The E-28 has a vast selection of effects and sounds. The fact is, it has more things to do than buttons. Therefore you have to do things like hold buttons down to play them.
Features

For a reasonably cheap keyboard this has a very sensitive keyboard (touch sensitive) and it is very durable. The effects such as scale are great for music that requires you tune your instrument diffrently to the norm.

The Roland E-28 uses the proven Roland Sound Canvas. This 3mb is the standard for MIDI recording and sounds very expressive. Due to the price of the instrument the instrument has no expression layers. the sound, at times, can sound synthetic but for this price how can you complain.

This Keyboard is very reliable. My paticular one (About 7 years old) has a slight problem with the power socket. This is no fault of rolands and fault of neglect but i still think it could have been stronger.

I am currently looking for a better keyboard with weighted keys and better sounds. But i am paying more this time ($10-15,000). If it was a couple of years ago i would have brought it again.

I am 15 and when i got this keyboard for christmas at the age of 10, i was firstly conmfused, the amount of buttons from my previous keyboard were vast. At first i had no clue how to use, it. Luckily though, the manual is easy to use, understandable and proves very useful. Now i have no problem with the keyboard, a peice of cake to use.

This keyboard is allround useful. You can do anything wit hit, its easy to transport and has so many holes in th back of it, giving the impression of being able to plug in and out all sorts of cool stuff. Its very practical and simple. I have easily plugged it into my computer and made 2 albums onto CD. Very very good

What is the point? There are HUNDREDS of sounds. Why? Yes for a beginner or a child it would be great, but I want a realistic sounding piano, maybe an organ and a few others, but THATS IT! And what is the point in the 'scale' button. It has no purpose, it just makes the piano sound bad. Although i think there arer too many sounds, they do no harm and show a great range. Maybe though they could in prove in the realism of their sound.

I have read other write ups on the E-28 and alot have said they have had problems with the buttons breaking. What aree you doing to your keyboard? I have had it for 5 years, I play it all the time and have moved across the country from gig to gig and have had no problems with my keyboard what so ever. Very reliable and I wcould live with this keyboard for a atleast another 5 years.

I plan on getting a new keyboard very soon, not because there is anything wrong with my E-28, but simply because I have grown out of it. I only have one flaw on it. It isn't full size. I t was fine to use until i started playingBeethoven and other stuff where you need the whole piano size. It is a brilliant keyboard. It kept me going for 5 years and it was my second keyboard. I have been playing for a total of 7 years and at grade 7 so I think , as a musician this keyboard is great for beginners who plan to build on therehobby and turn it into a talent.

One major advantage to this keyboard is that the presets are all listed on the casing. This saves fiddling around with a screen and allows an appropriate setting to be selected easily. There is no patch editor. The manual is very easy to use(shame about the colour mind)

The action on this keyboard is really good. It is lovely to play. It has no built in effects and cannot be expanded. This limits it somewhat however if a midi performance controller such as the Phatboy (keyfax) is used some really good sounds can be achieved.
Expressiveness/Sounds
:

It has a great range of instruments but tends to have some pointless and often useless sounds (such as an ocarina) and not many of the piano sounds etc many people need more of. It is a great all rounder though and can be used for any type of music. It is also very responsive.

It is kind of let down here. The various buttons and power switches have bust on mine and I have had to have them fixed. It could be used for gigging but it is very flimsy and you would have to be careful with it. (which is unlikely!)

If it got stolen I would probably buy a slightly better keyboard however it is great for a beginner. I have been playing for around 5 years. I have a Roland D-10, a proteus module, a phatboy and a torque keyboard amp also.
The E-28 is very light and easy to carry around, what I hate about it however is that it does not remember what you have recorded when you turn it off. It helps me make music.

The presets are good, no patch editing at all. The manual is good
and so the translation into spanish.
GS presets are quite satisfying for a keyboard of this prize.
The octal Roland notation for patches is a pain, I would have
preferred a way of selection the instrument by its GM number.
Every accompaniment has 3 associated presets (lead instrument + effect), these should be configurable.
Features
:

No expansion boards, no sequencer, 32 note poliphony.
Expressiveness/Sounds
:

The sounds are good, as one would expect from a Roland keyb.
Suitable for playing GM files, especially rock, pop, etc. The limited
poliphony makes it unable to play simpohonys, for example, and
techno patches are a bit dull.

I would get a more expensive keyboard, (I have more money now :)
I have it for a year and a half and use it at home. It is perfect for
playing midi files and making recordings for friends. Its keyboard
is as good as any cheap PC MIDI controller available and the sounds
are good too, so why buying a wavetable card and a MIDI keyboard?
I would not recommend using it for a professional musician, though.

The preset sounds are good but the effect sounds (i.e. B11-B77) are too similar and not very expressive. The Manual is good.

Apart from 32 note (I think) polyphony and Midi there are no great effects. While I can connect my E28 to my pc I play live in a band and I this keyboard is not really suitable for this type of work.
I hate that to change sounds live you have to press about 3 or in some instances 4 buttons. Obviously for fast changes this is extremly risky. I would like to see sound banks into which a sound can be entered for quick reference during, say, gigs.
Expressiveness/Sounds

no aftertouch which is a pity but overall the Roland sounds are pretty good. The keyboard is best suited to rock/blues music as it's best features are the piano, el. piano, organ, violin fulte, and brass sounds. Not suitable for dance music as it's electronic sounds are not great and as for classical music you are restricted by the 5 octave keyboard.
The on-board memory is too small - songs cannot be recorded in full. tut-tut-tut - I am surprised that Roland did not notice this this MAJOR problem.

I would not buy this keyboard again. I would recommend a keyboard with more effects or a synth which in fairness would meet my needs better than a keyboard. As mentionned already, you have to press 3/4 buttons to change a sound - this is very hazardous for live work.
I dislike that the on-board memory for recording is
