it Canary Yellow clinch on to it as if there's no tomorrow from what i understand it's the rarest color and is also the color of the one i owned.. :(.. till next time.

Made about 1989/91 in Taiwan.
Maple neck,24 frets, locking tremolo(floyd rose type)really kick ass never gets out of tune, locking nut, black finish, really nice frets, single coil in the neck position and humbucker in the brige(high output),alder body,Strat style body, die cast tuners that never give me problems, and a tone and volume knob.I bought it for 120,later found out it originaly sold for 495.Also it has single coil tap switch.

Sound : 9
Sounds great with distortion, punk, blues, jazz, and any thing electric.
It had a buzzing problem but a truss rod adjustment fix that right up.
Not noisy.Has a nice tone that suprises people when I tell them how much I paid for it(considering that I was about to buy a Squier Strat). No problems with this category.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
A minor truss rod adjustment was nessesary to make the action alittle bit higher. The pickups were problem free but I did highten them up to my likeing. No problems when I got it used but who knows if it was repaired.

Did tell me something about the guitar when I called.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing for 1.5 years and I could not be happier to start with such a good beginner for the price.I would replace it or get something
like it.I used for my punk band and it takes every day abuse.Wish it had a single coil in the middle.I would compare it to a Fender Fat Strat. If you have one I think you're lucky.I don't know why Yamaha
discontinued it.
