Ease of Use : 10
The software of the controller is VMK 3.0. Editing the control changes assigned to the knobs, sliders and buttons is very straightforward. The manual is very slim but after all is only a MIDI controller, not a synthesizer.

Features : 10
The Studiologic VMK-149 is a 49 keys MIDI controller. The keyboard action is amazing, one of the main reason to get it. The keys are weighed hammer-action with aftertouch (pressure sensitive). They feel really solid and can help to be very expressive when performing (either pianos, synths or drum samples).

It has some dedicated buttons that function as a transport for a MIDI sequencer, a joystick for modulation and pitch (resembles those in the KORG workstations), 8 buttons, 9 sliders (one is set as master volume by default but can be changed), and 8 knobs.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 10
The keyboard feels really solid and professional, even though only 49 keys, these are true weighed hammer-action (just like the 88 keys version VMK-188).

Reliability : 10
It's built like a tank. Very sturdy construction and seems to be very reliable. It even comes with a very nice padded carry bag when on the move performing.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
I would buy it again. No other MIDI controller has such a wonderful keyboard in a 49 keys version. I considered the Novation ReMOTE49, the Korg Kontrol49 and some of M-Audio but their keys are more synth-action, only the Novation has aftertouch and none of them feel as solid as the Studiologic VMK-149.

I wanted a 49 keys controller, with weighed hammer-action and aftertouch, a small package (for studio and on the road) and the VMK-149 was the only and best option.
