The story of this keyboard started out on adamp morning as my friend found it in the binyard. Even with the dc adaptor this chunky keyboard looked like it would never work. Then another sound engineered trained friend put some work and magic to it and hey presto! What a marvelous toy. I like the gothy cathedral and strings best. Yes I will probably gig with this, impro melodies over hard electro beats.

Ease of Use : 9
pretty basic,so nothing to be confused about working around it.The keyboard is pretty much self explanatory.

Features : 6
polyphony gets restricted to 4 voices when using certain sounds(like 09.0).No touch response.Nice synth-like patch editor.Love the delay esp.with the percussionI bank.Basic sequencer, fills up in no time when u use the pitch bend wheel.Basic Midi setup.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 6
Nice keyboard sounds(piano, organ etc),leads and drums, but some of them have sound differenties between the two keyboard halfs.Rather outdated rhythm section, though interesting ethnic beats.

Reliability : 9
Some sounds could work alonein a gig,but i would use it mainly as a background instrument,or use it as second midi kbrd for sequencing.
As far as toughness goes, its simply UNBREAKABLE!Hit the keys hard, play with the pitch bend, torture it at will.

Customer Support : 5
I once asked the main Casio distributor here in Athens(Greece) for a soft carrying case and they looked at me like they saw an alien.I found hapiness with a Yamaha one,so-no problem!Never needed anything else, this keyboard is indestructible

Overall Rating : 7
Pretty nice for a beginner musician,or for a beginner in the midi-sequencing business. The patches could be improved, even if it meant less of them.Amazes me how tough it is.I bought it ,used, 7 years ago, dragged it all over Greece, and NEVER had the slightest problem.

Not to bad. I'd say it's pretty self explanitory without the manual but you should be perpared for some exploring. The number pads are kinda easy to use but you have to get used to the way they work.

Features : 7
No sequencer, no expansion, it does have one memory space but the song is only saved until the unit is unplugged. It is sorta good for gigs. I only take it on the road sometimes. But personally I have better studio boards. It does have MIDI in, out, and thru so that's kinda helpful. And it also has an assignable jack, headphone jack, and a sustain pedal jack. Those all come in handy. Overall it's not something I'd use for a final album or anything. It's not very fitting for the studio but it is nice. I suppose it would work well
for someone with gigs at a bar or something.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 8
It does have a fare amount of effects. Nice sound effets. I like this certain one called insect. I use that in my recordings sometimes.
No touch sensitivity. Has a wide range of rhythms, but none are editable. You can't really change any of the tones, and there's only a cheap set of layered tones and split tones. It does have a nice pitch bend wheel. It works OK. No aftertouch. Has SOME reverb but not the best. All in all it's an OK board. But not really a pro synth or anything.

Reliability : 8
It's really a good board. I only use it as a back up though. It's not really the best for performing. It is pretty depenable. Not that you can thrash it around or anything. But treat it nice and it'll probably last a long time.

Never needed it. Hasn't broken yet.

Overall Rating : 7
If it was stolen I'd probably replace it with a WK-1600 or something.
Since that's what I'm working towards these days. All in all it's a beefed up board for a student a just good for a keyboardist who just likes messing around. I didn't really like it that much but who knows
someone else might think it's the greatest on earth!

I've owned more "PRO" keyboards than I can say. I even use to joke about Casio equipment. I bought this keyboard on markdown some years ago and can honestly say it's my all-time favorite. Aside from an incredible number of highly-usable variations of base waveforms, it also has the most realistic harpsichord I've ever played on any keyboard (even used the sound in some professional recordings). Guess I just like its uniqueness. I play it in a professional crossover-rock band along-side a Voce V5/145 Leslie combo. I just don't miss those other expensive toys I used to own...

Reliability : 10
no problems after 8 years...

had no need for it...

actually, might by a second (used) for backup
