Ease of Use : 9
very easy to use if your familiar with akai. using the lastest os. very easy to edit sounds. manual is as good as it gets.

Features : 9
polyphony is 32. the built in effects are akai style, but i like them. you can upgrade the memory, but i already did that. the midi on it is the best that can be put into a sampler...it's akai, so you know what to expect. no sequencer, but thats what mpcs are for. the cd3000i has an scsi input, and midi, and diskdrive, and cdrom. this is not your conventional sampler. no inputs. crazy you say? no. it actually is an excellent feature, (you can upgrade and get a standard input though) because you can save cdrom parameters, all your samples don't need to be saved. you just put in a floppy, and load up tons of sample from the parameters saved on disk. this may sound complicated, but it is one of the simplest ways i have ever made music, and i like it. you can also do midi dumps to load sounds or connect directly to the scsi. this is a very versatile sampler. and the filters are amazing.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 9
the sounds are real good, realistic if you want, or you can bust out the effects for crazy sounds. i would probably say that it would work good with any kind of music. it has all kinds of settings for velocity and stuff, like the way a sample loops or loop points or whatever.. this thing sounds awsome.

Reliability : 10
i think mine was dropped, has a bent rack ear, but does not affect functionality. this thing is solid. you can probably beat the hell out of it and it would still work.

Customer Support : No Opinion
i dunno

Overall Rating : No Opinion
i would buy it again, or an s1000 or 2000, but most likely a 3000 series sampler, they got really nice features, and you can get em for a reasonable price (between 4-5 hundred) but would never pay more. although I've seen them going for around 7 hundred which is rediculus. i would have to say that this is a great sampler for sample cds. get some nordleads and moog sample cds, and you are ready to tear it up.
