Ease of Use

Extremely easy to use. It only has presets, but they are damn good ones. The presets are adjustable to a certian extent; you get filter cuttoff, envelope, lfo speed, portamento and detune knobs. You also get unison(extremely fat!), chord memory, and auto tune.

Mine has the maximum six voices. The keyboard feels great. The pitch and mod levers are the famous Oberheim ones, awesome! No MIDI of course, they are way too old for that. They do have CV/gate in and out. Yes, you can use it as a CV/gate controller!
Expressiveness/Sounds

Sounds like late 70's/early 80's. Great synthy presets, very hip today. Does NOT have lame presets like on a Roland from the same era. The basses have an enormous presence. very expressive for an analog synth. It has basically the same innards as an OB-XA, just less control over the parameters.

Amazingly sturdy. German quality proves itself again! 20 years old and it is in perfect tune.

Sometimes it's better to just have a synth that you can turn on and play. I own many other vintage analogs (SCI, Roland, Moog, Arp, Octave, etc.) and sometimes I just want to play music, not create new "never before heard" sounds. Like I said, the presence of this synth is incredible. It has the big Oberheim sound everybody wants (in the presets!). So, you can go buy an OB-XA and struggle with getting those classic patches, or find one of these for way cheaper and have those patches ready at your fingertips. They are sort of rare though, so good luck finding one!
