Zager guitars are built to Denny Zagers specifications and then custom modified by Denny himself. The ZAD 50OM has a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides and a rosewood fretboard and bridge. It has a beautiful gloss finish and trim that would be more than acceptable on far more expensive guitars. The ZAD 50 OM is the orchestra size model which is approximately 15% smaller with a narrower waist. It has a custom set up that is in my opinion second to none. A very low action for an acoustic that is so much easier on the fingers. I purchased this guitar for my daughter who is 12 and a new player. She currently is taking lessons and was having a lot of trouble with her chords on the fretboard with finger pain to the point of putting off her 30 minute practice sessions every day. The very first day the Zad 50OM arrived she practiced for over 2 hours and was thrilled. For the first time she was able to play some difficult chords and did so without complaining of any finger fatigue. The custom thin neck with Denny's "string science" low set up is is a godsend for new players as well as older ones like myself with some nerve problems in my hands. When we received the guitar Zager also included a stand, Zager Guitar tee-shirt, picks and various signed photos of Zager and Evans from their "2525 hit song era".
Sound
:

The sound is vibrant and projects very well. The fact that this is a OM size model did not seem to affect the volume at all as compared to full size guitars. It has a very rich full sound both when fingerpicking and strumming. We looked at many different guitars and the sound quality of the Zager is far superior to any in this price range and as good as many priced much higher. My brother-in-law is in a band and talks music/guitar night and day was extremely impressed with the sound and could not believe it was coming from a guitar that only cost $495. I had to show him the Zager website to prove it to him.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

As I stated above the action and set-up is what really makes an already excellent guitar stand out. The custom work done by Denny is outstanding. His process of lowering the stings closer to the fret board along with a slightly wider stance and a thinner neck make this the easiest guitar to play that I have ever tried. My brother-in-law has 14 guitars with 7 having special set-up work done and the Zager is in my opinion better than any of them. The Zager guitar probably saved my daughter from giving up on her guitar lessons and renewed her excitement for playing, something that I will be forever grateful to Denny Zager for.

Of all the positive things I can say about the Zager Guitar, I cannot begin to express how helpful and friendly the company is. I sent many e-mails asking questions and advice on the correct guitar for my daughter. Dennis Zager Jr. recommended the OM size based on my details. But I originally ordered the ZAD 15 3/4 size guitar on my daughter's guitar teachers opinion. When we received it the size seemed just a bit to small for her. An e-mail to Denny Jr. explaining the situation was answered within 15 minutes and he said he would send out the Zad 50OM model immediately. Zager Guitar paid the shipping of the new guitar as well as the return shipping of the smaller one. I told them this was entirely my fault and tried to have them charge the shipping to me but they said they would take care of it. Over and above the friendly and professional service is the fact that they make you feel like your talking to an old friend. I'm sure that Zager Guitar is not only an excellent company but the Zager's are a wonderful family. In my job I deal with numerous people and company's on a daily basis and finding this type of service is very rare.

Overall this company and family is easily rated a 10. The quality, service, value and features are all outstanding. I've seen and played many excellent guitars over the years and the Zager 50 is right up their with them at a fraction of the cost. I'm not sure how Denny does it, I guess being a small family owned company with low overhead keeps the price down. Although in my opinion the Zager guitars are worth far more than they cost. I was so impressed with the Zad-50OM guitar for my daughter that I am trying to purchase a ZAD-80 OM CE for myself. I recommend anyone looking for a new guitar to check out the Zager lineup, you will not be disapointed.

Slightly smaller guitar. Similar to folk. Approximately same size as a classical but with a rounded back to increase depth. Grover tuners what ever that means. Slightly wider strings. Checked at guitar store with a guage. Seagull has same spacing.

I am beginning. I have been playing the Zager for three months and only perfected three songs so far. I am learning notes so it is taking awhile
Nearness to you
Greensleaves
House of rizing sun
Sound is Crisp and resonates
What I have learned to be sustain is what this guitar has in spades.
A note splashes, rebounds, repeats and holds forever.
Went back to a guitar store. Found that 500 dollar MArtin with plywood neck and plywood sides sounds as good or better but looks like "S". The seagull looks and sounds great but has an ugly pointy neck and I'm not sure is as easy to play. All the other $500 guitars I tried sounded tinny and brassy and pathetic by comparison,.

If my guitar was stolen I would consider the Seagull or martin with the plywood neck.
My guess is that I would buy two guitars the MArgin and the Zager.
What is a thousand dollars among friends.
I'd keep the Zager just to watch the incredible help videos on guitar strings and maintenance and humidity, The zagers are the ultimate guitar nerds and I am an engineer.

This is an OM-size guitar with solid spruce top, mahogany back, sides and neck, rosewood bridge and fretboard, inlaid abalone rosette, and Grover tuners. What makes this guitar special (other than the beautiful sound) are the Zager "EZ-Play String Science" modifications, including hand-sculpted nut and saddle, hand-filed frets, custom-scalloped braces, and slightly wider spacing between the strings. It is fitted with Martin extra light strings, and Zager includes an extra set of strings, along with a Zager Guitar t-shirt and a surprise free gift, which in my case was a folding guitar stand.
Sound
:
10
The OM body is about 15% smaller than a full-size dreadnought, which should make it not quite as loud, but I haven't noticed much difference volume-wise from the Yamaha FG730S dreadnought I was playing before I sprung for the Zager. The sound quality is amazing. It is warm, rich, and bright. The sound has a lovely resonance and is surprisingly big for a guitar this size. Even the treble notes are round and mellow, with none of the tinniness one often hears with lesser guitars.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

The guitar has a very nice-looking high gloss finish. The solid spruce top is pretty, with a subdued even grain and no run-out or other irregularities. The mahogany back and sides have a dark grain that contrasts nicely with the light-colored top. The only exception to an otherwise flawless finish was a couple of small dark spots on the 16th fret, which I was able to polish away after removing the strings. Denny Zager sets these guitars up by hand using his "String Science" modifications, so the action is very low and easy on the fingers, with no buzzing. The wider string spacing takes a little getting used to, but makes it easier to play the neck without muting or buzzing neighboring strings. The neck is very slim front to back, so it's easy to get a hand around. The "EZ-Play" action is what led me to purchase this guitar, and I am very happy with it.

Zager Guitars offers a money-back guarantee (including shipping both ways) and a lifetime warranty. Dennis Zager, Jr, handles customer service and responds to emails almost immediately, seven days a week. (I understand he also answers the telephone, although I have not called.) I have no doubt Zager would have taken the guitar back and polished that spotty fret if I had asked, but I did not want to part with the guitar and preferred to do it myself. When I mentioned it to Dennis Zager, he sent an extra set of strings to replace the ones I removed and gave me free online guitar lesson time to compensate for my time and trouble.

I am a middle-aged beginner, and I really appreciate the custom set-up and modifications that make the guitar much easier to play and easier on the fingers than most guitars. The gorgeous sound is a bonus and makes it easier to practice because the guitar sounds so sweet. I wanted a bit smaller guitar that is easier to hold and get my arm around, and the OM size feels perfect. I love my guitar and would buy another one in a flash if anything happened to this one.

I really like the OM size. I am small framed with small hands and even though I have been playing for over 25 years, I have not been able to afford a guitar that would fit me as well nor have the sound quality that this model does. The EZ-Play Modification to the guitar has made playing a joy again without the pain or the buzz.
Although the sound should be 15% lower than a full-size guitar, I really can't tell the difference in my living room. For a brand new guitar the sounds (lows and highs) are perfect and I know that the guitar???s sound will better with age.
I have always wanted to be able to play finger style guitar and the Zager ZAD-50 OM is just perfect for me. I couldn't be happier.

I thoroughly inspected the guitar when I received it and there were no flaws to be found. The guitar received a Certificate of Authenticity and the instrument was thoroughly cleaned, hand waxed, and buffed. I have never had that type of customer service from any guitar store or music shop in my life.
It took 5 days to receive the guitar via UPS, when it arrived it was in tune. The Zager ZAD-50 is truly a joy to play.
I was never made aware or told by any guitar salesperson, even when I looked at $2,000 guitars that I could or even should have a guitar modified to fit my particular needs and playing style by adjusting the nut and saddle heights or that the fret can be files to reduce "string bite". I always thought the more you pay the better the guitar will play.
My Zager proved that wrong. It sounds and plays like a $2,000 guitar at a quarter of the cost.

As the Zager Guitar web site states: Zager guitar company offers a 100% money back guarantee that includes all shipping, handling and insurance charges both ways...No restocking fees. Obviously they must have a quality product to offer this kind of warranty and service. If not they wouldn't be in business for 37 years. So obviously they are doing something right.
Every contact I have had, either by telephone or email has been friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. This type of customer service is a rarity this day and age. What more can a consumer ask for.

First let me finish by saying I am not a professional musciian, do not get paid by Zager Guitar, and have no affiliation to their company. I am just a hobbiest who loves to play the guitar for my perosnal enjoyment.
For the past 25 years I have purchased no less than 10 guitars. I have purchased acoustic, classical, and electric guitars with prices ranging from $250.00 to $1,500.00. Each acoustic without fail would end up in the back of my closet and later sold for a loss. I have never been able to find an acoustic guitar that just plain didn't hurt my fingers and buzz on some chords.
I wasn't able to play for long period of times without finger cramping and eventual frustration. Playing the acoustic guitar was not fun for me, yet that was the guitar I always wanted to play. With my Zager guitar I find myself looking forward to playing and the time flies without the painful fingers and buzzing.
I would certainly recommend this guitar for any level of player and especially for a beginner (wish I started with one). I truly believe that the EZ-Play modification is a science and not a marketing gimmick.

I fingerpick blues and folk. It's very good for this. The sound is crisp and clear in the mids and highs, okay in the lows, as are pretty much any OM size guitar. I was surprised how good the sound is for a guitar at this price.

The finish is striking and the wood is apparently of high quality. The gloss is uniform and really beautiful. The sides and back are a honey-colored mahogany finish. The bridge is beautiful rosewood and finished nicely too. The action is really where Zager has done something special. It is remarkably low without any buzz. I also have a Martin OM 18V which I absolutely love to play -- I bought the Zager as an extra guitar to have at work or to travel with -- but I find the Zager even easier to play than the Martin. I can play barre chords without touching the neck with my thumb! Anyone who is learning would find this guitar very easy to use.

I've been playing off and on for 30 years. I have a Martin OM 18V and have owned a Taylor 414, a Gibson SJ, and a Martin SWOMGT, and a Harmony Sovereign dreadnaught. The Zager sounds kinda like the Taylor and is easier to play than all of them. For the price, I think the Zager is the best deal of all of them too. I'm extremely pleased with it. From what I've read, a lot of people suspect that the Zagers are not for real. I never heard of them before a month ago, but I believe they are for real. The guitar speaks for itself.
