Punto a Favor
Tama??o reducido

Punto en Contra
Pocos Botones para tantas funciones..
display peque??o..

El manual es bastante Extenso.

Features : 8

Polifonia +/-

No es Expandible

No trae Secuenciador. pero eso no importa.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 8
Solo Pienso esto:

Brass: Yamaha - Korg
Drums: Yamaha
Pianos Electricos: Korg
Pianos Acusticos,Electricos,Strings, Acustic Guitar: Roland

Reliability : No Opinion

Customer Support : No Opinion
No tuve que usarla

Overall Rating : 4

Very easy to use.
Making-Sound is so too.

Features : 8
GM+Synth.
Its very understandable.
A filter is weak.
That is disappointed.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 7
It is fine though it isn't real.
Therefore, it isn't rough.
The sound of the 01 series is kept secret in the little body.

Reliability : 10
I have the contents of the bank rewritten easily by using MIDI.
He is a chameleon.
It is light and sturdy. In other words, it is really for the amateur musician.
It is he that can trust it most.

Overall Rating : 7
He is a little giant.
It is excellent in the cost performance.
Sound isn't bad, either.
Sound-making is concise. That is pleasant.
You should buy him if cheerful sound is being looked for.

Like most modules it ain't easy to programme but if you have many modules and are therefore used to programming them then I suppose its simple enough. For the rest of us all is explained in the ample manual (so make sure you get one if buying used). The presets range from fair to really very good - PROG 07:THE STRINGS is wonderful. Whereas most of the pianos are quite lame - they do come into their own when layering though - they add much needed body to an M1 piano sound for example.

Features : 7
32 notes poly total. No keyboard on a module the size of a fat cook book! A veritable fundsworth of built in effects, the usual suspects though, delay, reverb are adequate but as usual digital chorus, flange, phase just don't cook the bacon. Analogue is far better for these effects types. MIDI IN/OUT and THRU as usual, stereo ?" jack out A computer interface to enable it's use as a sound card. What ever for? No expansion capabilities. No Sequencer. I used mine in combi-mode over 5 MIDI channels to very good effect in an ELO tribute. Mainly for strings use.

Expressiveness/Sounds : No Opinion
As explained above a lot of the sounds (all sample based - no synthesis) are very very good with some exceptions. The pianos are a little disappointing as are the kick drum sounds in the percussion section. A useful facility is the ability to control reverb swell with MIDI controller #2 - used to good effect on ELO - Wild West Hero when the reverb crescendos for the last choruses. There are some of KORGS DW-series type basic waveforms for users of that synth but they are quite weak compared to the original (I had a DW8000, well 3 actually - all stolen, apart from the last one which I threw across a car park cos it f----d up!!).

Reliability : 10
I've had 2 of these tools - both were extensively gigged across the land and they NEVER let me down EVER! I used it in a duo and MIDI'd the drums from a PC - well let me put it this way, over a 5 year period the O5R/W always turned up and on time, never sped up or slowed down, didn't want part of the take. How many drummers can you say that about. And I only had to punch the info into the O5 once!!!

Customer Support : 7
Never needed help for the 05. Needed some spares for a DW8000 once and Korg (UK) were quite useful.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I had one stolen once and got another within a week. Sysexed my set-up into it and was away! Been playing since 1986. I love it's size and the KORG sounds - esp PROG 07:THE STRINGS. The built-in demo is cool - not your usual POP crap favoured by Roland. Wish it had portamento. What ever happended to Portamento?

First I was disapointed cause I never used Korg synth before. But I just needed one week-end to understand the way to create my sounds. So i'd say it's really easy to use this module. The manual is quite clear.

Features : 8
32 notes polyphony but I don't need more. 47 kind of effects, great for a so little thing! No on-board sequencer.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 10
This synth is really incredible! If some GM sounds could be better(pianos, flutes) most of them are exellent. But the power of this synth is in the awesome things you can create. If you need sounds from an other world for strange music or experimental this low-price module is the one for you!

Reliability : 9
This module seems fragile but is not at all! I oftenly use it and I'm not very carreful but this Korg is a solid boy!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed.

Overall Rating : 10
This is my favourite gear! If it were lost or stolen I would buy another or something like X5D. It worth more that the price I paid. Korg built a great thing!

I am using cubasis vst V5
I have used the patch editor but im having probs with the save patch function
otherwise this unit is very impressive and easy to use.

The polyphony is great and unlimited it seams.
midi capabilities are poor on the general midi setups
but maybe its me doing something wrong.

Superb KORG SUPERB!
The harp is very very impressive
the on board fx are superb also with all presets you will ever need.

Reliability : 10
This unit has taken some beating from me in the last few months, like sitting the unit underneath a speaker! I must move it and respect it more as it has some superb multi dimenssional sounds.
It would be great and robust on a gig no probs!

Customer Support : No Opinion
never had to luckily!

Overall Rating : 9
This unit has some very usable sounds and I would replace it if it were lost,
Ive been composing for many many years and only recently have i added it to the studio with some good results

Editing this little thing is not an easy task, although, a computer software editor is a perfect solution and corrects the problem in significant way... Emagic Sounddiver and Korg Sound Editor are the gear that i use, and i don't need anything else (maybe a portable hardware sysex manager, when i forgot to backup my sound banks on a gig)

By the way... manual is written in martian, even for experienced users...

Features : 8
32 note polyphony is not enough when you use it as your main synth in combi mode, everything else is ok...

Expressiveness/Sounds : 10
Tired of hearing "Korg Soundbanks sucks"?

Me too... i know perfectly that people who hates korg X5 series, always hear the preset banks... but ?Have they tried the thousand of sounds laying in internet fields? ?Have they heard Ochrestral ensembles, hammond emulations and analog superb sounds?

Korg X5 series can be very boring sound units, but only for people who are lazy and don't program their sounds (or search them on the net)

Reliability : 9
Seems to be very little and fragile, but months gigging and playing have passed and my unit remains intact. Nowadays it's my main synth, but sooner i will use as a backup sound unit obtaining complex and richer sounds.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with korg, bought it used

Overall Rating : 9
Definitely i won't sell this unit, the only sound that i couldn't obtain is a great piano, but everything else, makes this little unit a great piece of gear, as a main synth or backup unit, it worths the price...
If it were stolen of lost, i would try with another korg gear, maybe TRR Rack of something else, to explore another synthesis engine.

Definitely, a great machine

PS: Never judge a Korg machine hearing only their presets, try to explore it and know it first!

Very traditional "korg-ish" layout, so if you're used to the Korg way of thinking, this synth will not be a problem to learn. The only drawback is that the unit is quite small, as are the buttons... This can get a little frustrating at times. However, there are some software-based editors out there that will probably correct this problem.

Features : 8
Effects capabilities are a pleasant surprise for a synth this inexpensive. Again, if you're Korg-savvy there will not be a problem getting used to utilizing them.
Midi implementation seems to be complete, and I have never experienced a problem with it.

I don't know if Korg makes/made a unit that could adapt two of these things to rack configuration or not, but that is something to consider - the base 05R/W is a small module (about double the size of an Alesis Microverb II, for reference), but does not rack mount.

From an output-quality perspective, the unit seems to be quiet, although my studio isn't exactly the quietest thing in the universe (mixer is dying a slow, painful death). This is certainly not a noisy unit, though!

Expressiveness/Sounds : 9
When I first got my unit, I was a little disappointed at the factory presets. A handfull of them were really quite good. At least one in each major category of sounds was immediately useful. However, for my ear, many of them were a little weak. BUT...

A quick visit to Korgy Park and a download of some Sysex files really kicked the unit up a notch in my eyes. There are lots of really good sounds out there. Plus, I have created some of my own that I'm quite pleased with.

I have used it with several different music types, but my recent work has been classical/film-score type music. I keep coming back to this unit for this, so that's a good sign.

Reliability : 10
It is a Korg, 'nuff said...

I've never had a problem, so I can't really comment..

These little fellas are quite common on auction sites, and occasionally you can get one for a really good price. If mine were lost/stolen/destroyed, I'd get another one in a heartbeat. I may even add another one to my existing setup -- they really do a nice job, especially for the money.

This was my first bit of gear ever, I bought it second hand for #150. This module is extremely easy to use, so I can spend my time on creating music rather than trying to figure how to use it. I briefly looked at the manual, and it scared me off, but this little box is easy enough to use.

Features : 8
There is 32 polyphony, but bigger brother X5 has 64. I have produced a song just using this 05r/w and havnt noticed any strugle with the 32 polyphony. There are plenty of effects to choose from, reverb, delay, chorus, rotating speaker etc... The little 2x16 display lets this down a little, but for the price you quickly forget about that.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 7
The instruments are very realistic. I produce dance music and I am very happy with this module, but it will suit all types of music. Onboard effects are very good also. Perhaps the cutt off frequency could be a little better, with use of resonance.

Reliability : 10
It hasnt gone wrong yet!

Im trying to get hold of customer support, because I would like to obtain a 19" rack to put this little thing in, but it aint easy getting hold of anyone.

Lovely sound module, If it went missing, I would buy an X5, but wouldnt turn my nose up to a 05 again.

It's my second Korg sound machine : my first is a Wavestation. It's a very nice module : programming needs the related software for PC
( using switches and little display is not so easy to build sounds ! ).
Presets are find, but creating your own it's easy and the best way to love this module !

Features : 8
Polyphony : 32; Double FX unit ( as on Wavestation ). Features are enough to enjoy to play !

Expressiveness/Sounds : 9
Very cool strings sounds ( try preset 'Layer Strings' ). Hammond's sounds are fine too : the bank on original disk ( for PC programming ) it's a very nice colllection of
Hammon sounds. Effects are enough flexible to give "life" to sounds !

Reliability : 8
I can't see a song without it ! I need it !

A very good sound module. It's useful for all kind of music : from rock to new age.

It took me some time to really learn how to fully program this synth. Especially the bank changes were difficult to make, and in general the LCD display and the minibuttons are discouraging to use. But after I found the Mac Korg Editor program for the synth, my use of it has exploded. The internal architecture for the synth is brilliant. I now consider myself somewhere between experienced and master class for programming this synth. Hmm, maybe master class would require learning the MIDI implementation by heart, but still....

Features : 10
For features see the above reviews. It has more than you could expect. An extremely versatile synth for the money.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 9
When I bought this synth (new) I was really looking for a GM module to compose on. I was looking at the Roland Sound Canvas. For just a few hundred dollars more I got this instead, expecting a little more flexibility in programming. Understatement of the year! These were the best extra few hundred dollars I have ever paid! This synth is a monster in disguise!
The presets are fine for fast-and-dirty composition. Some of the combinations and programs are also usable as they are. But the real power of th synth shows when you re-program the synth. I have found something like 5000 different patches on the internet for this synth, and the number of possible combinations is endless. but one thing I have found particularly great is that I have successfully been able to program the synth entirely to emulate a Hammond L100 organ. I have a template that allows me to program ALL standard Hammond drawbar settings (with a few exceptions) directly. Add to this that the extensive built-in effects section contains a Rotary Speaker, several Reverbs and an Overdrive and you can see that the synth architecture makes it a strong organ module as well. I have easily been able to set the synth up as the heart of the sound for the kind of gigs I am doing with combis of different sounds on different MIDI channels so that I can program an entire set list and save it on the computer. I have an old Mac SE I can lug around for on-the-fly programming. Maybe I would like to have an X5DR for the double polyphony.

Reliability : 9
It seems very robust, and it has been around a lot, and never failed me. I have however heard someone mention a broken PCB inside, so I don't think it should be tossed around - but then no synth should be tossed around.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No Opinion. Never needed it. But for help, go to the excellent Korgy Park site and extend your possibilities on the synth.
