Ease of Use : 10
The presets sound amazing, you know, the "A trick of the tail" bass sound, the growling deep bass and the rattle on top. The unit is incredible easy to use.

Monophonic. No effects. No MIDI. No sequencer, but I'll give it a ten because it's supposed to! The magic about the Taurus is playing it with your feet. Think about it: It's the best and ONLY analog synth completely playable with your feet (ok, there are other models, but those haven't many options and NONE sound as good as this). Taurus II doesn't came close, it's only a Rogue synth but foot controllable, and because of that is thin sounding. The Taurus was designed by Moog (assisted by Emerson) and the idea was to create a system of three synths, One for melody, one for harmony and one for the bass. Finally the project was terminated, but this survived... they really hitted the spot with this.

You can see two of them in the Andy Summers setup in "Message in a box" collection....and they use to play punk! Mmmm, I don't see a DX7 or anything like that...wonder why...

Suits any type of music if you use it properly....or tell me wich style can't be benefitted with an incredible subharmonic of 35 Hz bass bottom (I've measured it)

Reliability : 8
I can depend on it....anyway...I cannot afford a 2nd. Taurus!

Bob is still making beautifull synths, but the company doesn't have any info or parts before 1998.

Overall Rating : 10
Mine has came all the way from Canada to Argentina (Borges, not Ginobili or Maradona, please). I've quitted on Prozac since I have it ;-). Really, get one, it doesn't matter the actual state of it, you just have to know if you or somebody you know can fix it!.

It has never been emulated or replicated. Bob is being temptated by the "synth" media to remake them. Is an incredible, inspiring and UNIQUE instrument, I have a lot of synths that I'm selling now, I can VST emulate most of them.....the IQ keyboard player Martin Orforf did the same thing.

When I first purchased my Taurus I pedals I was amazed at how easy they were to use. I spent a few hours playing with all of the sliders and buttons and found more than enough sounds to work with.

Features : 9
The action on my Taurus I is great. Since it is an older synth, there are no midi or expansion capabilities. It is so easy to use though. Just plug it into an AC outlet and plug in one 1/4 cable from the synth to a mixer/amp and you're in business.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 8
I play bass guitar for Country Artist Collin Raye and have been using my Taurus I pedals in his live show for 9 years. I have also used them in a rock & roll band in past years. Therefore, in my opinion, they work well in any type of music.

Reliability : 8
I bought my Taurus I pedals, used, in 1983. I have been using them almost weekly for the past 17 years! The only problem that I have ever had with them is the contact points will eventually wear down and cause the notes to not work. I just open them up,add solder, and I'm back in business. I have never had a backup for my Taurus I Pedals.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never dealt with the company.

Overall Rating : 9
If My Taurus I Pedals were lost or stolen I would have to replace them with the exact same thing. I have been playing music for money for 35 years. I have 4 basses, 3 Fender and 1 Yamaha. I use a Peavey T-Max Bass Amp through 2 EV speaker cabinets(1-15"&1-4-10")I try to use my Taurus I pedals in conjunction with what the keyboards are playing rather than what I'm playing on the bass guitar. Working for a Major Country Artist, I get weird looks and even laughed at by other bass players...Until they hear the band...

Plug it in, turn it on, fiddle with the variation sound and off you go. Very simple and very easy to use.

Features : 6
Monophonic analogue footpedals with Mini-moog like sounds but not as versatile. Four different sounds ; Taurus, Bass, Tuba and variable ( you can set the sound yourself on the keyboard ). The most common use is of course the killer low Moog-bass mainly featured in the Taurus-sound mode I have used it to play leads ( while recording ) on it with my hands but I've mostly used it with my bands live.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 10
It's a Moog. Mainly bass sounds but hooked up to a couple of Effect-pedals and tweaking the Variavble sound it sounds great.

Reliability : 8
We use it all the time and apart from a bit of Oxides it's been working great.

Overall Rating : 10
I knew exactly what I was getting and for what we use it in my bands there is no other keyboard that we'd rather use. I've played in bands using the Taurus II but this is the one. It is like comparing the Mini-moog to the Rogue. We've have been using it with Tremolos and distortion pedals to exaggerate the filter sweeps more and it has been working out great. Lately we have been using the variable sound to play slow leads and harmonies and it is great. I've never regretted getting it even though the price was fairly steep. It is is so liberating being a four piece and having keyboard bass and another sound source without geting another member.
