Ease of Use : 10
It doesn't get much dsimpler than this - power button, 4 sounds, volume control, and lots of white and black keys to make noises with. Very easy!

Features : 7
The feel of the keyboard is superb and feels pretty close to a real piano, and as a digital piano it's excellent. But that's about it - there are only 4 sounds, no built-in effects, and it does lack the versatility of many other units.

Expressiveness/Sounds : 9
Sounds are gorgeous, there's just not many other them. Very expressive and responsive.

Reliability : 4
Well, after a year or so the keys started sticking down. I took the top off the unit and pull the actual keyboard out. The stuck keys had cracked right at the point where they connect to the frame. So I swapped the broken ones to less-used ones either end of the keyboard. Six months later, same again. And so on.

I called Yamaha for help. They said they was a bad batch of keyboards and they were replacing them free, becasue of this. Turns out the lubricant they used broke down within a year or so, and the resultant friction caused additional wear on the keys. Now we have a new keyboard in there, it works a charm.

Other than the keyboard, the rest of the unit has stood up very well over 8 years, inlcuding several hosue moves and many occasions where I took it to bits to fiddle with it.

Unbelievable. I love these Yamaha folks!

Iniitally, we called up about the keyboard problems we were directed to our local Yamaha service center. They said they could replace it no problem as long as we had a recipt. Ummm....

So back to Yamaha, spoke to them again, and the charming young lady on the other end of the phone arranged for a new keyboard to be sent free of charge (and postage free too), but we'd have to arrange to get it replaced ourselves, and she warned that could cost a couple hundred. Seeing as I'd already had the top off half-a-dozen times, I changed the keyboard myself in about 5 minutes and it's been perfect ever since.

Overall Rating : 7
It's really an excellent piano, although the keyboard problem was annoying for a while before that was resolved. For the money I really expected better.

The piano was my wife's choice, and to be honest I'd have gone for something much cheaper. She barely plays it, but the kids do, and they'd have been happy with a $500 piano or keyboard.

Would I get another? No, I'd get a good quality, properly weighted MIDI keyboard and a really good sound module or two, to give us more sounds and greater flexibility.

But it's still a damn nice piano.

All I really ever use are the different voices, the pre-recorded songs and the metronome

Features : 6
32 note polyphony sounds very good. The only time we ever had a problem was trying to play along with the pre-recorded songs - it seems to get bogged down

Expressiveness/Sounds : 10
The sounds are fantastic

We started experiencing sticking keys about a year after we bought it. I watched the repairman replace the keys and he showed me how they had tiny little cracks at the very top of the key (where the spring made contact) and how the cracked keys sat a little sideways. After that, I just replaced them myself (because I couldn't stand to pay $150 Plus the cost of the keys), but like the previous user, I expected better from Yamaha.

Customer Support : 3
I tried to get Yamaha to pay for the keys but they say I probably abused it, which is a joke because we treat it like a grand.

Overall Rating : 5
It worked nicely for us, but I would not buy anything with the cheap plastic keys. This is ironic for us, because the "graded hammer" effect (the keys felt like piano keys) was the main reason we bought the CLP 920. We like it, the kids like it, but every 5 or 6 months I have to spend about $60 on keys and 2 hours to replace them.

Like the previous poster, my keyboard has also started packing up after ~2 years of use. Two 'E' keys (E0 and E1) both stick down when played. Both keys appear to have twisted on their mountings and rub the keys either side. Come on Yamaha - I expect better!

I had this piano in for about two years, and after one year of heavy use the keyboard just started to broke up. First one key at the time started making a snapping sound and then began to get stuck. It seemed that plastic keys had started to fracture. Actually, I'm quite sad, because I thought I'd bought a very good piano. Has anybody had same kind of problems with CLP-series?
