Ease of Use : 7
It's not very intuitive, but once you adapt to it, it's fairly easy to get around.
There is a Quick Access bank, with 16 locations to record your favorite patches but once you've recorded it they cannot be altered.
It's easy to work with the effects and reverbs.

Features : 5
The keyboard action was disappointing. I have a background on classical piano, and I had been using a Yamaha P-120, wich has a LOT better weighted action and sensitivity, more realistic.
It feels like synth keys with weight, the rebound is not good, and most of all the mechanic feels cheap.
Haven't worked on MIDI with it yet.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 5
The piano sounds are not as good as many of the reviews say. Roland and Yamaha are better. Electric pianos are ok, and strings too, but organs are disappointing, even with rotary or distortion effects.
The plus side is that there a lot of effects and reverbs to work on the sounds, although they are limitating because you can only edit one effect per sound.

Reliability : 7
No problems with it so far, although I don't travel a lot with it.
The jack DC/AV inputs feel cheap.

Haven't needed one. Have it like 4 months now.

I was looking forward to have this digital piano.
Near my town there are no music shops that had this piano on exposition, so I took the chance. I wanted a good digital piano with a good soundbank and editing features (was playing with a yamaha). Wanted to try another brand (other than yamaha) and the reviews I read indicated that this one had a better quality/price relationship than the Rolands.
I was wrong.
I think this keyboard is a let down to anyone who has a classical background.
If I had to buy one again, I would definitely go for Roland, I wouldn't mind paying a bit more.

The front panel is quite functional, it certainly lacks a bit of graphical feedback, but for the limited soundbank set, it seems to do quite well. One nice touch is always being able to see where your MIDI controller value is at all times on the LCD of knobs and expression pedal.
I'm still getting used to the user inteface but so far so good and it doesn't get me lost in it like a korg does.
Manual is very concise, a few consistency errors, but all the same logical and descript.

The polyphony is large enough, the sound set is functional albeit slightly limited, but as a studio MIDI controller the strengths of this unit are the actual keyboard and build quality, it's built like a tank but doesn't weigh like one (23kg). The effects are truly amazing, I'm an Audio Engineer by day and I would say the dual 24bit effect processors in this unit are extremely high end, reverbs are lush, choruses smooth with no artifacts or stepped increments. The leslie emulators and mod effects are very organic.
Nice to have a built in metronome and USB port for computer connection.
Would have liked to have some aftertouch though...

I spent two months looking for an 88 key weighted keyboard as mainly a controller for soft synths, I spent time looking at m-audio (eeek, don't touch the 88 pro) CME UF80, Yamaha and the Kurzweil. Being a classically trained pianist it was evident to me the first second I touched the Kurzweil that emphasis had been put into the feel and dynamic translation of the keys. From the lightest touch to the heaviest hit, the tracking speaks beautifully, this could be in part to the inclusion of the Triple Strike Grand preset for the piano, but I believe this must be a light version considering the looped sustain on the note tails... it's actually not very nice when listening on critical monitoring, but the attack and dynamics of the preset is beautiful. I haven't spent enough time with the rest of the soundbank yet as I mainly use sampler instruments in my computer for every sound.
The keyboard plays beautifully, the modwheel and pitchwheel is smooth and refined in action.

This thing will most likely live in my studio for its lifetime, given it's thick metal frame, I don't see any issues with it occuring.

Well my power supply out of the box was making a very loud buzz after being on for a while, the shop I bought it from replaced it instantly, hopefully this is reflective of Kurzweil's general customer support policy.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
For the price, this seems best in its class from my research. The CME UF80 comes in at a very close second and only because the CME has some serious issues right now (black keys only hitting 115 velocity max).
Wish it had aftertouch.
All in all, it's a pleasure to sit behind this keyboard and create.

I waited a long time (two months) to get my hands on one of these and I'm glad I did. Fairly simple to start up and get playing right away. You resort to the manual after that-some of the deeper functions require it. Like the way you layer sounds-it's easy to do once you've learned how-however it's not intuitive. The presets for the most part are wonderful. I love the pianos-very realistic. Breathtaking! Electric pianos are superb and there are enough of both of these sounds for variety. You can save presets you have made or want to reference quickly like when you're playing live. There's a bank of 16 you can store for this purpose. Manual is pretty good-neither too lengthy or too sparse to be ineffective.

64 note polyphony-enough for me. I'm using it more for live performance than sequencing. The keyboard action is superb and a vast improvement over what I've been playing. It's a pleasure to solo on this Kurzweil. A lot of built in reverbs and effects. There's a USB port for upgrading-but for PC's not Mac's at this time-wow-couldn't see that coming.

This keyboard does standard pianos, strings, and horns with great accuracy and realism. That being said, don't look for anything gritty or ballsy. There's one electric piano with some grit, but for the most part-this keyboard does beautiful music. Unfortunately, I don't always! I was disappointed with the couple of organ sounds provided-they just don't go far enough. The leslie effect is nice and authentic-but I was left with needing something more. I hoped I wouldn't have to lug another keyboard to the gig, but I'm not sure. Of course, they wasted their time on the guitar sounds-the vocal sounds-and pretty much the drum sounds-although you can start a preset drum pattern and jam to it on the keyboard or with you guitar, as you like. It seems like these were added for programming and sequencing.

I did a lot of research for the best bang for the buck. Went up to my local Guitar Center and played everything they had a couple of times. I wasn't surprised to see a lot of cheap and cheesy keyboards for sale at prices that weren't. Thankfully, this is not one of them. The SP2X is a world class player, both in playability and wealth of piano sounds. I wish it had better organ sounds. They might have done a model with a smaller keyboard for more portability-less size and weight. For the money-1151USD, this is a great one to have. It does inspire you to play.

Just received this keyboard a couple of weeks ago. Must be one of the first ones off the boat, or so I surmise. Tried to get one from Musicians Friend, waited several weeks with no results. Found one at zzounds and I got my hands on it in three days.

I would rate the ease of use, just to get operational tones out of it straight from the box to be good-not great. Actually it's not nearly as deep as the Kurzweil sampler I already have.

I'm using software version 1.02. It's USB equipped and downloadable for updating, however I use a Mac, not a PC, so they don't support my platform yet-wow, I couldn't see that coming!

The presets are not numerable (64), but there is plenty of good stuff at your fingertips. You can store them-with your additions/patches/layering as you see fit-16 in all spots for your tweaks-which is necessary if you want to call it a stage piano.

The manual is brief, but concise and trackable-it's not produced in a different language so,
easy enough to read- with all you need to know and not much more.

This is where the keys show their stuff-the touch and feel of the keyboard is SUPERB. Very tactile and smooth-substantial and solid. It's great soloing on and you can alter the touch if you so desire.

It has tons of reverbs and effects to pull from-and the stock applications of those effects are well realized and functional.

64 voice polyphony is plenty for me. I'm using it more as a performing ax rather than a studio one-but it would function great with Digital Performer or the like. I'm sure I'll get to that in short order.

OK-Kurzweil is known for their authentic and classic form of musical styles of sound. The grand piano and it's many variations are SUPERB and DELICIOUS. When I first got it linked to my amp, I was nirvana bound. I actually was drawn to tears when I heard the pianos onboard.
The electric pianos are really, really nice and authentic to the various permeations that have been ingrained into our memory banks over the years.

The organs however were a disappointment. This keyboard is very pristine in it's authentications of sonic sonorities. There is no grit or grain in any of the organ replications and that's something I think sucks. I wanted this to be my only keyboard to drag around-I play guitar as well and less gear is more to me.

Strings are very nice and woody, realistic and usable. The clavinet is cool and vibey and I can see many uses for the three or so they provide.

Of course the guitars suck big time. I have never heard good guitars from a keyboard in my life and probably never will. I can't believe they spent time emulating those-just get a good guitar player and spend more time on the organs man-you're pissing me off!

Haven't had it long enough to know. I bought a Gator case with wheels-the semi hard version-and we'll see how that goes. I got one for my VHT Pittbull head and it's worked well for a few years. I did have to change out the handle that broke on it-I probably overloaded it the case with pedals and cables-but the top of a crutch of all things, provided me with a padded handle and it might be better than the original-

Oh, I digress-

Heard good things-hope I never have to find out

I check long and hard for something with all the features I had wanted in a new keyboard-which I haven't bought for about ten years.

The action of the keys and the piano/electric piano sounds makes it a winner for me-that gets a 10!!!

The useless and waste of time tones bring it down.

It is an inspiring keyboard to play that opens up new possibility and has you playing things you never had played before. I'll never go back to a semi weighed keyboard after this-it is true bliss.

On the other hand, the keys are not light-probably 48 pounds or so.

The price was right-no doubt and zzounds was 100 dollars less than Musicians Friend-plus they had one to ship!

If they had a 73 key it would be better for me.

Good bang for the bucks-not everything I wanted, but almost
