The user interface has a mind of it's own, it's not always that logical what key you should press next. You can get a lot of help from the (excellent) manual, but still, it takes some getting used to. I wouldn't recommend this machine for someone who is just getting started with midi; there are a lot 'simpler' machines out there. Once you get the hang of it, it's not bad to work with.

It's got 32-note polyphony. That is, if you use single-occilator sounds (generally less complex sounds). I would have liked 64-note polyphony but keeping in mind that it was built in 1992, I can't really complain. A really awesome feature is the sample RAM (2mb). It's just enough in most productions to mask the 'synthy' final sound, and gives you the opportunity to expand all you like. Onboard 16-track sequencer which is easy to use and offers a lot of editing tools. It's a pretty complete workstation, but it's a shame that there's no way to assign different effects to each track. Then again, I can't think of a synth that CAN.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 8
Overall, this machine sounds great, lots of stereo effect sounds, nice synth sounds, great organ sounds. Guitars are fairly decent, but I don't care much for the piano sounds. The're not really bad, but they certainly don't stand out either. You've all heared these sounds before. In my setup (korg o1/wfd, yamaha mu100r & the s2r) it's in the middle; the korg sounds better, the yamaha slightly badder. But they all blend in nicely!

Reliability : 10
never had any trouble

I had a question once regarding using it with a software sequencer, and I mailed to the dutch representative. I got my answer 3 days later, and it solved everything! (mind you, this was an 10 year old machine, when I asked my question. Thanx General Music!

Overall Rating : 9
I'd defenitely replace it, it completes my home studio! Together with my mu100r (yamaha) and my 01/wfd (korg) I feel I can go in any direction I like. I paid way too little for this, it's wordt 3 times the money. But that's not my problem!;)
