The presets sound great, it is not hard to edit patches, just read and follow the steps, the manual makes alot better sense than Yamaha, Alesis, Korg and Roland, granted there are things you have to figure out on your own, because no one can help you at Generalmusic, and no one at the stores know anything about it. But, I think it still makes alot more sense than the other big workstations.

The keyboard action is great in my opinion, I am a classicaly trained musician and play in a well known band for my genra. The built in effects sound great, and you can completely manipulate the sound to completly sound diffrent, and they are very easy to use. It deffinatly has expansion capabilities, you can go to any computer place and expand your sample memory. I did it, I can program any sound on my computer put it on floppy and load up very easy into my sampler. There are endless Midi capabilite. The on-board sequencer is awesome, 16tracks, and it is completely flexible, very easy to use. I don't know what people are talking about. The thing I love most about this Synth Workstation is how easy it is, every thing on your little screen walks you through.

Some instruments are very realistic, and the Equinox is one of them.
The Equinox, works well with, Dance, Industrial, Techno, EBM, Synthpop, Goth, New Age, and Classical. The onboard effects again are very good. It reacts to my playing, and there is no static its very clean. Velocity and aftertouch, are exactly how you do the settings for. If you want it on exactly when you touch it then its on.

I use it for shows all the time, I can diffinatly depend on it. I feel very comfortable using it for a gig without back up. I can actualy play only with it for a show if I wanted to and I have.

To be honest I do know more than the Customer Support, the phone number takes for ever to find, and no one at the music stores know more than the person that ownes it. When I was figuring it out, I got a hold of the sales rep, and he told me he couldn't help, and asked if I figured it out to call me and tell him how to do it. All in all if you have patients and don't give up you can figure it out and when you do it does pay off. By that time it is so easy. I have gotten an upgrade for my sammple memory, I went to a computer store, and got 8mg of sims chip. When you open it up its just like a computer, the guys at the computer store were in awe they had never seen anything like it. It was exactly like a computer inside, the guys didn't even have to call General Music. They just treated it like a computer.

If it were lost or stolen I would buy another one. It is worth more than what I paid. I have been playing the Equinox for 1year, and I know everything about it, any problems I know the answere, because I figured it out my self, and I use it everyday practicaly. I have a Zoom RT, and I had an Alesis syth, and that thing was german, it cant do nearly all the things this can. I needed something unlike my Alesis that had alot of tracks, sampler, memory. It completly helps me make music. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask and if I can help answere I will.

The software version I am using on this synth is May 99 OS.
Editing the sounds are not hard, its quite easy actually and with the large
display screen you can see what you are doing, but in my opinion
this Synth SUCKS!!!!!!! I have the 88 weigthed keys Pro X version, with
the SCSI drive and all the goodies on it and this is still a peace of crap.
I dont think a sound editor would do a difference, because this is made
from horse shit!! 2000 sounds and they all sound like farts. Learning to
work this synth was a real pain even with the manual, I have replace this
synth with a Roland XP-60 and I was rocking this synth the day I baught it.
I had three songs done in two days with Roland, and two months with the
Equi-crap I had nothing because the sequencer kept losing my stuff or locking
up on me! Then manual is the only good thing about this synth, I wish Roland
would make manuals like this because their manuaul's put me to sleep, but Roland
gear I am familar with so I only use their manual as a reference.

128 Polyphony is cool if the sequencer did not lock up on me every dam time
I try to compose on this poor excuse for a synth.
Effects are actually cool, but they can be overkill sometimes, but trying to
work the effects is a F**king headache!! Expansion capabilities are cool you can bring
on board samples load them and save them into the synth and use them in creations of new
sounds, but good does this do you if the sequencer on this is crap.
Don't but this synth it may seem like a poor mans Triton, but dont be fooled
by its fancy hardware like I was. The sequencer locks up alot on me and have
lost serval songs, I felt like blowing my brains out. You will get no where with this
synth if you buy it. Trust me... I have learned this from my horriable experince with it.

Are the instruments realistic on this peace of junk LOL!!!!
Please dont make me laugh.... over 1000 sounds and they all sound them
same. The Synth sounds on this is crap, some sounds are good, but overall
they sound horriable and alot of them sound the same. The Piano sounds on
this is a joke, what the hell where they thinking when they made this.
The piano sounds like a guitar while its strings are popping.. A big fat
guy at Wendys blowing farts sounds better the piano sounds...The strings
are also a joke on this synth along with the harpsichord. The on board effects
like I say its overy kill on this at times and they are hard to manipulate.

Hell no!!! I would not gig with this with out a back up.
I would not gig with this crap at all!! Hey Dani do you want this
keyboard...come pic it up you troll. I would rather much preffer to throw
this synth of the World Trade Center, or maybe Crack someone in the head with
it, this synth is really, and I mean really heavy, which makes it even a more
pain in the ass to gig with.

Well this is one thing I must say that the people at GEM are very nice
and try there best to help you, but they do not even know how to get
the synth running in tip top a condtion as a matter of fact one of there
Customer service reps told me if I figured it out to give them a call back...
This synth was spawned by Satan himself because all it does is pose problems.

I wish someone would steal it...
It has been sitting at Ashes basement for three months now collecting dust.
Hey Dani!!! Why dont you trying breaking in and stealing it this time
maybe Shagrath wants to take a wack at it, if it were up to me I would wire
this synth with explosives and blow it up and then I would mail it to GEM
in Italy. HEEEEEELLLLLLL NOOOOOO!!!! this did not help me make any music
because anytime I had some serious tracks layed down the dam thing would loose it
or freeze up. I should send this back to hell well it came from.
To anyone out there thinking of buying the please dont, it may seem nice because
of all the things it can do or has, like the to synth engines, on board sampler,
32 tracks, Flash Rom Memory and all this upgradable stuff does not stop this synth
from sucking because it does. Please save your Money and invest in a Korg or a Roland or
and Alesis, Kurzwell. You will be very dissappointed if you buy this.
I have made the mistake already so please dont regret it like I and the other Euiqnox owners out
there did. This synth blows!!!
