Ease of Use : 8
easy to install.

Features : 8
the triton studio is 60 voices with another 60 for the exb boards so it does add to the polyphony of the triton.

Expressiveness/Sounds : No Opinion

Reliability : 10
I don't expect any problems.

Overall Rating : 9
this is my favorite exb board so far. I have 1,2,3,4 and 7. I think it adds some of the sounds lacking in the triton rom. the choirs are good. the strings and brass are good. all things lacking in the factory rom. there is a pretty good 12 string guitar too. the included combi's are not as impressive as some of the other boards but that is a small matter for me.

First, sorry my bad english. I latin music.I own Triton Pro and this expansion board in inside it. This expansion board has Brasses, Ensembles, Choirs and Strings voices. I use the pads or strings for make song in secuencer. Some voices are better in expansion board that factory voices. Install it is very esay, and the user`s manual is frienly to understand it. No problem for edit voices or make Splits settings in keyboard, but, this expansion would play better in Korg`s Triton Studio or Extreme.

Features : 9
PCM-02 expansion don't add voices in poliphony like Yamaha`s expansion boards, but 62 voices is good for secuencer jobs. You must adjust parameters and arpegios whit knobs, ribbon and value controls. The FX are excelent.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 9
The sound are OK. I use Combi 05 "Hawaii 5-0" brasses, and I think it`s very good emulation of orchestral brasses. The ensemble strings are goods, Choirs and "hummms" sounds are ok. This expansion has a Trumpet Sounds and Acoustic Guitar sounds, but, the best is Strings and Brass Orch voices.

Reliability : 9
Good, I install this board in program D and I use it all time. Too, I don`t remember the factory sounds in program D. I think sold my Triton Pro and buy Triton Extreme, but, my expansion board will install in that new keyboard.

Customer Support : 9
I visit Korg`s web site and I find Updates info for all my keyboards, like Triton, Trinity and expansions. The PCM-02 expansion board is inside keyboard, and doesn`t need repair or asistance.

Overall Rating : 10
Of course, I would buy it if the board were lost or stolen. I have two years with it and really the expansion is very userfull for me. I hope buying soon MOSS expansion, because I want to have my Triton whit full capacity.

I have this inside a Triton 'Classic'(!) with OS version 2.5. I think that most of the presets (paritcularly the combi's) are fantastic. There are only a few stinkers. This board adds 39 extra waveforms to the Triton's sample ROM. These samples consist of string, brass, woodwind, choral, guitar, sitar and a couple of other sounds. Basically I see these waveforms as the waveforms that Korg could not fit into the existing Triton/Karma ROM. This same opinion applies for the EXB PCM01 piano/keyboards board which I have also reviewed.

Features : No Opinion
The board itself does not add extra polyphony, effects or any other features to the instrument. Instead it adds 16mb of extra waveforms (39 in all) to the Triton/Karma waveform ROM. These waveforms are generally an improvement on what is already in ROM sample set IMHO.

The vocal/choral sounds are not what you would call realistic IMHO. I was in fact expecting better after the way Korg were advertising this board as having the ultimate choir sounds. They really aren't a big step above what is already in the Triton. Heck even the old Korg M1 choir patches make an appearance which I think is pretty pointless. But they are there if you are feeling nostalgic!!!!The ensemble string sounds are definetly an improvement on the stock factory programs in the Triton. They are very warm sounding and sit a lot nicer in a mix as compared to the other string sounds that the Triton already contains in it's ROM. Same applies for the brass and I particularly like the new trumpet samples especially the Jazz trumpet. Woodwinds are also a bit better particularly the bass clarinet. There are a couple of new guitar multisounds (samples) but IMHO these are a waste of space. Same applies for the Sitar and the other world sounds. I believe Korg would have been better in giving us improved choral sounds or more variety in brass and woodwinds. Oh by the way, the flute is a big improvement on the stock Triton flute. The onboard combi's are mostly outstanding and I particularly love some of the orchestral layers. Here some of the hybrid world combi's would be right at home on a TV documentary or something like that! My biggest dissapointment comes in the area of drums/percussion! Basically because there are no new waveforms covering these areas!!!!! That is a shame. Perhaps Korg should look at developing an EXB board specifically for this area as well as improved electric and acoustic bass and guitar sounds????????

Reliability : No Opinion
Don't put this board in the washing machine or let insects attack it!

Music Link (Korg's Australian distributor) have always provided top notch service whenever I have contacted them!

If it were lost or stolen I would probably look at putting another one of these boards in the Triton. I believe that Korg released the PCM01 and PCM02 boards because they couldn't fit the data into the Triton or Karma facotry waveform ROM. These 2 cards when inside the Triton seem to totally complement what is already there and make it feel like the 'complete instrument'. I have been playing for over 20 years having origionally started out on organ and later also moved to piano. I also operate my own home project studio and I teach piano and organ privately. I like the fact that this board adds some significant improvements to what should have really been inside the Triton in the 1st place! I'm also dissapointed that there are no new decent drum samples on this board. Korg should have ditched the lacklustre guitar and ethnic sounds and given us a few new acoustic kick, snares, toms and cymbals. Some could argue that this is Korgs answer to an orchestral board. I don't agree as the sounds sit better in a 'pop' enviroment rather than an 'orchestral' enviroment although you can certainly use them in the latter scenario! This board however definetly helps me make some good music and Im glad I have it sitting inside my Triton 'Classic'(!).
