I mainly use this for midi sound module. I am a one-man-band but I rarely use auto accompaniment. I don't have to edit patches because the sounds are very good as is.
I found out that the manual did not assign large portion for midi operations. Seems like there are some limitation for this machine compared to work station. I maybe wrong about this.

I like the big LCD display and direct access to each features, volume control for each voices, etc.
What I don't like is similar song dictionary(?) which I never use.
Even though it offers sequencer capabilities, I do not use this. I better use computer-based sequencer becuase that's what I have been using and PSR2000 does not offer better feature than the stand-alone sequencer.

I read some one says it has super piano sound but I don't think so. It may have better piano sound than same level of Roland product. I like drum and Bass sound most. There is punch in there. Very heavy. Horn sound is super, too.

No problem except one.
LCD contrast feature has broken.
If I turn it brighter or darker sometimes I do not see anything.
But if I turn it back back and forth then it shows. To avoid any hassle, I taped the knob so that no one touches by mistake.
Other than that, so far OK.

since i turned it on it was very easy to use it, there are buttons for everything, and the direct acces button, makes it so easier even, instead of "next"-ing and "back"ing as in other keyboards. but i dont find the 16track sq, that easy to use, i really have to spend some time to get my songs donde, but on the other hand they finally sound much better, than roland's and korg's sequences. i like to change xg voices for panel voices to make songs more realistic.

i like the built in effects, it has got a lot, to be honest i dont use them so much since i find sounds amazing as they are set. the polyphony is great, i havent had any cut problems. i like to layer osunds and use harmobu echo, and it works great. i havent had any touble downloading midis from the internet and making them run into my 2000, it loads them fast and i like the disk direct function. (i use to take much time loading them and then play them at my PSR740)
the music finder works great, but there are some songs names that would sound diferent from those names you already know, if you have one you know what i mean

the sounds is the best reason i got it, it sounds better than the so much more expensive PSR8000, the sweet voices are amazing, i have a doubt, since the PSR1000 doesnt have nylon guitar voice, and the PSR9000 got Live! nylon guitar, and my PSR2000 only says nylon guitar, i thought they were diferent, well, let me tell you i have compared them, and i would say that PSR2000 got Live! nylon, it sounds amazing! my favourite sounds are: Sweet trumpet (my father thought it was a real trumpet when heard it on the stereo) and tenor sax, the breath effects are the best.
The styles are so great, i use latin styles a lot, and y have storaged many diferent styles from the PSR-8000 and changed voices XG to panel voices in registration memories to make them soind even better. After touch can be set, dozens of effects are included, i spend much time shaping diferent voices, then finally you can storage them in user's memory and you'll get more than 800 voices

if it were lost or stolen i would definetly get another PSR2000, i bought it last year (2002) and it works cool,
I have a doubt about in the manual says that the speakers are or got a dome, what it makes it better over the PSR1000.
mmm...i wish it had...maybe a sampler, but there is the PSR9000, but to be honest i prefer the 2000, since it is so much cheaper than the 9000, and they have almost the same features, it is so much you have to pay for a sampler, as if 800 voices werent enough!

It is pretty easy to use as an arranger. I use it for praise & worship.
The sounds are incredible & very easy to edit. The manual is fine.
Features

The polypholny is ok. I would have liked more considering I love to layer sounds.
The keyboard action is good if you like to play really fast.
However, I wish they would have used the action from the DX-7.
You can download styles & sounds from the web, that's cool.
The internal sequencer is the only thing that isn't that easy to use.
The sequencer is going to take some time reading the manual.
Would have like a touch screen, but for what I paid, it's definitely better than the Korg counterpart.

The piano sound is awesome, it blows away all my Korg & Roland piano sounds.
The guitar sounds are great, however the lead distortion guitar preset needs some editing.
The sax sounds are awesome. The sounds are the main reason I bought it
I have tons of Roland & Korg sounds & I wanted something different.
The effects are good. It reacts to my playing very well.
It's much better than the Korg PA80 in the keyboard action & arranger response.
It has better sounds than the Roland VA-series & it's way cheaper.

If it were lost, I would buy it again. This is a much better board than
the Korg PA80, & all the Technics stuff. It is a much better value than
the Korg PA80, all the Technics stuff, & all the Roland V-series.
My only issue with this board is figuring out the sequencer.
I'm used to using Alessis MMT8 & Cakewalk. It'll just take some time getting used to it.
Without question this is the best value arranger keyboard out there.
The Roland, Kurzweil, & Korg stuff is too expensive in comparison.

Pretty easy to master, if you read thru' the manual religiously. This is only my first 'big' keyboard. So, can't compare against anything else.
Buttons are all easily reachable and the LCD interface is easy run around.

The feature list is awesome! This is what made me decide on buying this.
Especially the voice/style list, vocal harmony, sound editing, effects..etc
No expansion capabilities. But still serves my purpose as I'm not into anything 'real' big.
Honestly, I haven't quite figured out how to 'really' make use of the vocal harmony to have female backups to my voice. I might be doing something wrong. But, the manual is not very descriptive on how to use this. I wish there were turorials for these kinds of 'significant' things.
Expressiveness/Sounds

Instuments like the guitar, bass and some flutes (in Wind) are very juicy. I cut a whole album with these and my wife repeatedly asked me if this 'really' was from the keyboard. She (and some others) were pretty amazed when I played my CD on a commercial player.
On board effects are good. Equalizing opens up a lot that can be achieved.
The accompaniment patterns, especially Latin and Rock were really good!Velocity and aftertouch can be configured, so again this opens up to creative audience.
I was not particularly happy with some ethnic instruments and percussion set but I was able to configure the sounds to my taste, eventually.

Reliable, alright. Atleast till now.
I don't see why I can't make this my primary source of background music (for my vocal) on a gig.

Out of the box and up and running! The PSR2000 is very user friendly - it helped a little that I had used an inexpensive PSR340 to ease my way into keyboards with built-in accompaniment facilities, but it was a doddle after my Roland XP-80. The manual is most helpful but the maze of cross-referencing can be a bit tiring (a lot of "for details refer to Page..." etc., but a little perseverence can go a long way.

After the weighted keys of the Roland, the Yamaha felt a bit like a two-handed accordion (two right-hands, that is!) and a little "plasticky" but at this price (Euro 1366 delivered to my door from those nice people in a well-known German superstore!) one does not expect the touch of a Steinway. The floppy-disc drive is fast and efficient, but obviously could not compete with a Hard Disc drive - again, at THIS price...! Loads of built-in effects like reverb, EQ etc., but the BIG plus for a singer in need of an unaffordable backing band/orchestra/group, is the wealth of styles (everything from acoustic folk to various styles of Rock, Jazz and orchestral) plus a range of vocal harmony backings from Country to Choir. The 2000 takes your own singing voice, feeds it through the keyboard, and provides four-part harmony based on the notes you finger with your left hand. There is even a "Girl Duet" effect which, if you are male and sing the melody of "Somethin' Stupid" will provice a very passable Nicole Kidman to your Robbie Williams - honest...! Lots of other features, too numerous to mention, but you can read them on the Yamaha website.

Some of the instrumental sounds are positively stunning. The Brass had my fellow wind players reaching for their redundancy forms! I've been a guitarist for more years than I care to reveal and I was bowled over by the reproductions - everything from Classical (nylon strings) to the furthest out distorted rock. And they can be combined to produce sounds most guitarists only dream about. Life-like Flute and "growl" saxophone, right down to the breathy sounds, best drums I've heard - again my percussion pals were slinking out to the job centre...! I use it in cabaret as a backing instrument (more backing orchestra) and it is a show-stopper. Like the best midi files you can imagine - but with the added flexibility of your being able to improvise, switch tempos and instrumentation. No end to the possibilities.

I've been gigging with it since I bought it six months ago and feel utterly comfortable with it. At first I carried the Roland and PSR340 as back-up, but soon dispensed with them as the 2000 is portable and - to date - completely reliable.

Ah, not so good here. I had one particular query about the Music Finder function (this theoretically allows you to file all of your programmed settings in alphabetical order for quick retrieval in a "live" performance) which the manual did not cover very well. I tried all of the Yamaha web-sites and was passed from one to another without gaining any satisfaction. No point in going to my local agent, as they advised me to do, because I had not bought the instrument locally, so he was not interested. Luckily the Music Finder is not essential and I can access my programmes quickly through the filed One Touch Settings facility.

I would be devestated if it were lost as all of my backings are programmed into its memory, except for some I have on floppy disc, but I also have a back-up of my material on floppy, so it would not be too bad - as long as the insurance paid-up! Yes, I would replace it, or go for the larger model, PSR9000, if the bank manager was in a good mood. I began playing keyboards (piano, then an old Vox Continental organ, 30 years ago - yes, I was a child prodigy, began in the cradle...!)and worked more recently with the Roland XP-80. the PSR2000 is more suitable to my cabaret work as a vocalist and I so much enjoy being able to reproduce just about every sound you will hear on record today - and that's no exaggeration! About the only thing I would wish for would be the ability to store tempo settings and endings with the rest of my backings, as this would obviate the need to pause between songs, albeit for a few seconds, to change these two settings. This would probably not be the right instrument for a Rock band, though it produces better drum rhythms than most "live" drummers in this category, not will it satisfy the so-called purists in Classical or Jazz. But for the singer who wants to travel light - and who can neither afford, or find, the right musicians to form a versatile gigging band - this is a diamond, a perfect treasure. Oh yes, it helps if he/she can actually PLAY keyboards...!
