C'mon. Everything is logically organized and well marked. You have the LFO sections, OSC sections, Filter, and Amp sections. Typical subtractive synth architecture. Some of the more advanced functions (LFO/VCA sync) are hard to access.

Features : 6
I forget what the polyphony is on this beast (I got it in '96), but 6 voices may be a bit limiting, especially if you're using this multitimbrally. As a non-musician, multi-tracker, this doesn't really apply to me.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 9
I fell in love the first time I heard the Nord. Sure the JP-8000 had more features and that characteristic (and ubiquitous) Roland sound, but I was looking for something different, something with its own "soul". The FM and OSC sync effects are worth the price of admission alone. I've never heard FM quite like it. Yeah, the Prophet emulations are relatively weak, but this Sweedish VA is capable of some downright ARPy warmpth (especially with the 12db filter).

Reliability : 10
Had it for about 7 yrs now. That's pretty good.

Customer Support : No Opinion
N/A - never had a problem.

This is my favorite synth. Well, maybe 1a--my Juno 106 is unreplacable. The Nord is a totally different animal though. It's a creative sound tool; the Juno is a straight-ahead power-synth. Yes, I'd consider getting another one. In fact, I'm looking to get rid of my MS-2000r so that I can buy one of them new-fangled Nord 2x's.

*Software 2.6
*Expanded to 12 voices
*Presets pretty damn good (no one's are perfect ; ) )
*No patch editor that I can find, so you're stuck with the knobs. Knobs aren't too bad, but it would be nice to see the values on the display or something.
*The manual is one of the best I've ever seen.

I couldn't care less about polyphony, as I'm not a real keyboard player. It could use some effects, at least reverb and delay. Other than that, I'm happy.

This thing rocks my ass! I use it for basses and SFX/noise.

Reliability : 10
Well, it's the original Nord Rack and is prolly coming on 8 or 10 years old (I have no idea exactly) and the one I got is pristine, scratchless, and sounds amazing. So, I'm pretty confident in the red beast.

Never had to call.

If it were stolen I would probably cry, bitch about it for weeks, buy a Nord 2 and get on with my life. I think it sounds great, however, I wish I had known before I started bidding on it that it only has L & R outs (the Nord 2 has 4 outs). It's a godsend....all I need to do now is try and faithfully recreate my softsynths.
