Pretty easy to use. Very logically laid out. Patches are only as good as you make them. Editing patches is easy. Biggest problem and biggest asset are the same: no patch memory. I tried taking pictures of patches... it's best to sample a good patch is you want to recall it. I don't remember reading the manual.

Monophonic. 3 osc, 2mixers, dual filter(HP,LP,BP), dual envelope. Can use midi or CV to conrol it. Big strenth is routing just about anything to anywhere. Hardwired modulation and external patching. Ring mod and OSC sync sound great and are really useful.

Very expressive. Not useful for all types of music. Great for leads, bass, synth perc, and fx.

Mine has been great. Had to loan it to a friend for a big gig. He broke one of the OSC toggle switches on his. Taking forever to get the part in.

Getting parts from Overseas always takes time. They've been helpful. Just a little slow.

If it were lost I would buy it again. Nothing else sounds like this. Been playing all my life. I own a bunch of other gear. From old modular synths to the new soft synths. This one is more in line of the old modulars. I'd say it's somewhere inbetween the SE-1 and the Roland 100m.

I have version 1.3. Excellent update. The manual doesn't cover this version very well so it took me a while to figure out how to get any sound out of it. Apart from tat, it's never gien me a problem in using all of teh features.

Polyphony = 0. But that's enought to really appreciate the great sound of this beast. The uilt in effects are...maybe subtle is a good word. Lots of room to expand.

No zipper noise, no hiss, no hum, no distortion, just fantastic. it;s hard to make a bad sound with this synth.

It meets every expectation I had for it.

The customer support is so bad it might as well be nonexistant.

A valuable adidtion to any setup if you already have several other synths. Nothing else does quite what this does so it fits into any setup. I would replace it if stolen, that is if I only had one. But I own 2!

The S-1 has an absolutely beautiful layout. Every module is right where you want it to be.

Every possible parameter has a CV patch point and a knob or switch. For a modular synth under $3k it is packed with modules. It has midi built in and offers 4 channels of control voltage conversion. This is ideal for using midi CC# for filter sweeps, etc.

The S-1 is one of the best sounding synths I have ever owned. I has a tone and personality all of it's own. It has a System 700'ish quality about it - but even then, that is just for a rough compairitor. The built in overdrive is juicy and warm.

The S-1 I build like a WWII tank.

This is a synth every analog-lover should have in their rack. And for the price - it is miles over in quality from its competition.
