2003 Standard 20 fret neck with med/jumbo, non locking tuners.

Sound : 10
Sound/Playability is where this guitar really outshines them all, in my opinion it totally smokes all epiphones, ibanez, etc..., it has a very rich warm sound, something the lower priced guitars do not have.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Action is the lowest I have ever played on an accoustic, with no fret buzz at all anywhere on the neck, even strumming fast and hard. No Flaws at all on mine, everything was great

Reliability/Durability : 10
You could without a doubt gig with this with no problems, I have had this guitar for 2 years it is in the same condition as it was when received, and it has had alot of playing time. Tuners are great for no name no problems. I understand the newer Zager's have grovers on them, you can't go wrong there.

Customer Support : 10
You don't get any better customer support, he offers a 100% money back warranty, you don't get any better than that. They have fast shipping, extremely friendly, answer all e-mails usually the same day, but better than that you can chat with them on line or call.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 10 yrs. I have played alot of guitars this one is the best value period, unless you have a few thousand laying around for a high end model, absolutely the best for any beginner or pro.

The Gritz Guitar Review
?The Zager E-Z Play ?String Science? System.?
Michael ?RedTail Wolf? Nystrom

Hi gang! Let me start this one off by saying that this review will not be so much about the particular guitar we are giving away but what has been done to modify it. We won?t be going through the normal steps of a guitar review like we usually do here. What I will attempt to do is to explain the Zager EZ-Play String Science System. The modifications used in this system make this guitar the easiest playing guitar I have ever played.

I wish all of you the best of luck as you enter to win this Washburn D-10QSB flat top dreadnought acoustic guitar. This is a nice guitar. It is a Washburn with a solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides, sealed tuners, fully bound body and neck, with a beautiful quilt top with a nice sunburst finish. The Washburn D-10 is the top selling acoustic guitar in the world today, and has just been voted a best buy, by a leading ?guitar? magazine. The Washburn D-10QSB comes with a hard case. This guitar has been modified by Denny Zager with this new system, is hand signed by him, and has a retail value of just under $500.00. As I mentioned this review is not really about the guitar so much but what the Zager Guitar system has done to the guitar to make it what it has become. We at GRITZ want to thank Zager Guitars for giving me the chance to test this new system, and for giving you our readers a chance to win this amazing instrument.

First let?s talk a bit about the man behind this new design, Mr. Denny Zager. Denny Zager is part of the legendary recording duo "Zager & Evans" who wrote "In The Year 2525," the number #1 World-Wide smash hit of 1969 and the biggest one-hit wonder of any artist at any time in recording history. You may have seen Denny featured in magazines such as Time, Newsweek, and The New Yorker. Denny has been asked to make numerous television appearances including The Tonight Show, and he was also asked to perform at the original Woodstock. For more on Denny Zager?s biography see this page, http://www.zagerguitar.com/ez-dz.htm.

Now let?s talk about the Zager E-Z Play ?String Science? modification process. Without getting too technical and into the geometry of what happens let?s just say that Denny Zager takes an existing guitar and does a couple of really neat things to it. The ease of playing comes from two distinct processes that Mr. Zager applies. The first process is to lower the strings to a height that seems impossible to accomplish without creating tons of fret buzz. He has figured out how to lower the strings, or the action, on an acoustic guitar so low that you have trouble slipping a piece of computer paper under the strings! This makes the guitar so easy to fret you feel like you aren?t applying any pressure at all. Imagine if you had had a guitar like this when you started playing! Can you imagine giving a guitar like this to a new student just learning to play? The confidence level of the new player would shoot through the roof!

The second thing Mr. Zager does is to widen the distance between the strings. The distance between each string on a Zager guitar is wider than on any guitar you have ever seen or played. This widening of that space is crucial to the ease of playing these guitars. If you play, you know that sometimes your big old fingers get in the way when making a chord and sometimes you hear the dreaded thud of a string that has been muted by an adjacent finger that is too big to fit in the narrow space between the strings. That spacing coupled with the normal strings on a student guitar being too high and feeling like steel cables is especially frustrating to beginners. By changing these two fundamentals, Zager?s system will allow students the time to stick with that learning process and will give them a better shot of reaching some basic goals without giving up. The Zager E-Z play ?String Science? system takes all of the early worry and

Features : 10
This guitar was made in 2003 adn is a full sized dreadnaught.
It has a solid spruce top. The back and sides are mahogany. The bridge and fretboard are rosewood. It has scalloped X bracing. It sports a hand carved nut and saddle and filed frets for a very low, easy play action. It has chrome sealed tuning gears. It has a natural gloss finish.

Sound : 9
I play mostly fingerstyle. It has a full, rich sound with a nice deep base sound which balances a bright high end. Brand new out of the box it sounds better than my Martin Sigma and my friends Alvarez RD-8 but not quite as good as my 25 yr old DY-55 Alvarez Yairi.

I give it a nine for sound now but my guess is that it will be a 10 with a little age.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action on this guitar is superb. Denny Zager hand carves the nut and saddle and files the frets to give a super low action. This greatly enhances ones ability to play bar chords and avoid string buzzing. It has a thin neck which facilites the use of the thumb. I've played Taylors, Martins, and Yairis and this will stand up to any of them. What one gets is a customized guitar right out of the box.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've had this guitar for almost a year and play it nearly every day.
It is a work horse.

Customer Support : 10
This guitar has a life time warranty. The Zager's are readily available both for guitar questions and online internet guitar lessons. They are truly full service and stand behind their product.

Overall Rating : 10
I have only been playing for about two years but am hooked on playing and on this guitar. A friend wanted to buy a new guitar- I told him to go to a guitar store and try out all of the top of the line offerings and then come and play my Zager. He did and ordered a Zager which he loves. This guitar is priced like an entry level guitar (on sale now on the internet for $295) and yet it plays and sounds like guitars that cost well over five times more. I don't know how the Zagers manage to do it.

Made last year in Taiwan. As near as I can tell, lamimate top, back and sides. An abalone inlay around the sound hole. Nice mahogany neck. Great sealed tuners. What else? Oh, it's a dread. It is set up with the Zager easy play system that I have grown quite fond of. Denny sets the guitars up with super close, fast action with slightly wider string separation on the fret board. Easy to play and bar chord.

Sound : 9
The guitar has a super sound. Not as strong as my Yamaha FG 180. But when in tune, it has the most wonderful harmonics--like little bells ringing in tune. I install K&K pure sound systems in all of my acoustics and this one sounds great when amplified. I run through a Mackie CFX into Mackie SRM450 powered speakers and it is a truly wonderful combination. I would rate higher but I know the sound of my 180.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Very nice set up. No buzz no rattle. Everything clean and tight. Finish uniform and without flaw.

Reliability/Durability : 9
The guitar seems to be very well built. It is manufactured by the same company that makes SIGMA. Denny selects the guitars and sets them up himself or at least he trys out each one and it must pass his inspection. I have had it about a year and am resting the Yamaha so the Zager gets played a lot and I detect no signs of any distress.

Customer Support : 10
Denny Zager provides excellent one on one support and can be reached personnally if any problems should arise.

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing for over 30 years and have tried many different accoustics. I have the 180, a very nice CONN 12 string, a USA Strat, a super Greco Les Paul Custom (lawsuit) and a G&L ASAT. I really like this guitar and would recommend it to the beginner (its easy to play and sounds great) or to a more experienced guitarist for the same reasons.
