Korg Triton

The korg Triton is much easier to use than the Roland XP-50 that I had before, thanks to the Touch screen, and I found it very user friendly straight away.
I have bought it 5 years ago and have done gigs with it, as well as recordings.
I am very slow to understand technology and didn't find the manual very comprehensible (but then I struggle on most manuals, it's a dread)
The sounds are beautiful, I am originally a piano player and found that the piano sounds were very nice(comparing to the XP50) and am surprised to hear people complaining about those piano sounds.
Editing patches is easy once you manage to find which bit of the menu you need to do what you want...Which I still struggle with because it seems spread all over the place!

Polyphony is good, built in effects are easy to use.
I have never dared expanding it because I am sure I would do something wrong and kill it...
On-board sequencer is very good except it is very hard to edit and somehow seems to act a bit strangely as far as the software is concerned (once, I recorded 2 separate songs and when I was working on the second one, I went back to the first one to see it had deleted itself, even though you are supposed to be able to record many songs at the same time)

Great velocity and aftertouch.
It works well for rock, which is what I used it for.

I have used it at gigs many times and it has never let me down.

They were allright except they said I may have to send it for repair which would have cost a fortune, so I didnt go ahead with it.

Problems arised lately: I think it is a software issue.
A couple of times when I turned it on and started playing, the pitch has sudddenly change itself, without me touching anything, to something completely different, and a few times also rattled on itself when playing a dance pattern . It suddenly starts doing very weird things and I cannot understand why. It is very frustrating.
Something is odd with the Damper pedal also, which seems to sometimes change its effects without me touching the Global buttons. I had saved it to Polarity + as I ised a non korg pedal and this really seems to have a mind of its own, sometimes teh sound stops when I touch the pedal. Again, I think there is a software issue with it.
I wish it was lighter...17kg with the case makes it impossible to rehearse outside without having a car...
I chose this one because I was recommended it as being a good keyboard. I wished it stopped playing tricks on me, though...It has only happened lately...

I use OS 2.53. The presets are decent, If your for sounds and don't care about the workstation, go with something like a Roland Juno-D. The keyboard is easy to use compared to many, but is still difficult in some ways. Editing sounds can be hard, but If I had some analog experience, I believe this would be easier for me. But as far as FX routing, setting up combis and sequences, and simple sound edits are simple. The manual isn't as good as Yamaha and Roland, but is pretty good.

Polyphony isn't a big issue, I would think there would be note cutoffs in combi mode because of only 62 notes and 8 parts, but this really isn't a big problem. For 61 keys, they feel good. The fx can be hard to use at times, but 102 is alot. The vocoder is real cool. I'm able to upgrade to to EXB-PCM cards, 2 32 mb DIMM cards, SCSI board, and a MOSS board. The sequencer can do alot of stuff, I think the Motif's is better

The sounds are great. The keyboard doesn't have a crispyness like newer models have, but it still is good. It has great acoustic instruments. The saxaphones sound good. The organs are good. The piano is horrible, you must add $100 if you want this board cause the pianos are 10x better. I give it a 7 because of the bad pianos. It has good E. pianos.

Its used, so it has some bugs with the audio outs, I have to wiggle the cord just right so it don't buzz. It has had some other issues also, but it usually works good, I can still depend on it.

Triton classic.
The touchscreen makes this the first synth where you can actually tweak patches live ,because youi can go right to the parameteryou want ,instead having to scroll,Assignable knobs are nicetoo,though more would be better.
I have little use for emulations of acoustic instruments,esp witha decent sampler.for anything but pianos acoustic emulations are never convincing because keyboards just don't phrase like strings,horns drums etc.I'm more interested in getting sounds >

i m using version 2.0 , the presets are really godd except the sitar and santor tones they are GM tones just little bit tweaked but at an average the tones are fabulous, editing is tough it is moreindepth u have to dig to tweak 1 sound, the manual is really worst i dnt like it i hardly refer to it as i get confused with it nothing is clearly given.

polyphony is good the keyboard action is awosome.

someinstruments like strings , basss drum kits and other wind instrumenst are real but some are not even close to real.it is good for any sort of project you handle , onboard effect r just what you need for a superb stagering sound , velocity and aftertouch are good

i will go mad if it is stolen , i love its color gradient it is just toooooo ssseexxxy man.i had used roland XP 60 earlier it is also a good keyboard but at a low end this is a high end sexy machine.i love the way it understands my taste each time i work on it .

I'm using 2.0. The presets are fabulous - great acoustic strumming guitar (pre Virtual Guitarist, of course for you computer users, I've cut a couple of very convincing elec guitar solos, especially when you gut the effects yourself and make use of the joystick etc (feedback excellent). Orchestra sounds are brilliant, as usual with Korg (I have owned M1, X2, X3, N364 so far) they do better horn sounds than Roland, better sax, etc. Some wonderful loops, great for modern music, a songwriters dream, very user-friendly, amazing writing tool. CRAP ACOUSTIC PIANO SOUND (sorry, Roland and Yamaha once again blow you away on this score).

Polyphony 60+...I have owned a good few keyboards and consider myself a 'pro player'..like most pros, a lightweight keyboard is a compromise on space, weight and effort on gigs, we all love a good Clavinova board with that real piano feel, but this keyboard goes back to the old school...very expressive, all things said and done I love the feel of it despite being a 61 noter. MIDI is great, TOUCHSCREEN IS A GODSEND! On gigs, finding a patch is like thinking of it and it just appears! Nobody has bettered this feature to date.

All of the above. Great for all styles, would firmly recommend getting your acoustic piano sample from somewhere else, say a JV synth or an XP...hell if you can afford it a FANTOM/MOTIF.

I honestly don't think I could manage without KORGS fabulous player-friendly sound selection. The touch screen turns the thoughts in your head to music under your fingers. I work in a lot of improvised musical and theatrical areas, and feel like the TRITON has become my personal assistant. LOOPS, ORCHESTRAS, SFX -wonderful stuff. Korg unfortunately don't seem to have grasped the essence of our most frequent tool - the Acoustic Piano sound. This knocks off two points, but if you have that base covered by Roland, and you can afford to pay the 6 - 700 quid - do it now! You won't regret it.

very easy to use. presets sound more dance oriented, except for the guitars, organs, and basses.these sound great. easy to find other sound banks for this instrument, which makes it extremely versatile.
I loaded in some triton studio patches in mine-great stuff.

polyphony is fine for me. never dropped a note. however, I've been using it for 5 piece band style arrangements. The action is the best i've felt.i.e. very fast and responsive. The effects separate this keyboard fron all others- true studio quality. This thing sounds like a record.

if I had to rate this board for the stock sounds I'd give it a 7. But, I've never just played the stock sounds. I originally bought it for hiphop music, but now it is my prefered board for rock and jazz. not the best for techno.

This is a review for the Triton Classic. I've had it for more than 3 years now. Software version 2.0. I haven't upgraded because I really didn't get around to it yet...I enjoy playing it so much. The factory presets are cool at first right out of the box, but when you spend just a little time tweaking them, or downloading new sounds online, you'll have an arsenal of killer patches! I'm a sound "junkie" so I'm always tweaking--with all my synths. After reading the manuals, basic editing isn't bad at all. (Yes, there are two manuals, and they are very much "tech speak." Korg could have done better with this.) Just spend time with it. As with any new toy, trial and error pays off. It's not going to blow up, and as long as you don't save any changes, it's cool! Gotta love that touch screen.

60+ Polyphony. The keyboard is nice, but would benefit from being weighted. The built-in effects are amazing. Some people have commented on the fact that the Triton's effects do more than the samples themselves. I haven't stripped the individual programs down to bare necessities to check it out.

Expansion ROMS are available in many flavors. I haven't bought any, nor have I purchased the MOSS board. Why? Very pricey for starters, and besides, I've spent a lot of time with the basics and have been rewarded with the results. I'm a sound junkie like most other synth players, but I also discovered that it's too easy to drop another $500 plus on extras. Spend a few minutes changing samples, playing with the filters and efx. The results are staggering. MIDI implementation is excellent....of course the Triton has velocity and pressure sensitivity. The sequencer takes a bit of time to learn, but from what I've heard, it's a BREEZE compared to the Motif or Kerzweil systems.

Everyone complains about the Triton piano. So what! First off, it's not that bad overall, but if you can't tolerate it, buy a real piano for heaven's sake! Many synth players couldn't care less. I enjoy pads, filter sweeps, popping bass lines, Fairlight-type vocals, analog replications and all that. The Triton does them very well along with its vast arsenal of acoustic samples.

It fills the bill nicely for most any type of music you're doing. The internal effects are very good and there are so many of them! It's fun to experiment with efx and "stack them up." The Triton reacts well to my style of playing, I only wish it had weighted keys and offered better pressure sensitivity. My D-50 does a better job in that area.

My Triton has been on MANY gigs in the last 3 years. It's very reliable. I read a review below where someone said they wouldn't take theirs out on the road. Not sure why. I can't afford a backup!

I've called KORG with basic questions....they've always been very friendly and have also sent helpful info via email. I haven't done any upgrading yet on my Triton, nor has it been in the shop, Thank God.

If it was lost or stolen....HELP! Yes, I'd buy another one. I've heard a lot about the Motif, but when I played one in the store I couldn't find anything that really made me say "wow." The Motif is better in the acoustic sample department, but I don't care about a "perfect" sax, violin, or oboe. This is an electronic instrument and I treat it as such. I love sounds that only a synthezer can make.
I've listened to the Triton's wind, brass and string sounds and they sound pretty amazing. The Hammond organs are good too. People should stop whining about the acoustic sounds! Modify the filter, change the sample, adjust the effects! You'll come close to what you want, or even better....you'll create something you never knew you would hear from the Triton.

I've been playing for over 20 years and this is the best synth I've owned. It's getting a bit old now, technology wise. Korg should have installed a USB port and given the unit a built-in hard drive. The floopy drive is ridiculously slow when loading a file of both programs and combinations. I also wish it had a buffer to allow you to load new sounds while you keep playing.

Bottom line, I've had this keyboard for over 3 years. Every other board I've owned started getting "old" after a couple of years, but the Triton still shines. I've created many new programs for it and downloaded a couple thousand more online. It just gets better every day!

This is the one of the easiest keyboards I've used. The presets are good, but if you load in the Triton Studio patches you'll be a lot happier. You can also load in PA80 patches and Karma pathes as well. This makes for a great palette of sounds. I purchased the board used without a manual, and never needed one.

I love the keyboard action. Makes playing runs very easy. It has 60 notes of polyphony. 2 master effects and 5 insert effects. The effects are a dream to use. I plugged a dynamic mic into the inputs and it sounded like a large diaphram studio condenser. No joke! With expansion cards you can add some great sounds and arpeggios. All around great keyboard. 192 ppq. 200,000 note sequencer.

Here's where a lot of people differ in opinion. If you go by the stock sounds, you'll have a keyboard good enough for hiphop, dance. With the expansion cards, you have possibly the best sounding keyboard available today. It's very advanced.

This is the one keyboard in my arsonal I cannot live without. I own the RS7000, MOTIF CLASSIC, FANTOM S, XV5080, JV2080, JX-305

Presets sound ok, you can tweak it and make it better. Patch editing is easy, and thanks to chicken systems software, and touch screen, its very easy to work with, compared to a yamaha motif. Manual is decent.

Nice dual poly arpeggiators really rock! polyphony is limited compared to say the new motif es yamaha (128 notes+polyphony of expansion board)....where as in triton its only 60 notes + additional 60 for expansion boards. Sometimes when you play piano sequences, the poly phony may seem to lack. Effects are nice 4 inserts. The onboard sequencer is only 192 ppq, compared to yamaha sequencers like rs7000 or rm1x with 480 ppq. I would use a korg triton with a yamaha rm1x.

Great pads, fx, and some synth sounds, crappy acoustic sounds though.
For best acoustic sounds, get motif es with mega voice technology. Filters on the triton are quite weak again compared to yamaha filters.
(I have korg triton and yamaha es, so i am comparing the two).

Very reliable unit for the most part, though the disk drive was quirky at times... I wish korg would put a smart media card like Yamaha does.

If it was lost or stolen, I would buy an access virus c instead for analog sounds. I have plenty of superb drum and acoustic sounds from yamaha motif es, that beats the pants out of the triton. Plus I like yamaha's smart media cards. Triton is great for dance songs, but if I get a access virus C desktop module to go with motif es, i wouldn't need the triton. However, triton is indeed better than roland synthesizers I have used, except the roland jv 5080 which is 32-multi-timbral and 128 note polyphony.

sequencer is good but could be better by having sequencing diagram on the main page to see what you have done and what are you doing now like Fantom .polyphony is not impressing but does the trick .there is no room for storing programs i dont know why they put 4 sluts for sample memory and expansion boards when you dont have enough room to store the programs!

i think this machine fits nicely in dance music.it seems all the sounds are created for dance music. strings are good . guitars are crap.there is no applicable saxiphone and solo violin ...what should i say ... no impressing piano ...there are only pads this machine has only pads and bases....enjoy it !!

if it were lost or stolen i would buy Fantom and spend my money on ex. boards for Fantom . i ve been playing for 15 years and i play acoustic guitar(aria elecord pure like the name guitar!) , electric guitar( peavy with zoom ps-02 ) , drums(roland V-drums) and keyboard
(korg triton and yamaha dx-27 ). i like triton for its beautiful!but i think if you compare triton and fantom without expansion board triton will win but if you spend mony to expand both of them Fantom will kill triton . i like this tuch screen i love the ribbon controller i love some of the sounds i wish it had more space to store programs and a diagram in sequencer for monitoring the tracks and before these things a built in piano sound!!

Quiete straight forward and simple. Editing features are well laid out. Software Version 2.5.

In patch mode it uses only 2 voices which I dont like. Onboard FX are top notch. I hate the sequencer and I prefer to use Sonar, I think Korg could have did a better job. Now the thing I hate most is the stupid stiffy drive they put in. Korg did a good job overall with this machine but skimped on storage for the sampler. Why could they not have put a USB port at the back it would have made newer technologies possible, like pen drives etc. Instead we have to buy a SCSI interface which loads at approx. 150kB/s.

Most of the sounds are very good. except for the acoustic pianos. I bought the MOSS board also. It is a worthy addon IMHO. Some of the sound on it are very expressive like the nylon acoustic guitar, which does a cool fretboard-like pitch bend. Fat synths as well.

This thing is built like a tank. I havent dropped it yet to test it, and dont wish to! It has never frozen up or dropped notes etc. on me yet. I use it live regularly.

Never had to contact Korg yet.

If it were stolen I might consider the Roland Fantom-S. Ive been playing for 16 years now.

I'm using v2.5 which has an up-dated sampling and quantizing function. The latter lets you swing the rhythm to greater effect than previous versions.

The presets?. I think many of them sound great and it would take some really un-imaginative monkeys not to be able to put them to good musical use. Knocking up a library music track on one of these takes next to no time if you're strapped for time.

Thanks to the touch screen it remains the easiest of all the synths I own to program. The two supplied manuals mean that it doesn't take long to figure it out but I have to say its software is incredibly well designed and I've sussed out most of it without having to open the manuals.

Actually now is a good time to point out that editing samples in the Triton could not be easier (as easy as doing it in Kontakt, and easier than Gigastudio). If you're an avid sample maker like me you'll love this feature.

Its got 62 voices on an ok keyboard. The action is quite nice although I use my Synclavier's ORK keyboard and my SY99 as controllers so I don't tend to do too much playing on it. The aftertouch is pretty stiff and less effective than some synths I've played on, but the wealth of other controllers makes up for it.

The built in FX are the best and most flexible on any workstation. The are not just of high quality (and quantity) but it really is like having a few good grade FX units inside the machine. There's some really unusual ones such as the piano sympathetic strings preset which works well with sampled pianos. I've created a LITE version of my EASTWEST Steinway B sample CD and created a program that loads into the Triton and the result is fantastic. There's barely any difference between it and the Gigastudio version and the good quality reverbs have put the icing on the cake. Great stuff!.

It accepts a MOSS board which I haven't yet done, but intend to soon. You can also insert a SCSI board - which I have done and is essential for those who intend to use the sample option - and two korg cards such as the PIANO or ORCHESTRAL series. The sampler takes up to 64mb.

Thanks to the ribbon controller, 2 assignable switches, value slider, 4 assignable knobs and the X-Y joystick, the Triton makes a good controller keyboard if its your main synth. It also has 3 knobs for its very powerful dual arpeggiator and sequencer and makes controlling these features on the fly very enjoyable and easy. No data entry buttons needed :-))

The sequencer is suprisingly powerful (workstation seqs are often a bit of a let-down and take ages to program compared to software ones). I'm used to programming my Synclavier's sequencer so by comparison this is very easy and quick to learn and use!. It can handle 200 events and has a really good cue list feature that lets you assemble pieces in different sections then type in the order at the end to create your final track. Also, there's a cracking pattern feature that lets you create loops of any length, from the usual 4/4 4 bar to a Boulezian 11/32, and assign the finished loop to any key on the keyboard. You can then trigger the loops anywhere anytime in your track and save on using up all your events. R&B, Pop etc are all going to like this feature. I use Cubase SX for a lot of my sequencing work, but often, when I'm up to just sitting back with a beer and writing what the mood takes me, I just use the onboard sequencer for inspiration.

Oh, and it has a GM soundset onboard which can be used with the sequencer to playback standard midifiles. The result is like a high quality version of an SW1000XG doing karaoke (which is meant as a compliment!).

Well, its a sampler, and one with a clear, rich sound. If you don't like what's on offer,put in what you'd prefer to hear. The Chicken Translator will help convert if you don't mind using your computer, or you can import WAVS and akai/EMU format disks directly. It is only limited by the imagination. I happen to really like a lot of the core wavs and some of the presets are really fantastic. The arpeggiator plays an important part in a lot of the COMBIS (combinations of up to 8 basic presets simultaneously, each preset consisting of 2 oscillators/wavs) and helps create some incredibly complicated and evolving sounds.

The Triton works well in any style. I can't think of an area where it couldn't excel. I use it mainly for contemporary classical session work and tv/library music so I can vouch for its effectiveness here. Several times I've had really complicated percussion tracks bursting out of this thing (think "Percussive Adventures" sample CD) to great effect.

I don't use the actual keyboard a great deal so am not best placed to comment on how effective it is, but it seems to work just fine,bar the aftertouch which, as I mentioned, seems a little un-responsive. Of course, that may just be my model, or because I haven't needed to program in a response curve.

The actual side cheeks are thick plastic, but seem pretty strong. Its quite heavy and the touchscreen and joystick need protecting if you carry it around but its been durable nough thus far.

I have gigged with it several times without a backup so no probs there.

Not had any dealings with Korg yet as it hasn't broken down.

I wonder what sort of brain dead monkeys bought it and are seemingly incapable of getting good things out of it, judging by the disparaging amateur reviews I've seen posted from time to time. Its an amazing piece of equipment and I would certainly buy it again. I'm not too bothered about the studio version as it doesn't really have much extra I'd need considering the price difference. I chose the Triton because its such a friendly, great sounding instrument. I can't think of anything I dislike about it except I would quite like to be able to re-sample the internal sounds for use in the sequencer.

Its one of the best designed bits of hardware I've ever used. It helps me make music just the way I like it and has yet to throw up a feature that disappoints me.

It was the great debate. I was in the market for a new keyboard after 7 years of using my Roland XP 60. Since I thought the new Roland stuff was below average, I was told the KorgTriton or Yamaha Motif were the best choices. I rented them both for a weekend to determine which one was best. I loved the interface and creativity of the Korg sounds. I thought the accoustical sounds were horrible. The action on the Triton is average and felt the Triton wasn't to useable for anything accoustical; since those sounds were so bad. I use a piano sound regularly and Korg has never gotten that sound right. The sampled piano sounds like it was taken from a reconditioned casio digital piano. I see the triton being useable for somethings but I needed a complete keybaord and found the Triton to be lacking in many areas.

My overall rating is based upon my comments above

The triton is one of the easiest to use keyboards when it comes to live editing. All of the money sunk into that touch screen is well worth it. I play live most of the time and switching between patches and stuff is cool.

THe action on the triton classic is way better then the Karma or LE. I have never run out of polyphony live. It's sufficient. The effects really make the keyboard, though. I have played the LE and honestly I dont know how people can live on 3 or 4 effects per preset. It excepts 2 expansion cards and a MOSS board and SCSI. THe sequencer is pretty good.

It has some pretty good organs (Gospel stuff, annoying techno house organ...)THe guitars are sufficient. The piano is thin, THe drums are pretty good, and the synths are great as are the strings.

THis thing has never broken down in the 3 and a half years ive used it. It's been smacked around a little, but it's well built.

If this were stolen I'd be pretty ticked. I'd probably get the Studio version though, since its about the price I payed for this one new. If you listen to closely to a lot of rap tracks out you can hear a lot of the samples from the drums. ON Moby's new cd you hear them a lot. A lot of people use this and its very versatile.

is my first workstation that i have full unterstand without the manual!

since os v 2.0 you have a full featured sampler and since 2.5 the triton studio sounds are combatible. the triton is now very long on the market and have all (nearly) what i want.

OS 2.5 is the latest softare version. The touch screen is great for ease of use and makes it relatively simple to edit samples & patches. Although it looks daunting at first, the Triton is a fairly easy keyboard to get to grips with if you give it some time. The only function I still have problems with is the confusing Sequencer, although you can load MIDI files into it which makes life easier. The manuals are total shit. The 'Basic' manual only tells you how to switch the thing on, but you need to be Mr Korg himself to understand the 'Parameters Guide'- there is no middle ground.

I was pretty excited when I upgraded from my X-5 to this in 2001, but my feelings about it are bitter-sweet. So far as the basics are concerned, they're all what you'd expect from a mid range pro keyboard. The ribbon, 4-way joystick/pitchbend and control knobs are very useful.

The value of this keyboard depends entirely on what you want to use it for. I don't normally write these things, but I'm doing it now to warn you that if you're planning on buying a Triton for it's onboard sounds- forget it. I've recently installed a bunch of software synths & progs on my PC, so the Triton has been relegated to the status of a MIDI controller in most respects. The Piano sound is passable with a ton of reverb, as are the strings, the single ARP synth & the Jazz kit. Other than that, Korg seems to put most of their efforts into creating pisspoor gimmicky rythmic patterns and Combis that will really stamp '1999' into any music you create with them. It is possible to rescue some of the sounds through careful use of FX- the graphic EQ in particular (all the FX are very good, though limited in MIDI sequencer mode). You can also do cool things to all the sounds, including samples with the instantly accessible filters.

Where this keyboard really comes into its own is with it's sampling section. For live use, this is invaluable. It's amazingly easy to reconstruct live instruments and to mix and match sampled sounds as programs and combinations. You'll also find it pretty hard to run out of memory even without an upgrade. For live stuff I've sampled in sounds from several knackered analogue keyboards & other instruments which I wouldn't trust on stage. Incorporating them all into the Triton has saved a lot of backache and stress. I don't know why Korg even bothered with the floppy disk drive- it's a complete waste of space. You'll need a SCSI card with a Zip or CD-R drive which'll set you back a few more dollars. The sample time slice function is great for cutting up breaks/loops & automatically assigning them to keys.

My beautiful silver Triton became covered in a thick layer of grey/brown crap within months (a problem that seems to plague all Triton owners) apparently you can clean it, but I'm sure it offers some sort of protection against the elements. It's a heavy bastard and dents easily, which means that if you're taking it out live it's far more liable to get beaten up, even if you're careful. Technically the Triton hasn't failed me yet. My X-5 took a direct hit from a pint of beer once and survived, so I have faith in all Korgs in this respect. You can back up pretty much everything onto disc, so if you can get your hands on a spare, it's no problem loading in all your customised settings.

Never bothered, but the website has OS downloads etc, so I suppose they're not the worst in the world.

As far as sampling features for live use go, I couldn't do without this keyboard. If you take some time to get to know it, you can pull off some fairly impressive tricks with it. In the studio it's just an attractive MIDI controller. To be fair, I haven't seen a keyboard yet with a full set of decent orchestral and synth sounds, so my Triton will probably stay where it is for a while.

In this area this is very disappointing. I've got a korg m1 and a wavestation SR. Before hearing the triton i thought it was -the monster-, so i was planning to sell all to get this one. This is not true ! I only heard preset at the store, but all samples are rather thin and flat, all sounding in the same way :-(.
Even my m1 sounds are fuller !. I don't know if there are dac problems but for sure, this is NOT professional gear. Kurzweil and roland boards destroys this one.

Im using the newest o.s right now this was simple to master the presets arent what there all cracked up to be i think my alesis qs 7.1 has the tritonbeat in that area. i dont feel like bothering with patch editing if they wanted to have a good sounding patch it whould have been on the board. i never used the manual

the polyphony is fine where it is the keyboard action is strait with the price of a triton then with the prices of the expansions their trippin at korg the can suck a fat one on those prices

Using 2.01. great combi patches, good program patches - but brass is far from the truth. Touch display is a great help in live & studio.

I had some troubles using MIDI - why do I have to go in the sequencer mode? otherwise as most korgs, has cool effects 7 arpegiator. Again, the touch display - big & visible makes all the money. It moves reallly slow in sequencer mode if not added ram.

I got the Dance extreme PCm card - new funky patches.

You have to use this keyboard with a foot pedal - it's a different world! Maybe not the best aftertouch, but... you can't have them all, right?

Simple. If you've ever used Korg products since the M1, you're in.

62 voices. Action feels very close to original DX7. If you're a strong player, you will love it. Haven't tried sampling on it yet, but understand it is a breeze. Looking forward to adding more RAM, sound boards and MOSS board. SCSI interface will make life easier too.

Wonderful. EPs, Organs, Strings, Pads, Leads, Drums, Basses, Brass sections, all tremendous. Weaker are the woodwinds, solo strings, guitars, mallet percussion. Wurlitzer EPs are close to perfect. Rhodes pianos sound great, and are fun to play. Typical Korg strengths here.

Only had it a couple days, but I've used and owned Korg products since the late '70s. Never had problems with Korgs, except for my T3 I bought new in 1991. It was a solder problem on the R output. Was fixed and never had a problem after that.

Well, it depends on who you talk to. And on what day. I'm leaving this blank as I know many time poor customer support comes from overworked, underpayed folks who have to deal with klutzes calling up all day saying, "This @#$%*$ thing doesn't work!!" when in reality they have the volume turned down, or it's not plugged in.

I owned a T3 and Trinity TR Rack before getting a Triton Le last February, thinking it would be the same as a regular Triton. Wrong. Triton Le is inferior sounding, has a lame keybed (springy, mushy, and oh-so Casio), and the user interface is twisted. After getting this just 48 hours ago, what a difference. Simply put, the Triton classic is a pro piece of gear, and the Triton Le is not. This feels like a real instrument to me, as my T3 did for so long. The Le always felt like crap. Anyway, this will be my main controller for synth stuff for a long time. Everyone knows by now, the acoustic piano sounds onboard are pretty useless. That's not why you buy a 61-key synth, anyway. Get a good 88-note controller with good pianos, and you won't care. The Triton is still the best all around workstation on the market. Oh, by the way, did I mention that the Le ISN'T??!! ;-)

Im using V.2.1.1 of the OS. This version mostly updates the sampling capabilities to include time stretching etc.....The presets range from average to outstanding. Some of the leads, pads and organs are good. Some drum maps are good also. Built in appregiator is very tight and can render some excellent riffs but the create your own is a tad tedious, but works however. Editing patches is a doddle. Combi mode can create some stunning sounds that you'd try hard to re-create with other synths in this class. The manual....I've rarely needed to look at it except for some sysex info.

Keyboard action on the Triton I think is pretty crap. Dont get me wrong, aftertouch and like is very responsive and realistic but those keys....awwwww ! They are far too 'springy'. No sooner than you've pressed them they are really springing back up at you. Expansion wise its easy to expand and there are endless possibilities.....standard PC100 ram I've installed works a treat bringing the sampling ram up to 96MB. SCSI can be installed to use CDROM/CDR or HD for that matter.
The onboard sequncer is OK, not for total prduction use but its excellent for getting down tracks in a hurry which can then be passed to Cubase or whatever.

Sounds wise, its in a class of its own. The pads are lush and can swirl and sweep whatever way you want. I use it mainly for ambient, chilled out stuff and progressive/funky house. Some sounds can take a bit of tweaking in the effects section in order to sit in some mixes but maybe this is due to the style of music in doing.

I had my Triton for 2 months when the outputs started giving me trouble. I would only get sound coming from the left channel. I resorted to using the headphone out which is naff. Rather than part with my bitch by sending it to Korg in the UK (from N.Ireland) I resorted to opening it up to suss it out. There seemed to be a small component around the amp circuit close to the main L/R out that was completely off the PCB. After removing various circuit boards I managed to resolder it back to the board. It worked for 10 minutes then a slight buzzing sound came from all channels with NO sound when keys were pressed. Next day I turned it on and it worked a treat. It hasnt happened since, even through a house move and being in transit for a while. For a gig I would depend on it due to this problem, although I may have just had bad luck in getting a triton with this problem.

Never dealt with customer support. Korg web site has updates for the OS though.

Lost or stolen.yes I would buy it again but not at the price I paid for it. It is a tad expensive. Dont think it was worth what I paid....would have liked to paid around IR#1500 for it. Love the screen, the UI, sounds, looks. I hate the weight...its damn heavy and difficult to lift. I hate editing the Appregiator. I was looking for other synths at the time I bought this. I played it once and decided to buy :-) I wish it had some more analogue(ish) sounds in it. Sometimes it can sound a bit digital, most likely due to the HI synthesis engine.

The software I am using is v2.1.1. The Triton looks pretty complicated when you first turn it on, but you'll adjust to it extremely quickly. Contrary to popular belief, I don't think the manual really is as awful as it is made out to be, but to be honest I hardly used the manual - I found exploration the best way to learn about its capabilities. It's very easy to create sounds using the HI synthesis at a basic level.

I'm sure you'll probably know the specs for the Triton. The keyboard is VERY nice to use, in my opinion, though admittedly I haven't had a huge amount of experience. The onboard sequencer isn't the best sequencer I've ever used, but I can still use it confidently to make professional sounding tracks - it does the job. The build in effects are nice, and pretty easy to use, and the fact that the Triton is expandable is excellent for those who would like to "choose their style", based on the original excellence of it.

Sounds should really be the most important factor about a synth, and the Triton excels in this area. Simply put, the sounds are beautiful. The best sounds are probably the pads, and the organs - the combination opportunities for pads are endless, really, and you can come out with some amazing sounds in a short time. The pianos have been criticised, though I think they are largely very realistic, and the bass sounds are also really good.

The Triton would probably work best for any type of electronic music. Personally, I use it for trance, and I've found it an indispensable piece of equipment, as it is so easy to find decent electronic sounds, and compositions. Due to the quality of the pads, and effects, I think it would work well for ambience.

The reaction to my playing is amazing - the keys respond so well, and the aftertouch is very accurate.

I haven't used it for a gig as of yet, though it has been up and down the stairs a lot, for recording. I'd strongly recommend getting a bag for it, or if you're travelling further, a hard case.

I haven't needed to call on the customer support much, so I won't grade it - though I must say I was unimpressed at having to sign up three times for the latest Korg magazine, and then getting my hands on it three months after its release.

If it were lost, I'd cry and wish I'd taken out insurance. If it were stolen I'd take up a worldwide search to find it, and imprison and torture the person that stole it. I'd start by-- okay, enough of that. I haven't been playing for that many years, but it has definitely helped me improve musically, and I've found a whole range of new and advanced compositions while using it. The best thing about it is simply how everything is compiled together in a nice way. Sure, there are probably better options in the sampling area, the sequencing area, etc. if you want specific equipment. But nothing, NOTHING beats the Triton on value-for-money. It's my most prized posession.

There is nothing so damn easy in the world! It's the best keyboard for rookies, period. And it has everything in it, really everything. Maybe not everything is excellent - but as all in one board it's just perfect. Presets are very good, though you may like to have some pretty basic sounds, like straight pads etc... The only thing I don't like is that screen lies in spme kind of pit. So you really have to LOOK inside of it. Trinity is much more comfortable - the screen is a bit bigger and more easy to read from far. But that's not a problem, just get use to...

Sounds are massive. There is no other way to describe it. It's so massive that it makes really hard to put something else in the arrangement. It easily absorbs other sounds. You will really need to mix carefully, if you want to put some, say, Roland sounds in. I don't like el.guitars, but everything else is really good (even a piano - I'm into New Age, I like that kind of pianos). Pads are state of the art. Really rolling and punchy el. basses. As I've said earlier, this is the board for those rookies who look for a quick find to learn programming technique. If you have a wish - it won't impede you to perfect your skills. If it had a nice filters (like Trinity)... Oh well, you never get anything perfect...

A good user interface with the touch screen. It is sometimes more practical to use the touchview interface instead of the SoundDiver editor.

Ok polyphony, quite nice built-in effects considering the Roland JV/XP line. But Roland XV5080 has much cooler and pro-quality effects. No sys-ex on sequencer mode!

This is the point I really like to write about... Triton is good for R&B, hiphop or such kind of styles that require solid sounds. And I think it is very unsuitable for genres who seek for warm, soft, edgy, organic or experimental stuff.

The synthetic resources are very weak considering Roland synths. The filter is very tricky. It offers only a lowpass filter with resonance. No resonance with highpass filter and no band or notch filters! The character of the filter seem to sound good to me in the shop on reso-bass kind of sounds though when I experimented with it at home its sounded very artifical. Almost sounds the same on any waveform as if the resonance sound is not real but an additional sine oscilator does the trick.

The is no exciting sound-manipulating resources it offers. No cross-modulation, no real ring modulation, the filter section is very inflexible and how Korg still goes with only two partials for a program amazes me! The sounds are always thin because of this!

Especially when you turn off the onboard effects, the sounds are really very thin, very unexciting and rough!

I should note that the standart acoustic stuff sounds good on this synth, like the brasses and guitars, as well as the drums and epianos. But Korg seem to offer good sounds only for standard pop stuff. Roland JV series were not pretty good on solid sounds but they feel much more like a real synthesizer with sound manipulation possibilities they offer.

I guess Korg sounded better than JV/XPs only because of its flexible internal effects and having a larger internal waveform memory. But XV series Rolands definitly sounds much cooler than Triton in every aspect.

MOSS board is the only option for Triton to offer some real synthesis. And it sounds really cool but the polyphony (only 6) and its inflexible EFX routings make it not so valuable.

Good built, I think.

I won't buy it definitely and go for a Roland XV5080 which feels much more like a real synth!

Editing patches is pretty simple but getting used to the Sequencer took awhile, but getting used to anything new is a given.
The Basic Manual is pretty easy to follow but the more advanced manual is something that has to be read about 5 times before it clicks.

Keyboard action on this board feels good. I like the after touch effects on some of the programs/combi's.
The built in effects are excellent. Plenty of knobs for adjusting both the keyboard sound and arpeggiator sounds. The joystick and ribbon and a nice touch for special effects.
The Triton has plenty of expansion capabilites: it has like 6 or 7 pcm boards and the AWESOME MOSS board also.
This workstation is FULL of excellent features.

I use my workstation for goth/industrial type music and all of the sounds and features work well for this style of music. I could also see that any musicians that would use it for Techno/Dance music would find great use out of this workstation as well.

This workstation is pretty solid (Just pick it up and you will see). I have hauled it between my home and my recording/rehearsal area several times and it hasn't taken a scratch. The O/S seems stable and has never crashed on me either. This board is the most reliable that I own.

Never had to use this yet. But Korg is a good name in synths and workstations and I wouldn't think they would destroy their name by having horrible customer support.

Triton is very powerful..and the user interface makes everything so simple. From editing patches to routing the effects and to just purely capture the burst of inspiration, Triton is H-E-A-V-EN.

Its what I came up with during the past 6 months that I had the synth.
Everything done on Triton..coz thats my "Studio".
Manual is a lil bit too technical if you are new to all the LFO's and Filters. But eventually you'll appreciate it. The basics are explained clear enough...although I think it could be improved. But once you get the hang of it everything becomes easy.

When the effects and the sequencing come together you can really create some magic with this board. The effect routing is very well implemented. If you are going in for a Triton make sure you get a MOSS expansion...Its awesome. It adds the Z1 based tone generator.
The sequencer is very easy to learn and use...and also powerful enough to do a whole song. There's one thing that bugs me on this...There is only one level of "Undo" in the sequencer. You gotta be very careful!

No limit for expressiveness on this board! I got used to the ribbon controller
so much that I cannot imagine playing a board without it.
There are 4 real time knobs that you can program to change
any parameter of the sound you're playing.
The sounds I love the most on this are Strings and Pads.
The preset Pads are very useable. There's a huge selection of
drum patches on board. There has been a lot of buss about Triton being a dance intrument..but It also has a lot of real world intruments that sounds "real".

Cant comment on this area much...I dont do much gigging.

If I loose it and I win a lottery for $2500...I'd run to the nearest
GC and get one! Triton has given me a good start into the world on electronic music..It has helped me put my ideas into reality.

I am using software version 2.0.1. Patches are easy to edit once you get the hang of the touch-screen. In just two days, I edited the piano that everyone hates; tweaked to a much more acceptable piano sound.
The manual is only suitable for engineers. I think the basic guide do help a little(very) but the parameter guide must be written in some martian language.

I LOVE THE KEYBOARD ACTION! I'm not a classical pianist and I love the "bounce" of the keys. It's fast and suitable for killer lead solos.
Effects are good. Adding the effects to the clean guitar sound I sampled made it sound as if played by a real guitarist. Pity there's no distortion though(or did I miss it?)Sampling with distorted guitar proves very difficult.
Sampler is easy to use. Just record and edit. This is the reason why I bought the Triton and it is money well-worth. Now I can have nice guitar strumming patterns instead of using the original guitar patch.
The sequencer is easy to use too. I've been using Cakewalk all my life but i think this sequencer will replace that in no time. Haven't really went into the minor details such as quantize or step-recording. But real-time recording seems good.

As with every synth, some sounds are good, some are bad. The GM sounds are pretty standard but it's the synth sounds that are very good. Some COMBI sounds are pretty well done too. No need for patch editing.
This is a synth suitable for techno, trance and house. If you are a rock or pop musician, you might find the no. of sounds more limited since the Triton is dominated by futuristic sounds. That's where the sampler comes in....
Nice joystick. Programmable to almost any situation that will be encountered when playing live. Ribbon is useful too but I haven't really find out how to program it.

I just have it for a week and everything is still going well. Looks sturdy enough for me for gigs.

I think I will buy it again. It's hard to find a workstation that provides everything. Sequencer, sampler. I love the touchscreen-makes everything so easy. The sounds are generally solid and the fact that it is in eye-catching silver!!! I won't recommend it if you are playing single-tier for gigs though. Sound change is slow and the sound cuts off when changing sounds. Disk load or save takes ages too. No distortion effect-that means I can't get my clean sampled guitar distorted(If I did miss this out, can someone please tell me where I can find it? E-mail me at vibes@freeze.com
I play in a disco and I use it together with a Yamaha S-80, Roland XP-80 and Korg N5-EX. At home, it is hooked up to my PC, a Yamaha PSR540 and a Yamaha DJX-II.
There's also something unique about the bluish glow of the screen. Together with some dim lighting, it makes your creative juices flow.

I am using verson 2.0.1. You don't need a patch editor because it is easy to edit patches right on the Triton. There is also a compare button to compare the preset with the sound that you like. When you first open the manual, you may need a rocket scientist to help you understand it. The manual was deep! It took me months to just feel the format of the manual. Really...the manual is no joke! The touch screen makes it very, very easy to use, but initially, the features of this board was a little complicate. Now, everything is like a piece of cake.

There are too many features on this board. It even comes with a sampler! The polyphony is 64. The board action is not like the Pro X model; I guest you get what you pay. This board has too many effects: all kind of effects with thousands of parameters. It does have expansion possibilities. I think Korg has near 8 expansion boards with a Z1 Moss board as well. The Moss is phat! The midi capabilities are endless and the Triton does come with a built-in sequencer. Everything about the sequencer can be edited. This board is loaded with features!

There are some good and some bad about every piece of equipment we buy.
GOOD: The sounds from Triton are very full indeed and I think this is what people like about the Triton. The sounds are not weak or thin. Pads, strings, S.E.,drums and regular synth sound are very good. Also the bells sound ok. As for as a keyboard is concern, the effects are very good.
Bad: Without the effects, all sounds are dry/dull. Using the built-in effects are a must for the Triton. To me, if you want perfection, nothing can be recorded without the Triton built-in effects. If you are a professional piano player, you will not find a real piano sound on the Triton. I have been on stage with professional mucisian since the 70's and I am here to tell you that there are no real brass sounds from the Triton. There are no real woodwind sounds from this board. sax, clarinet and etc. The guitar sounds doesn't come close to a real guitar.

This board is very reliable and I would use it on a gig without a backup.

As for as music equipment is concern, tech support from korg is the worst that I had ever experienced. I feel that they are trying to improve on their tech support. On their website, I could not even find an e-mail address; it may be there now, but I don't think so. Let me see...no it is not there!

If this board was lost, I will not buy it again because I only can use it for pads, S.E. and strings: basic sounds. I can not use 70% of this board for the music I write: techno, electronic, trance and etc. The sound that I need come from Nord Leads, Access Virus, Waldorf and the like. I like aggressive type of keyboards and this is only personal for what I like to do. If you have a good effect processor like the Lexicon or the TC electronic processors, why should you pay extra for effects incorporated inside of a keyboard. The sample is good on the Triton, but nothing is better than a dedicated sample like the MPC2000. I should had known better, but I purchased this board because of the hype and the money was there for me. The Triton does what it is design to do. It may be awesome to someone else, but most of the Triton is just not for me.

The present sounds varied. I find all Korgs sounds really warm (in comparison to Roland, oberhiem) The only other keyboard i have heard be so warm is the Alesis Quadrasynth6.1.

Stripping the effects off the programs & combos are awsome. They are very well done. The one thing if you are considering this synth is realistic sounds are far and few between (aka oboes, pianos, brass). But when it comes to organs it is by far the best emulation of what i own.

The Present out-of-the-box present combo and programs are ok. They do range from organs, strings, brass, effects, dance, drums, ect. . so good range of stuff.

The editing of the combi is really simple to use. If you have owned any other Korg Products (aka O1/W) you will find this instrument very easy to use. the interface comes with touch sensitivity so it is pretty easy to move around in.

The manual was very easy for me to read and understand. Again i have several other instruments and is very easy a read compared to others like Rolands.

The Brass and Pianos have something to be lacked if you are looking for professional sounding grand piano sounds but, that haave great dance and balland synth pianos.

It has 62 voice polyphony.

Built in effects are AMAZING. Very warm and manipulating. you have 5 insert effects per program and 2 master effects. (69 that i could scroll through in the combi selection section. remember this just the basic Korg Triton). In combi mode you can use either insert or master not both per channel. in other words if you use inserts on a channel you can't also use master on that channel and vice versa. You can link effects and route the inserts to master effects also! amazing layout.

You have a built in arpegiator that is amazing. I own the Roland jp-8000 and this arpeggiator is much better and more features. right on the front panel you have the ability to change the arp settings by nobs (tempo, gate, velocity). in combo mode you can use 2 arps at the same time! Amazing. (note: Roland Jv-2080) you can change a quite a few presets (231! 31 of which you can make your own sets).

other then that the same ol touch sensitiviy (standard Korg lightweight keys O1/R keyboard touch)

I didn't check out the sequencer because i use Emagic Logic Audio.

I didn't review the Sampler due to my use of the EMU 6400. but it is tempting to use it. although i would suggest buying the addaption for a SCSI interface if you do. Floppys is the only way to save your RAM samples otherwise :) (Triton doesn' come with SCSI . sold sep)

oh yeah present sounds are on floppy and can be restored from there. you can also save your sounds to floppy to take to other tritons if you go to a studio with one!

Realistic for those sounds trying to be so, are 5 of 10. Brass was one of the worst i have heard. Sounds is what brings this instrument down in this catagory but read on. very Dance uless that is what you want to hear. very 90's brass. The Organs are by far the best i have heard. and i own a lot of synths (listed below).

Sytles i think it woudl work for range. Pop, Dance, Rock, Hip Hop, urban all kinds of styles EXCEPT Orchestral (if you seek real sounds see JV-1080, 2080 orcestral II)

the reactions to my playing are wonderful. you have the ability to assign all your effects or modulations and such (aka wah, pass filters ect) to your x and y joy or ribbon controller.

Velocity and After touch are well done. i did have a bit of a prob with the ribbon controller reacting without heavy pressure. (Note:Rolands JP-8000's ribbon very ncie and sensitive.)

I believe i can depend on this Synth ALMOST completely. I don't do gigs live since it is a rec studio it is in. It has a touch sensitive screen which is the only thing i dont' like because it worries me it might go bad. (aka people hitting it too hard) but if i know Korg i feel safe enough to buy it dispite. so i would say so far it has been fine but i have only had it for 2 days.

use at a gig without back. . . hmm. . .well it isn't bust proof. the touch screen worries me. but dont' know.

If this instrument werwe stolen or broke i woudl fix it or replace it of course! it fits like a glove in ths studio with the rest of the gear i use. It is worth what i paid. i would say i would have paid up to 2500 for it. but unless it is your homebase for all sounds i wouldn't pay anymore.

I love the fact it is very synth feeling. REalistic is NOT what i bought this synth for. I love the effects (roterty speaker, amp emulations, distortions, ovd) the distortions are very realistic unlike the past synths (o1/w or rolands JV2080) they don't sound like stomp boxes. they sound like warm tube distortions.

and the organs. man they rock!

I own these other pieces of gear and it fits in like a glove (Roland Jv-2080, JP-8000, Roland D-70, TD-10 v drums, Korg O1/RW, Alesis D5 & D4,Oberhiem M1000 and much more gear but that is all the synths i have currently own. What i have used and once owned: Roland D-20.)

ok, this is where da Rock was really disappointed... I believed the hype and bought one of these...But the sounds werent all that. The standard presets are crummy for the most part, you have to really tweak the sounds...The final word...The Rock lays the smack down on the Korg!!

When buying a new keyboard I have learned from past experience that you have to really think of what music your playing?, can you afford the synth?, will you regret it?, and will it sound good in a live atmosphere?. For my experience with the Triton since 12/29/2000 I can say yes to most of these questions. I was tentative at first but traded a TR-Rack in because it was to cumbersome to use in a live atmosphere. I have a four keyboard rig a play with every week an modules just don't cut it in a live situation where you need sounds at a moments notice.In the reggae band I play with I use an Roland XP-50, Korg-M1, Yamaha S80 and the Triton. The manual is pretty well written and you have to really just fool around with the touch screen when you have the time. Unless you are really adept it will take more than one sitting just to go through everything. Factory presets could even take a day.

The Triton's action is very general but feels good even if you come from classical trainig. I love working with the sequencer. It is pretty easy to get around even for someone not that adept with technology. As far as I know Korg has not released all of the expansion boards yet so it is expandable. I have not really dove into the effects portion of it yet.

If you are a live player your always concerned with sound, sound, sound. I don't trust much editing because if the patch is not good in the first place chances are it does not get much better. The Brasses are great. I have always been impressed with Korg's Brasses. The piano sounds you can be thrown out the window. The s80in opinion has the best pianos because they produce acoustic models anyway. I don't mean to sound harsh but that is an important thing in a synth. People need good piano patches. The combi patches are great, lot of fun. I also like the patterns that Korg gives you. Some of the Reggae templets are not bad. Generally a lot of cultural music is not well represented or "white washed". They did a decent job. The Combi A43 Brass is good. I like the Program A55 organ as well.

I have this funny feeling that this keyboard is a little fragile with it's plastic ends and what not. It is cold here in New York so I am careful about leaving in the truck for too long. My M1 is in great shape and a real workhorse. Korgs products are always requested on any rider from major reggae artists from Jamaica. The M1, O1W/FD,Triton and Trinity' are always requested. Korgs products are always road worthy so I hope the Triton can live up to that reputation.

Well this is a great synth. Very nice to use and gig with. It can perform in a variety of environments effectively. I hear it being compared to old gear all the time but it has it's place. I am really convinced that if you are after realistic sounds from one synth you will not find it. I use boards from 3 manufactuers on stage at a time. The Triton is expensive but with the sampler on board it makes sense. I bought it wondering what the hype was about and really likedthe combi settings when I first heard them. Take your time and try it out.

Keyboard is quite easy to navigate through. I was very happy with the factory preset sounds, but you can tweak them as needed from the programming menu's. I haven't used the patch editing much at this point because the factory sounds were completely ample for my needs in the studio. The manual is what you might come to expect from a heavy duty pro equipment piece. Pack a lunch, it takes a while to get throught them (more than one manual). But, they made it very easy to look up things as needed. Which was a welcomed blessing from the past.

Although I am not a keyboardist in the professional sense, I am a semi pro musician and count on pro gear to put out. So, having spent the money on the Triton, I have found the features to be very exciting and absolutely mind blowing at times, what you can do with a standard signal input. It may come in clean, but you basically can run it through processors, filtering, etc and that mid tone bass guitar just got HUGE. I was very pleased with the features. Polyphony has been tested in some larger track compositions. I haven't ran into any problems with polyphony. The standard action of the keyboard feels standard, and comfortable. The onboard processors and filtering was pretty simple to navigate through if you browse your manual(s) first. All in all it deserves a thumbs up.

I found the sweeps, pads, trigger responses, etc to be quite versatile and very realistic. The drum sounds were very nice full sets. I only wish there were more sets to view. But, I can purchase additional kits on disc. Aftertouch assignments and programability will most likely require you to take a gander back at your manual(s).

Reliability of my Triton 61 is rated at 100% reliability. I've had it out and about also inside a recording facility. It has never given me problems from less than 20 degrees all the way up to about 90 degrees. I have a second backup keyboard, but I don't ever bother taking it out (the 76 Roland model) because the reliability on the Triton 61 is great.

I have never had to work with customer support. Which could identify this as a quality piece, not needing support. Everything I questioned I found either in the manual(s) or on the net. I have sent an email to their support desk once and after 3 days I was responded to. I believe that is about the norm for customer support. Granted, same day or better yet, same hour, is always preferred for their response especially when you're paying studio rates by the hour. But, go in with everything planned out. I give them a thumbs up for support. Email 3 day response time is in the norm.

If it were stolen, yes I would replace it with my insurance money. Was it worth the money spent, yes it was very much worth the price. Other gear owned is a Roland JV-1000 76 note, Mac G4 Pro Tools, IBM PC Steinberg VST, Yamaha AW4416, Neumann u87ai mic, Demeter mic preamp, Hamer, Ovation, Roland TD-7 Turbo drum kit, Event Tria studio monitor system, blah blah blah, etc. Does it help me make music? I would say that it could help you make music but I go into writing with the ideas already scoped out. Is there anything else i'd like to share? Yes, if you are going to spend this much money on a

Much of the brass and sax sounds don't hold a candle to my Korg O1-R or M-1. The acoustic piano sounds are horrible. Hammond organs are great. Apply Trinity technology and cut the bull!!!

This is a very versitile, user friendly keyboard with lots of features superior to anything else out there for the money. But Korg was well aware what they were doing when they deprived the Triton some of the quality sounds of their previous lines. Specifically the sax, bigband brass, trumpet and piano sounds are definitly inferior to the Trinity, O1-R and the M-1 respectively.

The strings, bass, and leads are ok. I was really disapointed in the drum kits, they just suck. They should not even put the brass section on the triton because they sound horrible.

The triton is an excellent tool for any studio. you work with it and it works with you. It could improve on the timbre and put a wav editor some where.

62 + 6 polyphony (MOSS option) make this keyboard a monster. There are amazing effects, easy to use, very versatile. The expansion capabilities is another great feature. MIDI and sequencer work so fine.

Using the latest (as of Feb 2, 01) I beleive is 2.02.
The presets are great. I'm new to keyboards. My last synth was a DX-7 from 12 years ago! But I do like the presets. You can learn from them. Editing the patches is easy, even for me. I think the manual could be a little more user friendly. Pretty intense.

The keyboard action is very good, for a non-weighted keyboard.
The effects are also high quality. Haven't done any heavy editing yet. I have not purchased any expansion cards, although I would like to soon. Even with my limited synth knowledge, I feel the sequencer could be more powerful, but for the money of the whole shabang...not bad. So far I'm struggling with sequencing in the Combination Mode.

Sounds good. This is my only synth other than my DX-7.
I can't be to subjective. But I think it kicks ass.

I had to return my first Triton, loose key. They just gave me another one. This one is fine.

Yes, with the help of my VS-1680 and Marshalls and POD I will expand my musical content and creativity.

The presets are pretty good; they cover a wide range of instruments. Editing the built-in patches (or creating new ones) is not difficult at all; the interface is very intuitive. The manuals are great - well organized, clear, concise, informative. Just as a manual should be.

62 voice polyphony, the EXB-Moss expansion board adds 6 more. Great selection of built in effects, from delays to chorus/flanger/phaser (a few of each) to reverbs to rotary speaker FX to pitch shifters, etc. However, you WILL run out of effects if you do anything complex - 5 insert FX and 2 Master FX sounds like a lot, but it's easy to use those slots up quickly. There are a variety of expansion options, from cards that give you more patches to use or sample RAM upgrades. Good controller options: joystick, ribbon, 4 assignable knobs, a slider, 2 assignable button switches, pressure sensitive, polyphonic after touch, you can plug in a damper and expression pedal and another switch(both of those last 2 are assignable). Built in sequencer with some very useful features (create control change data, pattern editing). Didn't take me long to learn to use the Seq. This is my first synth.

There is a world of sound inside this little silver box. I'd feel comfortable using it to produce almost any Genre of music, except perhaps classical, unless I were to get an expansion board with better piano sounds. There onboard effects are good; lots of options, lots of control. A lot of the effects can be synced to a MIDI clock. Very responsive machine. You have 5 velocity and aftertouch curves to choose from, allowing you to get the right feel for your style of playing.

No operational problems yet....

Definitely worth the price. I'd replace it immediately if it were lost or stolen (assuming, of course, that I had the $$$). I learned piano in middle school. The only other music gear I own is my Peavey Foundation 4 string bass and a ceramic doumbek made by a friend. I love the FX selection, the controllers, and the touchscreen. I hate the fact that you can NOT sample any internally generated sounds (which the Yamaha EX5 CAN do....). I spent many hours in Mars music playing with the Triton, the Trinity, the Roland JP-8000, the Yamaha EX5, the Yamaha CS6x, and the AN1x. I chose this machine because of the huge variety of sounds one can create with it and because of the freedom for sound creation that comes with having an integrated sampler. I really enjoy creating with this machine.

Software ver. 2.0. A very easy board to get around on once you get it.

I've heard. They are a good starting point, but if you're heavy into pianos
you're going to have to tweak or maybe try to piano PCM card.
I have not been able to dive deep into the editing, so I won't comment.
The manual has plenty of detail, but is written horribly. They forgot
about being user friendly. I'm an engineer that reads many manuals and I k
know that I would get repremanded for creating a manual this user-unfriendly.

The polyphony is fine being it is not my only sound generator. I've gotten so use to my
MR-76's weighted keys, it's hard to get use to the plastic keys. I still use the MR as my
main keyboard, so that doesn't bother me.
The effects are great and very easy to use.
The expansion capabilities are dissappointing. Even my MR-76 has four expansion card slots
and I they don't eat up my preset sounds either.
MIDI looks fine and easy to set up for my situation.
Having a built in sampler is great.
The sequencer is pretty good for my use. If I'm doing hip-hop loops it's great. If
I'm writting a jazz or R&B piece, then I will start on the Triton, then go to
Cakewalk to create the song. I wish it could groove quantize.

The presets on this board seem to be geared towards new music (hip-hop,
dance, trance, etc.) The electronic basses are good the synth strings are
great. Some of the guitars are good (I didn't say realistic). I've read
all the reviews hear before buying the Triton, so I knew not to expect
a great piano. I will confirm the the pianos preset aren't that good. My
MR-76 has better piano presets. I haven't had the board long enough to
evaluate how well you can tweak the sounds.

It reacts well to my playing and I love the ribbon board. The thing that I
find sounds is that most synths today have good sounds, but they almost never
"realistic". A keyboard at this price point will never fool someone
expecting it to sound like the New York Philharmonic.
For me, this board will another great tool in my arsenal.

I've been playing for 16 years. I own: Moog, Casio CZ1000, Sequential TOM, Kawaii K1,
Akai s2800, Ensoniq MR-76, Korg X5DR, Alesis SR16.
I love the fact that it is truely a workstation. From one board you can compose
your ideas and with the sampler, can create good pieces of work from one board.
I don't like the pianos.
I looked at getting a XV-5080 sound module, but decided that I need a more
portable workstation than my MR-76. I will still buy the XV, but at a later
date.
I wish: it had digital I/O, it had better piano preset, factory hard drive option,
the expansion cards were accessed from extra memory banks.

I think this is the best workstation for the price point ($2000). Sure, it may
not compete with stand-a-lone synths, samplers, sequencer. But pound for pound
there is not another workstation that does as much for the price. If I had
$5000 to spend right now, I would look hard at the Kurzweil 2600 series. But
that's $3000 more.......

The greatest most nourishing thing, after food that is. Very experienced in the studio so I should know.

I'm using V-2.0 and I like it ok. Being a live player at 4-7 times a week I like the ability to scroll through the sounds or punch them in. I made myself a little card that has about 50 of my favorite sounds and patches that I use a quick reference. The only fault I feel coming from someone who's played any other keyboard but KORG, is the lack in the piano department. The electric pianos are pretty killer, and the "Rhodes" sounds are pretty kick butt, but the grand and acoustic sounds are weak. I have a lot of fun just sitting around playing with the different sounds on the thing. There tends to be a little to much in the arena of techno and not enough in piano and guitar sounds. Not that its a problem, because you can just sample them, but it would be nice to have better factory sounds in that arena. (Hint...hint...KORG)
The best way to describe this keyboard (as far as sounds go) that I've come up with yet is: A very user friendly keyboard that takes hours of sitting in a chair playing with to figure out.
The manual is good if you know KORG language. If not, then your looking at alot of studying to figure out what they're talking about. However, it is comprehensive. This is not the keyboard you wanna buy if your just trying to look cool, because you'll kill yourself first IF your not a real musician.

62-64... There is a little trick to this. The action is normal as far a keyboard action goes... I don't think you can get to many different feels from non-weighted keys, unless your playing with a piece of garbage. The responsiveness is killer; I love the after-touch. If you don't know what that is, press a key down to get a sound and then press harder while still holding it down. (I didn't see anyone else mention it.) The FX are killer. It is the entire board. Of course FX are the entire music industry right now. I almost feel like the industry is saying, "We can't think of any new instruments to come up with sooooo, we'll just tweak the HECK out of the ones we do have". This is pretty much what KORG did on this keyboard. Alot of the same sounds, just tweaked in different directions. I mean, come on!... How many ways can you tweak a "saw" wave guys!??
I don't use MIDI, I think MIDI sucks and it doesn't respond fast enough. Just SCSI everything, or sequence on the board itself and save to hard disk.
The sequencer is very powerful, but I hate the fact that it's so volatile. KORG should have put more room to save data right on the machine. For $2000-$3000 you should get a killer keyboard plus a laptop right onboard. I do like the way the sequencer is so huge though. I just sold a keyboard that only had a 9,000 note capacity. (But the sequencer was the best I've ever seen). It's nice to jump to over 200,000 notes. I've expanded the keyboard with the SCSI drive, and soon the MOSS board. I like the fact that I can sample up to 11 minutes with RAM expansions. It's pretty self contained. With a couple of good digital recording devices, you'd be set.

Great Drums (Of course...KORG...) Great synths and pads. No scratch sounds for the guitars that I found yet which kind of sucks. The ribbon controller is very cool for doing electric guitar lead rifs. I think the key is the FX. Once you get good in this department, you can tweak any sound you want. The problem with this is obviously using it in a sequence that requires other effects that conflict with the one your using on the patch. The FX themselves are very BOSS... man, they kick! Arpeggiator is something that I've been drooling over for a while now. But it's basically a dance keyboard. You do have the ability of changing the meter timings from measure to measure which is kind of cool if your a classical pianist. I could walk into the best dance clubs in my town here, (I won't say where) and take over with the Triton! Just one touch from the right set up of combinations and BOOM, the rest would be history.

It's been a great keyboard. I use it all the time during gigs without backup. I know it won't crap on me... I do suggest covering the buttons with plastic though if your going to play in a place where your likely to get "wet"... or have something get spilled on it.(Thanks Mike). Just don't play the keys to hard, or the restraints might snap off. I've had two Tritons and this is the problem I have with most keyboards.

Only sometimes, and they're pretty cool. Little to much run around, but I have to say that they're great. Go KORG!

The price I paid was because I knew someone. So don't get mad. I just heard that KORG is raising the price of the keyboard even higher because of the demand; they cannot keep them on the shelf. So find someone you know and get one through them.
I've been a musician for over 25 years, and I've played everything. I started as a professional drummer, and then moved to KEYS. I've only been at it for about 6 years now, but I love it, and can't wait till I really learn how to use my Triton.
I'd like to see the sequencer be a little more friendly, and less of a pain in the rear to get it to do what I want. Single note pitch bending in a chord would be useful as well.(Go Ensoniq) And a feature called "voice muting" would be great on this keyboard. I hate the fact that I cant transpose keys live without it cutting the voice off. Or just switching between sounds, or from Combo & Program to Global, etc... If someone knows how to do this, please write it in an article for me.
The more I use it, the more I like it. I think people just don't want to learn new things, that's why they don't like it. People that do like it, are learners and they expand their thinking to find solutions to their problems instead of complaining about the gear itself. If you want my personal opinion about what keyboard you should get live... get a Triton ProX, a Roland and a Yamaha for the piano sounds. But if you just want one keyboard, sell everything you have and get the Triton!

Guys, why you buy a synth? Very likely, because of its sounds.
(at least some of you :)
Toch schreen... Imagine buying a nicely looking big-screen
TV for $2399, bringing it to home, plugging it in and discovering, that
that it is a radio made look like a big screen TV. Hah?
Korg had a nice start: M1, O1W (this is a killer). They also
developed X, N, T, i series. They were much worse in terms
of sound. N264/364 is a joke.
Than Trinity appeared. This is a better sounding
keyboard, than previous were.
But again, 32 voices poly make it a low-grade stuff.
Trinity has a terrible piano, what makes sence: check sound
engine.

Now Triton. IMHO It's a fake. As in the previous review of Triton,
I'd like to mention, that the sounds sound Casio-like without
the FX-unit. Don't let to full you by the FX-treated sounds:
if the original sound is cheap, no FX can truly fix it! It'll seem
like FXs make a nice sounds out of Triton's samples, but whole
composition falls apart! Guess why?
Again, check out built-in piano patch or the piano on piano card:
they are far from reality. Sound engine issue again.

I was going to buy a Triton and I didn't! I'm so happy,
you simply cannot imagine. I bought a XXXXXX instead.

price you get 128MB sample memory, _64_ voice poly (yeah, 64,
not 24 or 48 :) , rack-grade

The sound kills you. I often skip using FX.
(On Triton you'll by high and DRY :) if your FX board is dead.
Keyboard action- the best in the world. A 0.5Mb sample can
sound full and caress your ears on this unit. Even without FX.

In comparison with sounds XXXXXX, Triton's best is "1".

I'm no longer a Korg fun. Bye-bye, Korgy. You lost your valuable
customer :)

I owned N364 keys. And I know people owning various Korg stuff:
no way to destroy it :) Triton has the same reputation.

Editing patches seems easy enough. Available filters are rather pathetic for a $2.3k machine, though.
The manual is well-written and of appropriate technical complexity, despite what others here seem to complain.
I wonder why you ask how presets sound in an "Ease of Use" section.

The keyboard action is above-average for a synth keyboard. Korg's "weighted" keyboards have never impressed me, so I only considered the 61-key Triton.
The built-in effects are quite good, and as you come to learn, are at the hear of what makes the Triton sound good, when it does happen to sound good.
Again, a unit of this price should have SCSI standard. Otherwise, expansion options are decent and well-priced.
The onboard sequencer seems to be quite powerful, although I use Logic where there is no comparison.
Again, filters are laughable and they have an odd sound to them. Does anyone agree?

There are a few interesting presets, but the most important thing to realize is that this machine is quite dull without its effects processing.
I encourage all to carefully examine the sounds dry; this machine is a wholly average synthesizer masquerading as something 'revolutionary' and unique.
If you are looking for something to generate rare, intriguing sounds, continue past the Triton.
I get so much more satisfaction with what I hear out of my CS6x/S80/EX5. The Triton
is perhaps equivalent to my JV-1080s.

If this will be your only keyboard in a kit and you do not intend to use your computer, perhaps the Triton is a smart choice.
But that's what I think is so telling - the Triton, perhaps speaking with only slight hyperbole, is a glorified consumer-grade synthesizer for the all-in-one crowd.

I just don't think it should be taken seriously in sound design. Your Trinity is not worth giving up.

This machine wins for Korg because the hype was successful in sustaining +$2200 price point - a number so disproportionate to quality in this instrument's case.

It was an impulse buy for me, and in the context of my entire kit, the Triton is somewhat of a distraction that is not too useful.

I use v2.0.2. I still confuse about editing patches on Trinity, but now I can on Triton. The manual is so complete but it's little hard to understand (because of its technical term)

It's 62 polyphony. I wonder why it's not 64 polyphony like X5D, N364 or else? However, the difference of 2 polyphony doesn't matter at all. The effects it so vary and easy to use. The sequencer is great, but not as great as Cakewalk (of course!).

The instruments is very realistic. Its multisamples are much better than Trinity's. I think it's the contrary of what Joe Kaye has write about Triton pro.

It's so good keyboard. It's the best keyboard which I ever have. The quality (sounds, seqs) is much above Trinity. Actually I don't like Trinity, it's because the multisamples is so bad and I'd prefer O1/W rather than Trinity. But when I saw Triton, I found that this keyboard is much better than Trinity. This is one of the keyboards I like beside O1/W and T3 and X5D. I only miss the internal harddisk and the sampling which not remains if the power shuts down. I also wonder why the specification rack version of Triton is different and better than Triton. If it were lost or stolen, I think I would buy the rack version of Triton.

62 is fine i'm not complaining. I like the keyboard action it feels nice.
Great effects and love the extenal input for processing through the effects
but not through filters. Wish it had more expansion slots (2 is bit of a
rip off if you ask me). Tons of midi capabilities yet getting it to
respond takes some trial and error. I like sequencer..NOW. I didn't at first. Individual looping
of tracks is superb and 200,000 notes is beautiful. To be honest I didn't like the board for about 3 months. It just
sat around collecting dust. Then I decided to delve into it and now
after a couple of months I'm starting to find the sweet spots. It just
wasn't funky enough at first. The sampling is where this board shines
cause it can be any synth you want, obviously. There are pre-programmed
arp patterns and you can also program your own...excellent! Knobs, slider,
ribbon controller can be assigned to control anything...great! You can overwrite the
presets in any bank, a most excellent feature. All-in-all a really cool
board.

Um, I personally don't like the factory sounds too much. Tweaking is the
key to finding your sweet spot on this board. The sampling is where
this board comes to life. The filter section takes some getting use to.
You sort of make adjustments for lowpass, highpass filters instead of choosing
different filters. The effects are great; with certain samples you can
actually distort the output with the effects(EXCELLENT!). The key to getting
the sound you need is in the filter scaling of the sound. Piano, eh!!
Electric piano, eh!!! CS2X and Yamaha S80 have best elect. pianos. String
sounds are some of the best I'v ever heard from factory presets. With
the sampling this board is capable of chameleon like behavior. If you
want your demos to sound professional this is the ax to get.

Yeah, for right now. Not the sturdiest board ever built. I would use
it on a gig sans backup.

Yeah, I would buy it again. I wouldn't own 2 but I would buy it again.
I've been playing for about 15 years and I still don't sound like
Beethoven or Herbie Hancock or Joe Zawinul or Chopin or....
I hated the cold sound of Korg products and this board. Take away the
effects and you got something to work with in this particular machine.
I've compared it to other products concerning sound and features and take my word
for it: "This is THE PHATTEST SOUNDING INSTRUMENT OUT THERE!!" I've
played with them all (Novas, Waldorfs, Rolands, Yamaha, Kurzweil etc.) nothing
comes close. Get this and learn it, sample your analog gear and emphasize
the velocity and filter scaling and it just puts the rest of those
virtual cashalogs to shame. The only exception is the CS2X. The filters
are more intense than anything else out there.

Building on the groundbreaking Touchscreen of the Trinity (how much easier can it be than to touch the thing?!) Korg has significantly improved the interface in small areas which make a big difference. For example in Sequencer mode the channels now have labels for those of us who can't count to 16. Oh, and make sure you check out the new FX section - it simply is unrivelled in anything I've seen for intuitiveness!

The features on the Triton are, of course, enormous. However there is always room for improvement and I hope that future OS upgrades will deliver. The onboard sequencer, while light years ahead of any other synths I've used, doesn't quite deliver as much flexibility as computerised sequencers. That said, I'd much rather use the onboard sequencer any day as it is extremely well integrated into the OS, and Korg are to be commended for the amount of power they're squeezed into every aspect of this little silver beast!!!

The sounds are - in typical Korg style -refreshing, groundbreaking and realistic. I recently used the Trumpet patch at a Carols by Candlelight gig and people can up to see who the new trumpeter was! The accoustic guitars are about as close as I think they'll ever get (come back to me on that one in a few years time though!) and the synths and mind-blowing!!! What types of music does it work well for? You name it, with 11 banks, MOSS, add ins etc etc there are at least a hundred of everything you could dream for! The response of some of the instruments too will simply blow you away.

Solid. Reliable. Definately not delicate. The only thing that has gone wrong with it on a gig has been the local power station blowing up - I'll let you make your mind up on that one. (for the record, the Triton only consumes 26 watts)

Musiclink (who distribute these things here in Australia) are great to deal with. They don't muck you about.

If it were stolen I would cry - simply this is the best Keyboard around. I'm still paying for it now, and believe me they're not cheap. But it is well worth it. I've compared it to everything and it seems as though Roland, Yamaha, Alesis, Kawa...etc, etc have just given up trying to match this kind of power in the workstation market.

I am using the 61 keys version of the Triton V2.0 for about a month now, ans I have to say that it is a very intuitive instrument considering its enormous possibilities. As an Electronic/Dance/Hip Hop producer who works only on hardware (no computer!) I really use all the sections of this instrument (synth, sampler, sequencer), and being used to menu based editing/working I did not have too many problems with the triton. But it may be a little harder for someone less experienced because the manual is not very easy to understand and so i did not use it very often and tried to get around the instrument by myself. The big touch screen display helped me very much and after some time I found myself trying to touch some elements on the display of a Yamaha QY700 sequencer! I really don't need a software editor for the Triton.

For rather minimalistic electronic music the polyphony of the Triton is more than enough. Being not a trained live keyboarder I don't need the keyboard action of the ProX models. The built in effects are excellent and the routing is both easy and flexible. The ability to expand the sound ROM, synthesis (MOSS) and the RAM (Sampler) makes this a very flexible production tool for a long time. The groove features of the sequencer (arpeggiators, pattern play, loop play) makes this one of the best on board sequencers.

The synthesizer sounds of this keaboard are excellent! The midi clock synced LFOs make them best suited for modern dance music. Some of the nature instruments are not very realistic (e.g. the guitars) but in my opinion it is always better to record a real guitar or trumpet (or to use sapled phrases) than using cheesy keaboard immitations. I never heard a keaboard with realistic guitar sounds! The Triton works very well for dance music and with the ability to expand its ROM and RAM it can work for many music styles. The quality of the onboard effects is very good, I think you can compare them with the Roland COSM effects. The real time controllers (knobs, joystick, ribbon controller) are heavily used for the preset sounds and give you instant possibilities to tweak and modulate the sounds.

I never had a problem with the Triton V2.0 and therefore I think it is a very stable and reliable instrument!

Fortunately I never had to contact the customer support and therefore the only thing I can talk about are updates. Version 2 was a big thing especially for the sampler (time slice for drum loops) and one of the main reasons for me to buy this instrument! I hope they go on like this.

I definitely would buy this instrument again. I sold a hardware sequencer, a sampler and a sound module to be able to buy the Triton and it was worth it. I am able to work on only one instrument and to save all song/sound/sample data in one file! I don't need to back up files of many instruments/samplers. With its great (and expandable) sounds and the helpful sequencer (packed with groove features) it will be my main instrument for quite a time!

This is the main point of my input, as a reply to all those who say that the triton is made of plastic, and mostly as a reply to the last trinity reviewer that sad that the tritin was a piece of shit i can tell u all with no regrets that u are a bunch of ignorants who don't know the difference between metal and plastic!

The only plastic on this board is keys, side pannels, and the buttons.
The front and bottom pannel IS made of metal!!!!!!!
The only complaint is that the side pannels are not as sturdy as the ones on the trinity.

I have been out of the music scene for years and recently decided to dive back in. After reading reviews posted here and other places I decided on the Korg Triton. The last keyboard I purchased was a Vox and Yamaha SK30 (am I giving away how long I have been away or what?!?)I love this monster! At first I was a bit trepid because I thought I would have to read and learn from the manuals before turning it on...the manuals would make good kindling...It was far easier to just plug in and start in the playing mode and go for it! Presets are good and bad (just like other boards I tried)

At this point (3 months in) I am still poking around my board and learning...The sequencing seems a little daunting according to the manual..again, good kindling. I am dissapointed that it takes floppies. Keyboard action is very pleasing. I feel the expansions capabilities are going to keep me busy for awhile into the future. The touchscreen is cake for tweaking the presets.

I love certain presets more than others...I found I had to tweak the pianos but they are passable. The drums keep me busy due to their realistic sounds. Some of the combi banks are cheesy at best. I found changing the presets so easy. I mostly do techno/metal/nonsense...Effects are nice. I would have liked to see more nonsense noise..but how many people need the sound of mice throwing up in their music..So I make my own.

No problems thus far. I start playing out next month, this will be my main board. I feel that going anywhere without backup is a little loony. For opening gigs no problem but for headliners....INSANE..I would sooner take along a Casio (can you laugh any louder?!?)than take a chance on equipment problems without backup.

Have not played out with it yet so I have not had the opportunity to throw it around, wonder why it doesnt work and then call customer service.

Worth the $$$$. I looked at Roland but due to the customer reviews concerning customer support I nixed that idea. The kurzweil is sweet but expensive. I like the large touchscreen compared to other manufacturers. I can use it in the dark no problems. If this board would be stolen I would HUNT YOU DOWN AND DO DAMAGE TO YOU WITH MY STILETTO HEELS.

2.0 software. The presets are typical Korg; pretty impressive, but I generally don't use presets. Editing patches is very easy because of the touchscreen. Very deep synth engine. Manual might not be very helpful if you're a newbie.

Polyphony is lower than some synths, but far greater a number than I will ever use, so I don't really care. Built in fx are top notch, best I've heard on any synth. 128 megs of RAM would be nice, instead of just 64, but I rarely use 64 anyway. I bought this synth to function as a midi controller and a sampler. I play and sequence my Access Virus b with it, I tweak my Boss VF-1 fx unit in realtime with the Triton's knobs. I was able to sell a Kenton Control Freak, E-mu e6400, and a Trinity because the Triton does the jobs of all of them in one convenient package.

Some of the acoustic sounds are convincing, some are not. The pianos suck. On the other hand, the drums are spectacular. Some good pads too. Typical glassy-smooth wispy Korg sound. Doesn't seem to get as meaty as some other synths.

Only had it for a couple of months, seems to be a bit less fragile than the Trinity.

I would definitely buy it again if it were stolen. Considering a brand new Trinity Plus was $3500, $2400 for a Triton with more features is a steal. Once I got rid of all the other gear that the Triton replaced, it was such a breath of fresh air to use that wonderful, easy interface. I do not miss my old stuff at all. I can't think of any other features I'd want in the Triton.

Currently using version 2.0 software. The preset sounds are fantastic. Editing patches can be a chore but rewarding. The manuals are one of the worst that I have come across although I think Korg learned from it by supplying a really good short manual with the downloaded OS 2.0 files.

Polyphony is excellent. Keyboard action and response is just right. Built in effects are superb and highly configurable. Expansion capabilities are excellent although I miss the hard disk recording SCSI board. New PCM sample boards sound fantastic - shame there's only 2 slots. Tons of MIDI options although I sometimes feel and hear that the sequencer doesn't seem to keep time accurately on occasion - especially during 'heavy' sequences. On board sequencer is very good - quite flexible but memory space. The onboard sampler saves you about #1000 - it is up there with samplers from EMU and Akai although exporting sample options are limited to Korg's own format.

Most of the patches are realistic when used properly with the supplied effects. Strings are very accurate. Piano sounds far better when used with Damper settings in effects mode. Most kinds of music can be played on the Triton although Rock isn't really well suited to it. Onboard effects are excellent. Modulation options are incredible - using aftertouch with the ribbon controller can produce some wonderful results.

Reliability is excellent although MIDI timing seems to be questionable.

The Triton is a versatile keyboard. I almost plumped for a Yamaha EX-5 as 128 note polyphony was immense. However, the Triton is a highly configurable piece of kit and sounds far better. I've used it for almost 9 months and I still haven't explored all its facilities. I just wish Korg had carried over the Hard disk SCSI option and produced a more friendly manual. Piano patch is a bit weak so I've sampled my Concert patch from the SGproX. The Triton definitely inspires you to create and play music.

Software 2.0. The presets are much better then the presets of the Trinity. I remember a guitar that was a catastrophy and also the piano in the TRiton is much better. It's very versatile, flexible. And whatever you do in music (techno, pop. rock, jazz, classical) it's wonderful! I don`'t need a path editor... The manual is the worst I ever had. But it's not hard to handle with the Triton, it explains itself...

The keyboard action is much better than in other synths. I've been playing Roland as long as I can remember. Now I sold all my Roland keys and play only a Triton. Good keys! Polyphony is standard (remember the Trinity 31-polyphony!). The effects are marvellous! Best I ever heard in a Synth! The piano exp.board is not as good as I expected! But still much better then the most expensive samples I bought for my samplers a few years ago... The sequencer in combination with the arpeggiator is very good for every pre-production. And easy to use.

All instruments are good - very good! Like a very good sampler but with much more possibilites because of the arpeggiator and specific modulations! All are very expressive! The best internal sounds of any synth I ever heard! That's because they are really new! Not like Roland or Yamaha, where you find always the same ...

I don't need any backups. You can absolutely rely on your Triton. It's my only Synth on the stage (combined with a YAMAHA P80).

I would buy it again, and again, and again! I can say I played nearly every kind of Synth in the last fifteen years. None of them made me as happy as the Triton. It was love at the first sound! I would like Korg to think about a new expansion board with more classical orchestral sounds and even a better piano exp.board!

(OS version2) The manual is a little confusing, but the keyboard is pretty straight forward to use, and with a little time spent exploring, you find theis keyboard so easy to use. Some of the preset sound might never be used, but that doesn't matter, cos you can always go and edit them.

This keyboard has a massive features list, it would have been nice to have more midiports on the back, and perhaps a digital out/in port as well.

The voices overall are v.good, there are a few rubish ones, but some of them are just amazing, perhaps the piano is one of the most lacking catorgories, but I wouldn't say they were terrible.

I have emailed Korg UK twice so far, about advice on the best scsi hardware for the Triton, and they have always replyed within the hour, superb...

If this baby was stolen, I would get another, my worst problem with this machine is it's weight, after carring it up and down the stair of my flat (4 stone) +stand, plus speakers amp and mixer, it feels bloody heavy, I hate to think about the weight of the pro X, also in its case it only just fits in the boot of my car...

This is, hands down, the most user-friendly workstation I have ever encountered. Granted, I owned a Trinity before and was already comfortable with it. The operating system is so intuitive, I've hardly opned the manual.

I'll refer people to other reviews or Korg.com to get the specs. They are impressive. I do wish there were at least an option to add digital outputs, and why couldn't expansion card sounds been given their own banks? Overall, the features are excellent, and the few shortcomings I mentioned have been addressed in the rack version.

The patches included are dazzling, and most of the traditional instruments samples are very relistic. Thanks to the Triton's sampling capability, if there's a sound you like that is not included, you can add it. The effects are also excellent.

I sell keyboards at a major retailer a few days a week, and know that the Triton has been rock solid on reliability. A higher percentage of the first batch had some glitches, but all of that seems to have been addressed. Other than units defective out of the box, none have come back for repairs.

ALSO THE ROLAND JP8000 AND NORD MODULAR ARE GREAT KEYBOARDS TO THINK ABOUT PURCHASEING BUT AS FAR AS SAMPLE BASED KEYBOARDS GO, THE TRITON IS THE KING IN MY BOOK.

Touch screen is a dream and faster updating that Trinity. Very powerfull but quick to learn.

Sounds are incredible. They give you a starting point and you can tweak them very easy if you like.

Have been playing the same one since day one of its release and it still performs perfectly.

If you know how to get a hold or korg they are very good. The process for a begiiner could be frustrating if you need to talk to them.

I'll make this short and sweet, I work at a music store and play all the different boards out there. The bottom line is this.... For the money and quality you can not and will not do better than the triton. Forget about Roland, Kurzweil, Yamaha and all others this is the best value out there now.

Best global features I've ever had on a board (well, I have to say I just worked with an excellent but old dated Sy 77). I hope to install as soon as possible the MOSS board and/or a PCM expansion.

Great atmospherics, pads, motions synths, fx, strings, drums. Very bad piano (even the SY 77 piano is more realistic). Fantastic double and programmable arpeggiator. Very good sampler. Excellent effects: Vocoder is terrific if properly used.

I have grown bored with most of the sounds. I worked in a music store for a while and got sick of most of the sounds. I primarily use it as a sampler.

As new synths go, I think that the Triton is the best thing out there. You can create just about anything you could ever think of from this box. If the sound is not stock, and you cannot create it, you can sample it, or add the moss and you have great analog sound. This keyboard almost makes it too easy. It was definatly worth the price the consumer pays. I was lucky to go to training on this piece just as it came out in '99 and I found that it was too easy. Easy to keymap, make templates, easy storage-and the touch screen is much better than the Trinity. The only thing I don't like about it is that I do not use the onboard sequencer that often and I had a problem with changing banks from my computer. Otherwise, it is one of the best modern synths on the market today.

It's pretty easy, I've owned a Trinity for awhile, so I can pretty much navigate around it pretty well. The presets are awesome, I agree that the pianos are thin, but the sampler will help fix that. I havent really taken a look at the manuals, again, it's pretty much the same as the Trinity as far as the interface goes. But deeper into this board, there is a world of difference..........

The polyphony isnt where it should be for a keyboard of this caliber, can we have 128 please??? The affects are great, I have to take a look though and tweak the rotary speaker. Expansion slots are few to say the least two?? Come on.....Roland has 4, and that is not enough to me. Too bad the MOSS board has only 6 voices, I havent played on it yet, but I hear it is great for only 6 voices. The sequencer is basically the same as the Trinity's, a little easier, I havent messed with it much......

DAMN!!!!! Sounds are really really great, and I love the ability to tweak them with the knobs, and in the arpeggiator you can program drum beats that are just slamming. I especially like the BrassReed sections and the organs...the knob/drawbar effect was a smart idea. With added polyphony (still could be more) it handles the Trinity easily.

I have never had to call Korg, I've had an X5D, have a Trinity and now a Triton, but I have never had to call in the past.

If it was lost, I'd cry, cause I dont have insurance on it yet.....but after I got insurance, I'd replace it in a heart beat.

Presets are very good, but I just got it and have'nt had time to edit any. The manual is massive but probably not very helpful. I have to experiment like I did on the O1WPRO.Again I am very pleased with what I have heard thus far.

I love the keyboard action compared to roland etc. The effects are very good and I can add memory and boards to expand the keyboard. I have not tried the sequencer yet (just got it in the mail) but I am sure it will be fine..

Guitars are very good in my opinion the effects really make a big difference. velocity is excellent and the aftertouch does very well. I mainly use it in a church setting, but I have had oppoertunity to use many presets and be very expressive.I don't need a volume pedal to quiet it down, just play softer...

I have had a Korg O1WFD, aO1WPRO and Trinity before getting this keyboard. I have had no problems with them with the exception of loose solder outputs on the Trinity. I had it re-soldered and it works great...I have never had trouble with keys, program locks, or anything else VERY reliable equipment

I bought the 61 key version with Moss Board, and keyboard/Piano upgrade and also the Studio Essentials board I would replace it if it were stolen or dropped (I carry a rider for my equipment on my homeowners insurance). I looked at Kurzweil, Alesis, Roland and many others before deciding to buy Triton. It may sound like I only buy Korg, but I also have a Yahama EX5R rack, and have owned other brands in the past.

All the sounds are great except brass and choir.
The guitar sounds are quite good for a synth,
The organ sounds are the best I'v heard in my life.
Piano is not bad - but not fantastic, drums are fine.
The effects are fine, get the job done.

I can depend on it, it's really good in this subject.

I live in Israel and the service here is excellent.

If it were lost or stolen I would buy the TRITON PRO X instead.
It really helps me to make my music better.

Easy to edit samples

I'm using software version 1.10 sent to me by a Korg sales rep. Theres has been a real problem that Korg has been unable to solve. The problen is the reliabilty of the playback of samples that I use in live performances. Three times I have had the samples come out at different pitch/speed....embarassing not to mention the fact that I spent ny hard earned dough on a unrealiable unit. Korg has no solution so beware.

Polyphony is 62 plus 6 MOSS and in my opinion is very limited for this kind of synth (price !). 128 voices would be a more realistic number. The onboard sequencer is excellent though not so powerful as a software or a dedicated hardware unit. MOSS idea is nice with good polyphony for a lead synth part. Expansion via SCSI,MOSS,PCM boards is excellent but i would like to see more PCM boards. The effects as well as their external route is in one word EXCELLENT and it is the main reason i bought Triton. The keyboard feel is very good.

Sounds are very good except pianos that are useless. I have the extra EXB-PCM01 board witch has some nice pianos but not as realistic as Roland's extras or Yamaha's S80. I'm a rock ballad, cine-music song writer. I usually play soft rock,jazz,modern pop,soundtracks and i need realistic - acoustic organs as well as warm strings. I found Triton's sound very good, but static as the synth engine is far away from able to create new sounds. Roland's synthesis methode is my favorite (for S&S synths) but even Yamaha's witch is like Korg is better. Limited filtering,only two waves per sound,no ring modulator,limited envelope editing,nice LFOs.
The sampler idea in a sample playback synth is excellent and i think that is THE POINT that Korg bets. It is not as powerfull as EMUs or other dedicated unit but sounds perfect. It has no internal resampling, the samples cannot be exported, limited editing functions, no Flash RAM so you need the SCSI board to save anything more than 1.44 MB. These limitations and some bugs will be corected (i hope) in the future OS 2.0 version.

I don't know yet as i own it for a month only. It crashed twice due to OS bugs. I dislike the plastic cheap case and construction.

I have my own studio 20 years now. I have EMU e-synth keyboard,Proteus 2K,Audity, Roland XP-80, JV2080s, Yamaha S80,FS1Rs, etc. I bought Triton a month ago and here in Greece the price for a full unit (SCSI,MOSS,PCMs,RAM) is very high: 4.500 ECU. I had read many user reviews about it so i thought that Triton is the best synth around. Believe me IT IS NOT. If stolen then i will cry for my money not for it. I am a quality - realistic sound - synth engine fan and not a technostressed buyer who wants anything new with big lcd. Recently and after i bought Triton i listen a preview-demo version of new Roland XV-88. That is THE sound. I order one and im waiting for it early April. Until then i'm looking locally to sell Triton.
Do not ever listen user reviews. Even mine. Listen yourself. Thing what you really want from a synth and try to find this one you really want.

I am Using Software Version 1.1.1. It is extremely simple to learn, and the touch screen makes it a joy to use. I have only needed to consult the manual a couple times and it is reasonably good.

The extremely large feature set is why I bought this Keyboard. I was looking for a keyboard that had both analog emulation and digital synthesis, which this does if you own the MOSS Board. On top of those synthesis methods you also get Korgs Physical Modeling and a built in sampler. Along with all of that you have the standard aftertouch, velocity sensitive keyboard as well as plenty of real time modulating devices(knobs, joysticks, etc). The Triton also has an On-Board Sequencer which is convenient to use when setting up instrument configurations you want to quickly recall, however if you are planning to record you songs with this it is still far short of a software synth.

The sounds on this thing are extremely diverse and all very good quality, with the possible exception of the Acoustic Pianos. Standouts in the Sounds can be found in almost every category including Drums, Organs, Winds, Brass, Strings, and plenty of otherworldy and classic Synth sounds. The MOSS board is amazing if you are looking for analog emulation, it is very tweakable and everytime you play with it you find something else you can modify. To my ears the MOSS board sounds great, eventhough I have heard some complaints that the filters were to "digital" sounding. Not only did Korg do an excellent job at putting together the various synthesis systems but they also added a KILLER effects processor on the top. This really sets some of the sounds you can make with synth apart from any other, because some of the effects are so amazing! I havent used the Sampler very much as I am still caught up with the On Board sounds, but from what I hear it is far above average for a built in sampler, and I believe Version 2.0 will have many new features here.

On a High level I have had no problems what so ever with reliability. However there are a number of small bugs in the software, that I and others I have spoken to are experiencing. These surround saving Instument selections in the sequencer. You can certainly work around this if you are using an external sequencer but they will annoy you one way or the other. The construction of the keyboard itself is solid, but not something you would coin as rock solid.

This is my first real synth and I am very glad I choose this one. If you are looking for ONE synth that can provide you with most of the popular synthesis forms and do so in a refreshing and elegant manner then you wont go wrong with this synth. This synth is as much a Workstation as a synth can be. Read the reviews in Sound on Sound(UK magazine) and Keyboard and you will believe me.

The touch screen interface is greatly improved over the Trinity's. Very quick, responsive and intuitive. This keyboard is a joy to use.

I'm pretty sure it will wash your car! All kidding aside, the Triton has 62-note polyphony, a 16-track sequencer, sampling and vocoding capability, 2 master and 5 stereo insert effects, 6 outputs and lots of expandability. Can't beat it.

If you like the Trinity sound, you'll love the Triton. Very realistic accoustic emulations coupled with richly textured synth sounds. The drums and brass are punchy and the strings and voice patches are lush.

The sounds are all high quality, 48 kHz samples.

I have had the Triton for 2 months now and am starting to get into it! My software version is 1.85. Refer to my previous review regarding the sounds/presets. I only wish to say that some of the Trinity's waveforms which I liked are missing- but this is a different instrument after all!! The operating system is excellent- I have hardly referred to the manual!!!!

Refer to my previous review regarding what I wrote about the Triton's features. I have gotten into using the onboard sequencer for a couple of songs. It is easy to use and offers a reasonable amount of editing functions for a workstation sequencer. Refer below for what I want improved.

The sounds are awesome- However I find it strange that Korg skimped on the flexibility of the filter- the Trinity's filters were more flexible offering more types not only low and high pass filtering. The effects are fantastic and easier to get around than those in the Trinity. Again refer to what I want improved below.

I will be taking mine back to the repair centre as I hear an annoying high pitched sounds coming out of all my outputs- it is a fault of the instrument. Also the Triton is no as well built as the Trinity. It has a plastic case that is very easy to scratch! It's touch screen feels better to operate than the Trinity's however.

I really like this instrument! Let me say that loud and clear. I would definetly get another one if it were lost or stolen. I have gone back to using it as my only sound source on a few projects. However Korg must upgrade the operating system in a number of important areas-

a). SAMPLER- Allow us to use all 64MB at once instead of chopping it up into 4, 16MB chunks.
b). ADD INTERNAL RESAMPLING- THIS IS ESSENTIAL!!!!!!!
c). ADD TIMESTRETCHING.
d). ADD CROSSFADE LOOPING.
e). ALLOW US TO FILTER/ENVELOPE INDIVIDUAL SAMPLES instead of having to convert multi-samples to programs.
f). Vastly improve the disk operating system for storing samples.
g). Allow us to use flash RAM in the Triton.

SEQUENCER- a). ADD MORE QUANTIZING FUNCTIONS- Groove and Swing quantising at least. We are in the year 2000 not 1984 Korg!!!!
b). CUE LISTS- Don't let sounds cut off when going from one song to another. Allow user to set up at which bar or bars songs with start playing. This would allow us to automatically shorten songs when we need to do this. Also Korg, look at C-Lab's old Notator Sequencer and it's pattern mode.
c). Allow the sequencer to record system exclusive information.
d). Allow 'multi track' as well as single track patterns such as in Rolands XP series sequencer.

SYNTHESIS- a). Upgrade the filters to those of what the Trinity had. Why Korg skimped here is beyond me!
b). Allow more than 2 expansion boards to be used- perhaps those not fully expanding the sample Ram to 64MB could use that space to add 1 or 2 more boards.
c). Allow more synthesis parameters to be applied to individual drum sounds.
d). Release CD ROM versions of PCM expansion boards for those who already have the 2 PCM slots filled up and own a CD ROM drive.
e). Whilst a hardware upgrade, give us the option to add something like an internal hard drive or Zip drive for mass storage.

Anyway, I hope Korg is listening to all it's users. Particularly with regards to sampling, Korg need to remember that they are competing with EMU, AKAI and YAMAHA who have some wicked samplers out there with features that the Triton must have added as mentioned above. LETS HOPE THAT KORG CONTINUE TO UPGRADE THE TRITON'S OPERATING SYSTEM BY LISTENING TO USER FEEDBACK!!!! If some of the above (most notably, sampler and sequencer features) are added, I would give it an 11 out of 10!!!!

The Korg Triton is best workstation on the market in my opinion. I have owned and borrowed and begged and stealed almost everyone on the market including the Roland XP-80, XP-60, XP-50, MC-505, MC-303,SP-808, Yamaha QY-300,QY-70, and the Korg Trinity. Also for sounds and ease of use I compare to other modules and programs including the Korg X5D, Various casio crap, Cakewalk 6-9, roland SP-202, and JP-8000.
The Triton can easily be compared to the Trinity, Which I have owned and used for over a year. I ate the price difference of the Trion vice my used trinity when I sold it specifically for the EXTRA FEATURES of the trion. Knobs control cut off and resonance which greatly makes dong Crystal Method type stuff a breeze. An accent knob woulda been nice, but hey, you cant always have it your way. Also the "category" feature, allows you to browse sounds by category ofcoarse,..this is very handy. The Trinity did this in program mode only, not in seq mode like the triton. Also you will note the page buttons are gone. Now you just hit the [menu] button and a screen pops up with links to other windows(yes, its actually alot like windows).
If your into Arranging and arppegios then you'll love the triton. It has something called the RPPR which was featured in the N364 and N264 workstations. This can be compared to Rolands "RPS" function. Basically it allows you to play patterns with one key,.they also record the note info of that pattern to a track if desired.
Also there is the programable arpeggiator,...its dual, meaning there can be two steps goin on at once with one apeggio. Its much like Korgs Z1 arpeggiator only the interface is much better. Theres a huge graphic display of what not is where just like on a computer sequencing program. Its also very easy to design an arpeggio that is actually a drum pattern. You can really get some interesting and unexpected grooves goin like this by pressing random keys when applying an arpeggio to a drumkit.
I do wanna WARN YOU,..if you are a newbie the the manual will kick your ass. There is no way an inexperianced person will walk away from the manual knowing everything. You are sure to giveup and wind up letting this thing collect dust,..perhaps everyonce in a while powering it up to impress your freinds. If you are a veteran Trinity owner you will work your way through the manual in a week or less. If you have serious workstation knowledge of something comperable to the XP series then you should be halfway through it in a couple of weeks. If this is your first workstation but you have experience with midi and sorta know what your doin then you can expect to be a triton expert in approx. 2 months. If you Listen to NIN and expect to become the next Trent Reznor then continue Riding your skateboard or find another hobby.
Again, this is the easyest and best out there for the pro musician wanting complete workstation.

PS, go ahead and forget that it has a sampler, unless you wanna use it strictly for playback and arranging, the editing capabiltys is something to laff at,..it doesnt even allow internal resampling.

You can read the polyphony and stats on someone elses comments, let me get down to the dirt.

The built in effects are awesome, you will find yourself not editing the sounds much, but rather tweaking out the effects in song mode to get the desired feel. This is great because its faster, and allows you to not have to load a seperate sounds set up(pcg) for each song. The actual effects kick ass too, greatly improved over the Trinity are the BPM effects,...oscillators and delays, as well as flangers and what not now can be effortlessly synced to the bpm of a song. Theres a master 3 band eq aswell that the trinity didnt have. However , the trinity had 8 mono effects(4 stereo), and the triton has only 5 stereo effects, or 5 mono effects,...see where this is going? I kinda prefer the trinitys set up to the tritons, but still look at the other workstations on the market that only allow one insert effect and two masters (yamahas EX5 and Rolands XP-80)
I do have the SCSI and I must admit, its a must. Especially if your composing with samples. the 3.5 holds 1.4 meg and an external zip holds 250Meg,..you do the math. You can expect to pay about $300 for drive and scsi card. Installation is only 10 or so screws,..its so simple a Marine could do it.
Dont forget to max out the RAM for sample time. 64 megs will cost you about $100 bucks. Any 72 pin simm will do, get them at your local computer store, they will know what your talkin about.
I listend to the PCM expantion boards, you can get one with pianos and strings, some chorus sounds are available too,..I suggest that you get good at sound editing and just use the ones built into the board. They sounds "amazingly similar" to the preset Multisamples. (korg, who are you trying to fool?)
The MOSS board,.. I played with it for about 15 minutes and realized that I just didnt need those sounds for $450 bucks. If your good with PCM editing then you will work your way around needing that board aswell. I would even buy a used JP-8000 or something similar for the same money. IF your a diehard korg fan then check out the prophecy or the MONOpoly. If you really got a hardon for silver then buy the z1.
The biggest thing about the midi is that everything is controllable with midi, I mean everything. Theres probably even a way to control the frikin screen contrast with midi! Ofcoarse filters, track vol, fx levels, and all those goodies are.
The sequencer is great, you can actually see whats goin on in the track display, perfect if you dont use a computer base program. However there is no way to start record with the press of a key like on the xp-80,..there is no way to copy, paste, erase, any length less than one measure. (there are ways to get around this though)
Despite those two drawbacks, prettymuch the tritons sequencer is the bomb. You can see what midi filters are applied, what zones are set for keys, what track is patched to what effect, Every aspect of a song is visible , no maps or letter designations, its all legible and easy to follow. Also the refresh rate of the screen is almost 3 times faster than that of the Trinity.
Probably the biggest new feature of the tritons sequencer is the loop function. You can assign any portion of any track to loop independantly from any other track. This allows you to get a groove or song idea goin in a matter of seconds.

All sounds sound better than any other module or keyboard on the market,..period. If your an analog junky then even you too should give the triton a whirl,..you will be amazed at its capabilitys.
I though the Trinity lacked for electronic sounds, well, thats cause it did. The Triton is packed with electronic sounds, and the drums, guitar, strings, chorus, and keyboard sounds are as good as ever. Most of the programs are preset to control vol, cutoff, rez, volume, or what not with the ribbon or joystick. You can change whatever you wish to control with any of the knobs aswell too. Like I said, you can control anything with anything. Even switch and pedal inputs.

I have had it lock up once during sequencing, and lock up one other time at powerup. but I have had it since it hit the market in september. I wouldnt recomend droping it off a 3 story building or the back of a gig van either.

Dont expect anyone at the place where you bought the thing to know anything at all about the board. They will shake their heads or even worse tell you something that is incorrect about the board. I have even heard about korg reps being asked questions by salespersons and them being givin the wrong answer. Your best bet is to find a forum.

Its the board you would own if you were traped on a desert island and could only have one keyboard. It is not however ment to replace a dedicated sampler, an actual piano, a software sequencing program, or a Analog synth. Weigh the options with the price, it might not be the board for you, but its the one for me.

I am presently using software version 1.0.8. My presets sound very good after modification. I also purchased the Piano PCM card that added nice colorful sounds to the selection I already had. The manual is a pretty reference to utilize, and I also was able to get started right away sequencing songs!

It has nice polyphony and good keyboard action. The effects are easy to use. I am planning to add the MOSS board, SIMMS for the Sampler, and SCSI board options within the next 30-60 days! I am really impressed with my board so far. However, I wish it had some Rhodes piano sounds! This would have really made it more complete! Although the selection of Tines and EPs are really nice.

The instruments are very good right now, however, I know it will be even better sounding after the MOSS board is installed. I would say that the board is very good for Gospel, HipHop, R&B, POP, Techno, and some Classical aspects. It will definitely depend on which PCM boards are added to expand either types-- also whatever other PCM boards KORG plans to introduce! Also, because of the stereo capabilities I will need to add another Amp.

I've only had it for less than a week right now and it hasn't crashed yet. Hopefully, it will NOT crash at all!

No experience with this area yet even though I presently still own an N364 keyboard from KORG.

I pray that nothing happens to it, I would have to purchase another one! This board is able to do everything that I need right now. Once I get it fully expanded, it will be that much more Da Bomb! All my colleagues presently have XP-80/60/30 boards, and I wanted something outside of Roland that would still give quality sounds and provide the same or better functions/capabilities without sounding the exact same as everyone else.

Manuals are extremely difficult to understand. Step by step guide should
be included for each kind of operation.

Instrument seems well designed. Effects are good. The sequencer is fine.

No problems here, except medicore acoustic piano sounds

As a former Roland user, I'd probably go with Roland again.

Although I have only tested a Triton I think my comments will be helpful. I'm a fair jazz pianist and I was looking to find better conventional sounds than my Korg M1 so I took my M1 to a pianist friend's home where he has a Triton and tried the M1 against the Triton. I was amazed. After how many years is it that the M1 was introduced the sounds are in many cases better than the Triton. We both agreed, the other pianist and myself. We set both keyboards up with identical speakers and tweaked the sounds so they corresponded. The Triton piano is not better, and that's the core sound of most gigging synths. Vibes and guitars are worse, Hammond B3 is a little better. I do know about sounds, particularly piano because I've got a newish Grotrian Steinweg real piano in my home sitting right next to my M1. What have Korg been doing all those years? Perhaps they know their marketing and they sell the Triton for it's facilities. I'm amazed.

I will submit another review in a few months when I have gotten into the guts of the instrument. I just picked up the Triton a few days ago. The presets are typically Korg- huge (like since the M1- I said in my T3 review that the 1st time I played an M1, I though I was going to have a sexual experience with a keyboard! SORRY- I AM NORMAL!) The dual arpeggiators do alot to create interesting textures particularly in combination mode with sounds that are like mini soundracks in themselves! The manuals are above average- nearly as good as my Wavestation manuals but not quite! Korg should get the same author to write ALL their future manuals- So should every other manufacturer for that matter! His name is DAN PHILLIPS. I have used Korg equipment extensively over the last 12 years (I have a special effection for Korg gear as I learn't alot on a Poly 61) so I had no trouble getting around the Triton. The new sampling section is one area which I need to consult the manual for however. The huge touchview screen is almost like a mini computer monitor to me- it feels alot better than my old (sold) Trinity's display.

62 note polyphonic (much better than 32 notes on the Trinity and TR Rack) 68 with the MOSS board (I have this installed). This is very decent and at least it is always 62 notes in single mode (unlike the Yamaha EX5 which changes polyphony dramatically depending on the synthesis being used). I wish the MOSS board had more polyphony but 6 voices is adequate. The keyboard has a nice unweighted feel- nice for quick passages and organ parts- not good for piano- no unweighted keyboard is!!!! It has the best effects system of any synthesizer ever designed- 5 insertion effects, 2 master effects and 1 3 band master EQ. Some say that the Trinity is better here because you can have up to 8 'size 1' effects but in fact the Tritons system is more flexible and easier to use- the 5 insert effect are stereo in stereo out and the sound can be panned anyway when going through the insert effect (unlike the Trinity). The master effects contain 89 effects as opposed to the trinity's 14 effects and the EQ is 3 band as opposed to the Trinity's 2 band EQ. It has every kind of effect imaginable- all high quality- I ran a mic through the Triton's input and the reverb's are much more transparent than I anticipated- I will use this board as another dedicated effects unit!!!! The vocoder will be great and the effects are also MIDI syncable (GREAT!). The Triton can be expanded with 2 PCM expansion boards- ONLY 2!!!!! WHY KORG?????? At least they are user installable and I have the Piano/Keyboards board- I am very fussy with my piano/organ sounds coming from that background and teaching those instruments so I was pleasantly surprised at the patches on this board- These are the first sampled pianos that I would consider using on a serious recording- until now I would preferred to properly mic up a real grand! This is saying something- again this is a very subjective issue! I tried out the orchestral board which is also available, but I didn't think that it sounded any better than what was already in the Triton. I spoke to a Korg rep who said that they will shortly be releasing some Dance/Loop boards- I WILL GET THESE!!!! You can get the 6 voice MOSS board which I have- it is simply(????) the guts of the magnificant Korg Z1 synthe (which I also own). One glaring limitation here is that if you use more than one sound from the MOSS board multi-timbrally, they all go through the same effects!!!!!! THIS IS BULLSHIT KORG- WHY???? This makes the MOSS board much less usefull in a multi-timbral context than it should be. I have the SCSI option which enables you to hook up an external hard drive (I will get a 250MB zip drive when I can afford it). It comes with 16MB of sampling RAM which is expandable up to 64MB- One big limitation here is that you cannot use all 64MB at once- it is broken down into 4 16MB blocks- this is also stupid!!!!
The onboard floppy disk drive loads quite fast. It has a 61 note velocity/mono aftertouch sensitive keyboard, ribbon controller, 4 controller knobs, 3 knobs to control the dual arpeggiators (yes it has two Z1 type polyphonic arpeggiators- can't wait to get into these!), Korg joystick for pitchbend and modulation (X/Y axis) and THANK HEAVEN'S 6 assignable outputs!!!!! Finally, Korg have taken a page from the Roland JV1080/2080 and given us some flexibility in the outputs department. The Triton is 16 part multi-timbral, is able to control up to eight internal or external zones from a combination and supports all the major midi controller numbers using it's real time controllers. It is fully general MIDI compatible (I HATE GENERAL MIDI AND NEVER USE IT!) and reads SMF files 0 and 1 directly from disk (handy for gigging and getting songs of the internet). I used the sequencer in my old Korg T3 to death before I got my Atari and Notator. This took me off hardware sequencers- I didn't use the Trinity's even though it was well laid out (LOGIC IS JUST A BIT BETTER FOR ME!) However, I have decided that I will make an effert to get into the Tr

FUCKING GREAT SOUNDS! That is all I can say as my opening statement. I would use this as my only sound source with no problems. As a matter of fact, I could get buy with just a Triton (and mayby a JV2080) at a pinch if I had to sell all my other gear (WHICH I WILL NOT!!) I don't think too much of the stock acoustic piano although it is better than the other 'stock' offerings in my other bits of gear. That is why I also have the piano expansion board- these sounds are great as far as sampled pianos go! The electric pianos are all fantastic, as are the guitars (both acoustic and electric). The electric basses are also very playable (although the ones on my Roland bass&drums boards are better). The synthe basses rock (or dance!). The strings (both solo and ensemble) are the best that I have heard from a synthe (better than my Roland orchestral expansion board!) Solo trumpet and sax sounds are great for a sample based instrument although I am not a mad fan of the ensembel brass patches (no sample based instrument excells here!) The drums are superb (both electronic and real) This and my TR rack contain the widest variety of drum sounds of any synthe that I have played (although I love the drum sounds in my Roland bass&drum board also!) Bell and percussion sounds are top notch and there is much potential in creating some trully huge choir sounds- I have already started to do some editing. I can honestly say that the Triton (and Trinity and TR Rack) instruments do not sound weak in any particular area- they have a great well rounded sound to them. I like the fact that you can velocity switch up to 4 samples in a program. The filters sound good also (althoug the ones in the Trinity offered extra flexibility by offering more types- not only low and high pass). The LFO's are MIDI syncable, as are the effects (unlike the Trinity). Combination mode contains sound HUGE sounds and as with other Korg instruments since the M1, this area has heaps of scope for building up massive splits and layers with the added flexibility of more polyphony and great effects routing possibilities. NOW IF ONLY THEY COULD MAKE IT 128 note polyphonic? (DOESN"T EVERYONE!!!!). The MOSS sounds are everything you could expect from the Korg Z1 (see my review under it's section) FUCKING FANTASTIC!!!! They shit all over the overpriced analogue modelling synthes out there- again this is only my opinion.

I haven't had it long enough to see whether I might experience problems with it (TOUCH WOOD!).

Music Link (Korg's Australian distributor) has provided excellent and prompt service each time I have dealt with them. I email them quite often now and John McCubberry (I hope I spelt it right) and John Grant are great product reps. Keep up the great work guys!!!!

Of course I would buy it again!!!!! I have been playing since 1980 and also teach piano and organ privately. I co-own a MIDI based studio in Melbourne using LOGIC platimum 4 on PC, a Yamaha O3D mixer (GREAT BOARD) plus assorted Korg and Roland bits. I can see the Triton becoming the centre of the studio. It is basically everything I wanted my old Trinity to be (and I loved that keyboard to death before I sold it!) plus more. A WORD OF ADVICE- if you already own a Trinity and don't need the extra features the Triton offers than hold on to it as they both sound the same- THE TRITON DOES NOT SOUND BETTER OR WORSE! If however you have bought neither, than definetly go for the Triton- the extra features are well worth it! I will repeat this again- I COULD DO ALL MY WORK JUST USING THIS BOARD (and the soon to be released Korg D16 hard disk recorder!!!!). PERHAPS KORG SHOULD TRY TO SELL THE TRITON AND THE D16 AS A SELF CONTAINED HARDWARE RECORDING SOLUTION! (Just add mics, monitors and musical creativety and ideas!) Me being me, I would also use a Roland JV2080 because I love both Roland and Korg sounds. If Korg iron out a few of the issues listed above and bring out heaps of PCM boards, I would rate this synthe an 11 out of 10!!!!!!!! THIS KEYBOARD IS HOT. GO BUY IT!

I'd like to leave a short note about the effecter system. My pesonal opinion is, this effect system is realy good. It has two master(system) effects and five insert effects. You put channels to the insertion effect, instead of putting effects on channels. That means, you can asign any numbers of channels to a insertion effect or a group of insertion effecter. And the variety and quality of effects were pretty cool too. Especialy for the stereo compressor and Hi-gain Overdrive/Wah-Wah, which are my favorites. Using Triton's X-Y controller stick on the Wah-Wah was just full of joy. And the stereo compressor was pretty useful in making drum sounds fat. I would appreciate some more effects like just plain distortion or something like that, though. And five insertion effects are plentyful, but I think it would be really fantastic with about a couple of more insertion effects, like we have on Trinity.

Well, frankly speaking, I don't really like the accoustic sounds on Triton. Like guitar sounds, are totally out of my taste. Though I found that some of the accoutic piano sounds in the Piano ROM, was pretty good when you turn off the preset effects, but in my opinion it only matched well with some modern style music. It might have been better if it included some of the better (and bigger) samples from that SG proX. But, sounds from MOSS option board, were very good with that analog synth taste, and some sounds like electric pianos and some string section, as well as some of the drum set, were pretty useful for me.

This is my second review. I have TRITON for about two months now.
TRITON is very easy to use. Good interface.

SEQUENCER: 1
ONE OF THE VERY SAD THINGS IS THAT THE SEQUENCER DOES NOT RESPOND/RECORD/SEND TO SYSEX MESSAGES. SO ALL THOSE PRO SEQUENCING PEOPLE, STAY AWAY FROM TRITON SEQUENCER. EVEN IF YOU HAD A MIDI FILE WITH SOME SYSEX DATA EMBEDED, THE SEQUENCER WILL NOT SEND IT TO IT'S MDID OUT PORT. SO IF YOU WERE THINKING TO PLAY MIDI FILES OR SEQUENCE ON TRITON FOR YOU SOUND MODULE, YOU MIGHT BE STUCK, AS I AM RIGHT NO. I HAVE A YAMAHA SW1000XG SOUND CARD. I HAVE LOTS OF MIDI FILES WHICH HAVE SYSEX DATA IN THE FIRST MEASURE TO SETUP SW1000XG. WELL GUESS WHAT, THE WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER WILL PLAY IT FINE, BUT TRITON WILL GO CRAZY. IT JUST DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THAT THERE IS SOME SYSEX DATA, AND IT HAS TO SEND IT OUT TO MIDI PORT. I HAVE CONTACTED KORG SEVERAL TIMES COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS. BUT THEY SEEM NOT TO CARE. I DO NOT BELIEVE THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH THIS WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT IT IN THE SPECIFICATION. ALL THEY SAY IS MOST POWERFULL WORKSTATAION. HAHAHA, YEAH RIGHT.

THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE, BECAUSE WITHOUT SYSEX, YOU CANNOT DO REAL CREATIVE STUFF. YOU ARE LIMITED TO ONLY THOSE FEW MIDI CONTROLLER MESSAGES. YOU CAN NOT CONTROL EFFECTS FROM THE SEQUENCER.

SOUND EDITING: 4
DRUM PROGRAMMING IS VERY POOR. THERE ARE ONLY FEW PARAMETERS THAT YOU CAN SET FOR INDIVIDUAL NOTES. I WOULD LIKE TO SET VELOCITY TO CONTROL CUTOFF FOR EACH NOTE, ALSO PANNING CAN NOT BE RANDOM FOR EACH NOTE. SO THE DRUMS ARE NOT REALLY EXPRESSIVE AND LIVE.
ACTUALLY, TRITON'S SYNTH ENGINE IS PRETTY BASIC. I WISH IT WAS UPTO PAR WITH XP/JV SYNTHS.

GREAT EFFECTS, I WISH THEY WERE CONTROLLABLE VIA SYSEX IN SEQUENCER.

EVERYTHING OTHER THAN ACUOSTIC PIANO IS NICE!!

A GOOD OVERALL WORKSTATION/SAMPLER. BUT DO NOT BE CAUGHT IN ALL THE HYPE IT HAS. MAKE REALLY SURE THAT YOU DO NOT NEED THE FEATURES THAT IT IS MISSING.

I just got my silver machine versin 1.06 (updating soon).the overall quality
kicks butt. it sounds great.Just let me say here,i read complaints about the
unusual low ended presets,the machine was made to manipulate, hence the wonderful
fx section.so you have the options of adding desied highs to presets and later
to the master fx....win either way.
Editing is very easy, due to the mini television screen it has....it's absoluty great
for musicians who play often on darken stages.
The manual appears to be in some kind o hyroglphic script...enough said on that...

Great expandability, even though they're behind Roland in this repect

The seq.is well done,not as seriously endowed in comparission to VST,
opcode..etc. the keyboard action is superb, not perfect, but good.....

As regardiung the sounds, the A001 piano isn't as bad as some would
have it, not a steinway but it is decent for ensemble work only...no

I always say,bell and whistles don't make good synths,it's the sounds.
The pad and motion synths were hot. the bass, guitars, and some mallets
are also super...........this apperegio function is good for lazy
people like myself. The strums of guitars, the run of synths, and the
bleeps and bops with this class for having overall,the soudns are
great, the motion synths especially

Ok, about the overall sounds: TRITON is a dark sounding instrument, it's not bright like Roland or Yamaha. The presets will sound very good if you have a high end audio monitors, but when you play the same from ordinary speakers, like most people do when they listen to music, TRITON sounds dull. And you can confirm this by the fact that most of the preset sounds have heavy use of EQ, without that EQ TRITON sounds have too much low frequencies, that disappear in ordinary speakers. Although you can make it sound a little brighter, it's time consuming to change all presets.
Editing patches is pretty easy, you have lot of control on the sound, but not as much as I have seen on other synths. For example, can use two waveforms to make a patch, but they share one pitch envelope. So if I wanted to create a patch with one sound going up and other going down and finally meet or harmonize each other, I couldn't do that in TRITON. However, there are still lot of things you can play with to change patch.
The thing I like about TRITON is that, the presets are user writeable, so if you don't like it, change it and it will stay like that.

There are two manuals, one is User guide and other parameter guide. they are both great, the labeling of topics match with the screens on screen.

The touch screen is great, but use your nails instead of finger tips if you want to avoid multiple touches for the same thing.

Keyboard action is great, but it's kind of noisy when you strike the key hard, there is a little rumble sound from the keyboard body.
it's expandable, you can add more sound boards. the ones that are out now, aren't too impressive. I heard they are coming out with two more, dance and hip hop pretty soon. and a third one in plan, orchestral. I would like to see an Ethnic/Indian baord.
Sampling memory can expanded from 16 to 64MB.

OK, MIDI capabilities.
If you are looking for a good master keyboard for your midi modules, please DO NOT consider TRITON.
reasons:
1. The on-board sequencer DOES NOT RECORD OR SEND SYSTEM EXLUSIVE DATA. so if you wanted to store the modules settings in the sequence for a song, you couldn't with TRITON. However, you can use TRITON as a midi data filer. But then you will have as many files as number of modules for each song.
2. You can set only very basic track properties. Patch, volume, pan, transpose, and some more.. they are all on different tabs.

Sequencer:
It has a decent sequencer, an onboard arpegiator, and pattern recording. memory is 200,000 notes, i wish it wasn't volatile. the sequencer is not as smart as one on the Roland XP-80/60. The realtime loop recording could be better. Once you are in record mode, you cannot change tracks. You will need to stop and select a different track. sometimes it breaks your beat and your idea is gone!!!

Sampler:
very nice sampler, easy to use, 16MB memory exp to 64 MB

Effects:
This is where TRITON beats all other workstations.
Very nice useful effects, 5 stereo insert effects BUSSES. TWO master effects, and one master three band EQ. I love it.

As I said earlier, TRITON sounds need some mastering work. You can't just select presets and get a nice mix out. You need lot EQing to bring the istruments at the front. Kicks are too low, snares are too thin. You will need to bring kicks toword middle and also add some low mids to snares.

The useful sounds are few in numbers than other SE and synth sounds.
I think TRITON is a wanna-be-techno-synth.
Few useful pianos, flutes. Strings are OK. Drums are great. Guitars are good. Synths are great. SE amazing.

Only two kind of filters. Low pass, and high pass. And filters are funny. they don't sound the way they should. If you are using the knobs to change cutoff, it's strange.

Effects help a lot to create sounds. Without those effects. TRITON sounds plain. No color at all.

Lots of dynamics.

Overall, I was expecting a better overall sounding synth with this much hype.

I hope so.

Didn't welcome my suggestion of thinking about the sysex record capability in sequencer. he said "we don't have and we don't plan to do this". not even payed attention to how useful this feature is...

If it's stolen, I will get a TR-Rack and GM-EQUINOX.
I have it for about a month, I have Roland JV-1010, and the expereince is not pleasant to control JV-1010 from TRITON.
I love TRITON for effects, sampling capabilities, and large memory sequncer. Also love the way it looks. There are very few it to compare with. YAMAHA EX-5, GEM EQUNIOX. Both had less effects, so I went with TRITON.

If you are thinking of getting TRITON, think twice if TRITON is not the only one synth you will be using. If you are planning to include TRITON as a master keyboard, you are on the wrong track.

polyphony is fine keyboard action is smooth since I'm not a piano player..built in effects are awesome and easy to use just wish triton had RESAMPLING!!! sEQUENCER IS EASY TO USE I just don't like when you save a song(pattern) when you load it back up...it resets resolution to HI(default)loop has to be reset again.

I just had a chance to hear that thing as a trinity user I felt like doing it. The Trinity is very similar to this one, definitely. Most of the things are the same except for that sampler thinng which is a good thing to have on that board. Also the polyphony has been increased which is incredibly important. Overall it's not bad, if you're a Trinity user I really doubt if you should trade your Trinity, most of the things are the same, the sounds I mean, it has more "TOYS" to play with.

At last, better polyphony!!! For god's sake, how long???? the keyboard is the same as the Trinity so it feels great. I am little dissapointed about those effects although they're Stereo right now which weren't there on the Trinity. But, it has 5 INS and 2 Masters effects. the expandability has finally been fixed like I want it to be. the Ribbon controller is smoother but less sensitive. I still prefer my Trinity's at that aspect. the sequencer doesn't care about me as I don't need so I won't mention it. The touch screen is smaller I think but it doesn't really matter. Overall, Not bad Guys, at least Korg cares about users Unlike Roland.

Hm.... well, as simple as that. More toys to play with then you have better texture sounds. As a trinity user you won't find new programs here at all. the drums are the same, another snare and bass maybe but that's it. they added the TR-909 crashes unlike Trinity but who cares? get the PBS-TRI with the dance waves expansion and you've got it all. it will fit to ANY style. those who say that it doesn't sound for Trance is Bullshit. you can make it sound like Trance machine, Use your Imagination. the reaction is great from the keyboard. The acoustic piano is well, sucks as hell!!!!!!!!!! what the hell were they thinking about??? the PSR sounds better!!! come on guys, last effort, at least a good piano... no can do. Too bad. Trinity people, hear me, KEEP your trinities and expand them NOW before the expansions won't be available.

Sorry, I can't tell anything. I will tell you this: Trinity is NOT too different so if you bought it not long ago like me then don't trade it for Triton, it's not worth it. Just because it looks better and more programmable it doesn't mean you need it urgent.

I am playing keyboards all my life. I was definitely dissapointed from many aspects about this thing. I expected a Monster and instead I got a toy. This isn't a serious keyboard players' dream, get real! It it definitely a concept of Kurzweil's keyboards. Just the added polyphony and a larger seq and etc.. whatever! I wish it had a NORMAL acoustic piano sound. Even my Trinity's piano is better! come on guys! I will end this review in a few words:
Trinity should stay with you if you already bought it. It's like the X3 and N364, same deal guys. Same sounds More features. the X has a medium piano, the N has a very BAD piano. Just keep yout Trinity, it will definitely serve you for years to come. even till the next millenium.
