I agree.... The parameter matix (6 layers of parameters share 6 knobs) can be a bit tedious...
I'm looking into remote controller access units with more knobs to assign to the Pulse+ parameters...
This should ease the sound programming, level jumping acrobatics...

Features : 9
Just a hardware, 2u rack, 3 osc, mono, midi, analog? synthesizer...
oh... also...

Sound in filtering...
CV/MIDI conversion...
Remote controller access...
Multi-Pulse "stackability"...
Arpeggiator...
An out of buisness synth company....
(adds charm...) ;)~

The Pulse+ is powered by a wart...
No power switch...front or back... tsk...tsk...
(techie note...)
I added a small profile toggle switch to the front plate...
1/4" hole... above and to the left of the Pulse+ logo...
Switch wired to power interupt jumpers found inside...

Expressiveness/Sounds : 8
Sounds like an analog synth...
Oscilators with "nads"....

Reliability : 8
So far so good...
The 6 pots or "knobs"..."encoders?" need special attention.
They are not old school synth pots..."knobs"...
Loosie..goosie... feel to them... almost floating...
Little support given to them by front panel...
Don't want them broken...? no "man-handling"...
and.... Don't drop it.... ;)~

Customer Support : No Opinion
There is a customer message group...
I don't know about any company support...
Hope I'll never need to...

Overall Rating : 8
I wanted a CV/Midi converter for my SH-101...
I ended up with a converter... with a nice mono synth attached to it.
2 birds.... one stone...
It's German... exotic... sexy...
I like it when it wears it's leather nazi gear... ;)~

Every function is accessible by front panel knobs. The six knobs have six functions apiece, depending on which menu you're in. It's all written on the front panel. It's easy to get the hang of it, although it can get a bit tiring scolling between menus. Place the unit at eye level on your rack if you?re going to program on the front panel. If you have Sound Diver it will make programming easy. The manual is very good.

Features : 9
Monophonic, no FX. Sends Midi CC messages on all parameters--every programing parameter can be a play parameter. Great modulation matrix. Only 40 user patch memories, though. The ?plus? includes an external input, so you can use the filter on external sounds, and CV/gate inputs and outputs.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 10
Ballsy, up-front sound. Great 24dB/oct filter.

Reliability : 6
My Pulse+ started to get flakey three years ago, with low filter values "wrapping around" to the top. Eventually it developed noise in every oscillator and crapped out completely. IMHO, Waldorf wasn?t always very quick in responding. But they sent a new OS eprom, and when that didn?t work, they eventually sent me a whole new board! Their US repair guy was very helpful by e-mail.

This is the consumation of my teen lust for a Minimoog. If you want a classic 3-osc synth, this does all that. I've had it about 5 years, though mine had a bad history: worked for 2 years, flaked out for 2 years, and was down for a year. But now it?s phat and happy again; I hope it stays that way.

latest software ( 2.1)
presets are generic and not as good as they can be.
editing is smoth after the first 5-10 minutes.
Patch editor makes it cool - also to store the new sounds
on your PC.
I use the PDF file on my PC.

Features : 10
I own many synths including the original MiniMoog.
The Pulse Plus is very close but I think it should
looked at as a different synth.
While the MiniMoog has all the knobs and the "Old Sound"...
( and just about the fattest sounds ever...)
The Pulse plus has midi ( all of it)and also "new sound"
and some extras like patches, Mod matrix and 2 LFO's...
I love using them together with panning L-R.

this is by far one of ( if not)the best Monophonic
true analog modern synthesizers on this planet.
the reaction/time is just great.
lightning super fast envelopes.
I do have a Korg EA-1 and a Yamaha AN1X to compare the
Real Analog Vs Virtual Analog
when it comes to Phatness:
hands down to the Pulse Plus !
my god, you've got to take the bass down on the EQ.
I only wish it was polyphonic...lol

Reliability : 10
so far so good.

I work in a pro studio since 1984
as an engineer/producer
I can tell you that this synth sits in the mix
as good as a jupiter 8 ( I've got 2 of them )
and if you want to know how the Jupiter sounds
just pick up any 80's-90's good record.

The editing matrix gets on my nerves sometimes, but im not really used to them in general.

Features : 10
I have to go with a 10 on this one. You really cant find as many features for a $500ish box. At first, i thought that the fact that it was a monosynth was a big drawback. I changed my mind. A box so fat, you only need 1 note...

Expressiveness/Sounds : 10
You can get some great sounds out of this thing. Its great for just about any kind of music, in my opinion. It makes some killer bass for drum n bass type sounds. Be careful on the speakers!

Reliability : 10
Hasn't crashed or given me an error yet!

No need to deal with them yet...

Overall Rating : 10
I dont know what id do without it. It makes up a big part of my sound. A lot of people try to compare it to the korg prophecy, and i dont think they really compare. (apples and oranges) I could never beat it for the price i paid (came to 428$ with tax) It was a demo at guitar center. One of them 'right place at the right time' deals.
I don't use the CV stuff (i only own midi equipment!) but the audio in adds a great feature to it!
