Ease of Use : 10
The Rogue is a very simple synth to use. Just turn it on and begin creating all kinds of sounds.

Features : 8
The Rogue is monophonic and has two VCOs. The oscillators range from 32' to 8', produce sawtooth and square waves, and can by synced. The oscillators can also be set to an "overdrive" mode which causes extra distortion. The LFO can control the oscillators and the filter, offers triangle, square and random (sample and hold) waves, and has auto-triggering. The filter is a classic Moog 24dB VCF. The keyboard can be set to contour, keyed, or bypass. Since it was made about 20 years ago it has no memory, MIDI, or sequencer but it sounds great just the way it is.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 8
The Rogue is best at producing bass, drums, and very strange noises. It is definately a good way of getting Moog bass and a Moog 24dB filter for a small price. I think it would be great for any type of electronic music.

Reliability : 8
It's case is made of molded plastic and seems to keep everything inside intact. It is very lightweight (12 lbs.) compared to its big brother the Minimoog (approx. 25 lbs). Taking it to a gig should be no problem since it has great portability and can be trusted to work properly.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Moog Music Inc. of Buffalo NY went out of business about 15 years ago so any damaged parts will have to be found elsewhere. Any parts, however, for this synth should not be hard to find.

Overall Rating : 9
I love the Moog Rogue. It has all of the basic features any good synth should have and a few extras (overdrive, sample and hold). It also makes a great compliment to a Minimoog. I know $460 for a Rogue is a lot but it was just in such *wonderful* condition I couldn't pass it up. An average condition Rogue should go for anywhere between $275- $350. If you are looking into getting a first synthesizer or just want a smaller one to add to your lineup the Moog Rogue is definately a great choice.

Very easy. Since there are only a limited number of settings, getting the sounds are just a matter of tweaking those settings. Though the number of settings are limited, the number of sounds are immeasurable...

http://www.synthmuseum.com/moog/moorog01.html Read for yourself... Pretty average for the normal joe-schmoe just wanting some cool analog sounds (no midi)...

Expressiveness/Sounds : 9
As you'll hear many-a-time, it's a moog. I just sold my Realistic MG-1, which is similar in styling to the Moog Rogue (remember that Moog and Rogue rhyme...), but I personally think that the Rogue kicks the MG-1's butt (even though they were both created by Moog). Very good for analog synth solos and beats...

Reliability : 6
I bought it used, and i noticed that the pitch goes out of tune almost immediately... and some of the pots are scratchy (when adjusted while playing), but these things can be fixed (I think)...

Customer Support : 5
I've tried emailing MoogMusic.com for info on various topics, but i haven't heard replies... but there are plenty of places to provide support for vintage Moogs...

Overall Rating : 8
Me like. Me like a lot.
