I've used this with Digital Perfomer since it (the peavey) was new. I bought it when it first came out. A few of the presets sound great for the music I do- rock, alternative, etc. i think my favorite presets were the fretless and the fingerbass (with tweaks) I imagine i would like a lot more of the presets if i was doing funk, hip hop or other music that i could use those other sounds on.
Never used a patch editor. I did use sysex commands in sequences to modify sounds.
The manual was good.
Features
:
7
8 voice polyphony, 4 voice multi-timbral, 1 MB of 16 bit Bass waveforms, 200 presets (through MIDI), Layered presets, Legato response in Mono, Poly, and Multi modes, Fine tune and transpose, Autofloe for daisy chaining.
No efx, no expansion, MIDI capabilities good, though no dumping of sysex data.

I found only a few sounds to be usable without considerable tweaking. there's enough sounds to work with most types of music.
reacts well to my playing.

I probably wouldn't replace it. I have a real bass and many newer modules that do a great job. I've been playing 35 years and i have too much gear to list here. I wish you could edit the sounds and save them in a MIDI dump.
WHAT I DESPERATELY NEED IS TO FIND THE PATCHLISTS FOR THE 200 PRESETS WHICH I'VE LOST. IF ANY ONE KNOWS WHERE TO FIND THEM, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!!

This unit is dead easy to use. Just pick a sound and go. Can't edit patches from the front panel, but available editors are super easy to use.

This unit does bass and nothing else. When I bought it years ago, this was what I wanted it for, a rock solid dedicated bass module. It still has sounds that are very useful for modern music. It also has way more polyphony than I've ever needed.

Some sounds are very good, some are very sound FX'ey. I write a lot of straight ahead rock tunes, and I use the fingered bass sound a lot. It does miss some of the nuances that having a multi-gigabyte library of bass samples would have, but this isn't a big issue for me on this unit.

I used this thing for 8 years of full time club work as my only bass synth. Half of the time this was the only source of bass sounds for the whole band. I played in some very smokey bars, but I never, ever, had any problems with this thing. It's sitting in my home studio now, and it's still the source of bass sounds on 90% of the stuff I do. Rock freakin' solid.....nuff said.

I never had any reason to use customer support with this unit since it has been so reliable and easy to use.

This unit has been one of the most solid pieces of gear I own. It always works, and it always sounds good, no matter what I ask of it. I'd definitely get another one if this was stolen. I played as a pro keyboard player for 10 years in various club bands, and I used this for 8 of those years, with maybe 5 of those years using this as the only source of bass sounds for the band. I plan on growning even older than I am now with this thing always in my rack-o-gear. The ease of use far outshines any soft synth I've tried, and the sounds are still completely valid after all of these years. Highly recommended.

Plenty of great sounds. I use a Peavey CyberBass to control it most of the time (at least when I'm not re-soldering the resistor chains on the CyberBass...) The Spectrum integrates very well with the CyberBass controller, so it's very easy to use.

Legato and multi work great. It controls well with a keyboard midi controller with velocity. I've used it with an Ensoniq KS and the midi implementation is fast.

The sounds are really designed for a velocity controller. The acoustic bass sounds have a nice "over pluck" sound and there's a good beeoooww in the fretless voices with a hard pluck or slap.

Never had a problem with it (the CyberBass on the other hand...)

It's still my primary bass synth. I use it for recording as well as live.

This unit is so simple, just bass, bass and more bass.
Features

The features are really not that important with a unit like this, but it has got everything you need. MIDI is very tight and the BASS is strong.

This unit shines in the bass zone. Really, I own a Pulse too and this puppy still gets used A LOT. Good SOLID BASS and a lot of variety too.

This unit was a major good deal for $150. More bass sounds than you will ever need. I love having all that BASS POWER at my fingertips.
