I am looking to purchase disks for the DSS-1. I have a DSS-1 without the disks, and can't find replacements anywhere. Korg does not have them. Any info would be helpful. Write: tedsblues@yahoo.com

Presets: None (it's a sampler)
Sampling/Editing Samples : A bit cumbersome at first, but you get used to it.
Patch editing: Fairly easy, the hardest part to understand for beginners are the envelope generators and the digital delay lines.
Manual: Very confusing - at least until you've used it a few times

Polyphony: 8 Effects: Digital Delays w/ modulation Storage:3.5" floppy -about 1.5min to load, holds 128 sounds in 4 banks. Multitimbral:No Features:Warm ANALOG filters w/res. Digital Wave Generator (additive synthesis, wave drawing)

If you want a sampler for hacking or grand pianos, this is NOT the sampler you want (read: limited memory) If you want to explore new SYNTHESIZED soundscapes with short sampled transient attacks and digital wave generation, than this is for you.
Best sounds:synth, strings, brass, bass, weird, mutated
Effects: Delays used for echo, chorus, flange ... Works well
Has MANY adjustable parameters for velocity & aftertouch routing - reacts well!

Just about bulletproof! just takes awhile to load disks.

Yes, I would buy it again!
I love it's expressiveness and how warm sounding it is.
I wish it had MORE MEMORY!
This thing can emulate sounds ranging from analog to FM to wavetable to straight sampling all in one box. It's great!
