This little box can be a real pain.
Yes, it can install fine on a mac or wintel box - the first time.
Trouble is, if you have a crash, or upgrade etc.
The device setup often doesn't recognize the unit as an emagic midi device, and reinstalling it becomes a nightmare. Even if you know (in Windows) to install the usb driver first.
Very shabby.

Features : 4
It's not "AMT" capable, but there is much debate as to whether AMT actually imroves timing anyway.

The "patch" mode can be annoying if you're setting up anything other than vanilla record and playback midi systems.

Other than these things, it's fine.

F*CK !!! When you send Sysex message through it, it switches automatically to so called "patch" mode, which in simple English means you can't use it for Realtime and System messsages.
WHAT A SHIT EMAGIC?!?!?!?!?

I waited for month and a half to receive it. Now probably If I ask them Why they do not advertise the lack of Sysex and Realtime options, they would say ooo, but that's a FEATURE

My worst investment so far. Since I am working mainly with Sysex and Realtime messages, it is not worth a penny for what it claims to be.
I am so MAD at Emagic. Probably I will smash that f&!& ting with a hammer.
Seriously

Terrible.. My computer can't even install the drivers for mine.. I have a toshiba laptop, and it chokes on install.. Glitchy as hell..

I have mt4 rev.1

Features : 4
It works okay once I can get the system to recognize it. :(

BTW, IT DOES NOT HAVE AMT for better midi timing!!! DO NOT BE FOOLED!!!

ITS NOT WORTH THE 130$ I bought it for for such weak assed features.

I ONLY bought it for AMT.. Thats the only thing that made it worthwhile for that premium price for so few outs/ins..

Uses the same technology as the AMT8? What a lie..

Sketchy.. Stay away from it and just buy the amt8.. Emagic should take this fraudulent piece of hardware off of the market.

It couldn't be easier. I had it first on my Win98 system as there were no drivers for XP yet and it worked great. When the XP drivers were available (on their site), I just hooked it up on my new system and it detected the MT4 with no problem at all.

Features : 10
2 inputs that you can redirect to the 4 outputs any way you want and you can save the settings you just made. With the possibility to save 32 settings it's more than enough for everybody.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 10
No delay on my system.

Reliability : 10
It's light like a feather but It never broke (and who knows how many times I dropped it)

Customer Support : 10
When I had my Win98 I sent an email asking when the XP drivers would be available. I got the answer within a week and they told me they were making new drivers for XP. Couple months later the XP drivers were available. Great.

If it was stolen (?) I would definatly buy it again and I will buy new Emagic products as well as I've been very happy with their support. But... there's only one thing that could have been better and that's why I won't give it 10. The USB cable is way too short. About 3 feet I think. I don't know about the other units but a 6 feet or more cable would have been better in my case cause I can't always put the MT4 near my computer. Still a great product.

Price paid: Installing the drivers was simple. I had to hunt around on the CD's folders for a bit, but only a brief period. After that it's just plug in your MIDI cables and go. The main configuring required was on my keyboard (Yamaha S80), but my electronic composition teacher helped me out with that. If you know your equipment (I'm still new to electronic music), most of your work will be on your instrument. This little interface is great.

One of the main reasons that I was advised to get this instead of a MIDIman interface is because I'm already on Logic Audio Gold 4.8 (w/a Mac G4 466 Tower). The mt4 - actually, the whole Unitor family - can run MIDI info directly to Logic without using OMS, which speeds things up. If you want to avoid putting another layer of needless information between your sequencing software and your instrument/module, this is the way to go. It has 2 MIDI inputs and 4 MIDI outputs, which is perfect for a small-to-medium sized electronic studio. You can run a setup with 2 MIDI controllers (keyboards, etc.) and then output to several different sound modules. Emagic was really thinking on that one. It's not too expensive if you are looking to expand in the future (as I plan to do after college graduation).

Expressiveness/Sounds : 10
It's geat - very reliable. never had any pops, crackles, or anything else - no delays in MIDI data transfer. It does its job.

Reliability : 10
dependable. The LEDs are a great touch, because there have been several times when I couldn't tell if my keyboard was playing back from the Logic Audio software. The LEDs let me know that interface was working and the computer was sending info out, so it helped pinpoint the problem as the MIDI in channel of the S80. As far as reliability goes, i have been using Logic Audio coupled with the Audiowerk 8 card here at school, and everything with emagic's name on it has been totally dependable and user friendly.

never had the need to ask.

Overall Rating : 9
It works very well for me. it's dependable. The one little pain is that it's small, very light, and not really sturdy. the MIDI cables easily pull it off of my desk, and it wouldn't take but one misplaced foot to break a $140 investment. Overall, it makes my life easier, and I'm very grateful for it.

This is a midiman thing. Just plug it in, and you have 4 midi outs and 2 midi in.
Very easy to use.
You though have to install the driver. No win dows 2000 (NT5) support, but will be there very soon.

Features : 9
No features, just plugin and rock!
No worrys about timing delays, mt4 rocks really! :)
4 outs, and 2 midi ins. that's it.
6 led's for the signal;. and one to see whetehr usb works. And you can patch on it using some software, but I never use that. I just plug my cables in and have fun.

It's reacting is ok, although I get some timing delays, but that's my computer system. (PII300 MHz)

Website is very good! Once send an email and took 1 week, to reply. They said they were busy writing the driver for windows 2000.

Overall Rating : 10
It does what it has to do, without knobs or bullshit :) It's just good stuff, and is reconized in Cubase Logic and Cakewalk.
have fun with it. This midiinterface is what you need. Or buy the Unator8, which has 8 ins and outs.
