My 1954 Yamaki is beautiful! The neck is thin and the body is spruce with a cherrywood top. The sound is deep and full. I did have a pickup put in it and regret not putting in a master control but when I play out I plug into the sound board, which allows for the rich sound that the guitar resonates. I also find that if I use Martin light guage strings, they compliment the sound from the guitar. I am contemplating on having a guitar built and hopefully to the specs of the Yamaki. If they were manufactured again, I definitely would buy another.

Solid cedar top, laminate rosewood back and sides, Indian (east or not - don't know). Non - Yamaki or Gotoh or Grover tuners, means a slightly less than top model. Rose wood bridge

Chuncky neck, C shape and very unlike other Yamakis I have played and owned. Got rid of it becasue of the chunky neck

As the laminate back and sides tend to live longer and adapt to climate changes, it is rare to find them cracked or give way, the top on this one is immaculate, and if will be tended to carefully, will last foever as it has seen over thirty years and still has NO belly.

Yamaki collector so I know them quite intimately. Apart from the laminate back and sides like all Yamakis I've seen except for one Solid back and sides I own, most are very bright sounding due to cedar top. If the bridge isn't buckling they tend to stay in tune like a good guitar, The necks on most are fabulous shape..like a Martin with a different satin like finish. This model is chunky and the tuners are lower end, but still quite respectable.

This guitar has Indian Rosewood back and sides , with a solid ceder top,and the Ivory work in this guitar is to die for, especially the Indian pattern strip down the center of the back.
It has a three piece neck , and am not sure of the fretboard woods.

The sound in this guitar really travels , I have to lighten up on the strum when I sing , becuase this baby is louder than me without amplification. What can I say , I would have to fork out between Two to Three thousand dollars to find another guitar to match the sound of this Yamaki. I don't know how this guitar sounded when it was new , but the sound is deep ( Like it had a built in sub woofer)and as rich as old wood can be

I think this guitar was made for someone , as the neck appears to be wider than all the steel sting guitars that I have ever owned,or currently own. But as I am a big fellow with big thick fingers , this feature suits me just fine

I have owned this guitar since 1982 , and have played it every day since , and the finish has stood all the bullying I have given it.
This is my choice of my three guitars to take to an all-nighter.

I can't beleive that I got this guitar for $75.00. I own a older handmade BC Rich acoustic ,and a newer handmade Seagull Artistry guitar( Both wonderfull guitars ) But if I had to give up two of the three guitars today , you would see me playing the Yamaki tommorow!!
If you ever have the good fortune to be able to find and buy one of these older Yamaki guitars , and you want the quality and sound of a Martin or Gibson , then do youself a favour and buy it!!
