All I know about the software is that there were several additional styles and samples on the HD when I bought it. For instance, there were arabic and greek styles/voices. The presets sound are great. I actually prefer to create sounds and styles with the PSR-7000 myself, instead of using the S80 Synthesizer. There are so many possibilities in this keyboard.

The polyphony is good. I don't see the point why Yamaha switched al Lead-Voices to monophonic. It's much fun to play the keyboard. The keyboard action is, for a 1996 keyboard, excellent, and comparing to my old PSR-310 it's perfect. Expansion capabilities like additional styles/voices etc. via Floppy Drive is/were available. Some PSR-7000's didn't contain a hard disk.
As I said, you can make styles yourself - the keyboard's actually almost a professional synthesizer. Unfortunately, there are only two parts to select for the accompaniment but that was usual lway back in 1996.

Comparing to the YAMAHA Tyros, the acoustic instruments and the drum kits sound quite weak. So, it doesn't really work well for rock music. It's more a entertainment and ballroom music thing. The dance and techno beats were quite hip in the nineties but sound quite awful nowadays. The same goes for some of the pop styles. But if you don't like a style, make your own. It's lots of fun and it's the reason why I use the keyboard so often. Especially adding DSP-Effects to the sounds makes music more interesting. There are so many DSP-Effects. Many of them can be used to change your voice if a microphone is connected. Touch response makes the playing more dynamic. Velocity and aftertouch are excellent.

Yes, I can. I only had problems once: An error occured on the hard disk and so I had to erase it's content. Probably, the error was a virus from a floppy disk.
Yes, I would use the PSR-7000 on a gig without backup

If it was lost, I'd miss it but I'd probably buy the YAMAHA Tyros. The PSR-7000 was worth what I paid way back in 1996. I would only buy it again if I saw it priced low somewhere.
I've been playing since January 1994, since I was 9 yrs old. I also use YAMAHA PSR-310 (since 12/1993) and the YAMAHA S80 Synthesizer (since 03/2001). What I love about the PSR 7000 are the effects and the accompaniment possibilities. What I hate are the few drum kits and the small 2-part-accompaniment-system.
I think that there was no comparison then. YAMAHA was known to me as a manufacturer of reliable products.
I wish it had better preset styles and some preset voices and of course a 4-part-accompaniment system.
Anyway, it does help me make music and it's fun to play this keyboard.

This keyboard is 32 note polyphony, and they keyboard action is very good for non weighted keys, it has many built in effects which can be combined for an amazing sound.
It has expansion capabilities to accept more memory and store more sounds, It has some midi capabilities such as pressure sensitive keys full midi mapping, plus a 16 track on board sequencer whicch allows you to make changes in real time, very easy to uise, once you master the quantizing you will have perfect sounding riffs, amazingly easy

The grand piano and the 12 string guitar sound so real, it will blow you away. The 7000 proves itself with all types of music, all you have to do is listen to the on board demos.
The onboard effects are amazing....such versitility is needed for the icing on the cake.

I really love it, but If I was to buy something now, I would buy the Novation Supernova II for a main keyboard controller.
I have been playing since I was 13, and now I am 42, I also own a Korg M1REX, Roland D550,
I compared the PSR7000 to all of the high end Professional Recording Workstations

Example: I invited a fellow keyboard player over - in less than an hour we were jamming - he was changing sounds and using fills. Extremely easy.Manual is good except - missing the Hard Drive install info.Go to http://www.yamaha.com/ycaservice (which is support ) to download free pdf manual and editing software.

They answer but may take a few days- They don't upright offer a lot of support for their musical instruments - I Don't Think that www.motifator for their Motif keybd is run by them - ( I think Twiddly Beats Soft Inc. has somthing to do with ownership) They need to wake up and support their growing customer base. I think Yamaha looks at musical instruments as a diverse but annoying array of support for which they will get little economic return. This is a mistake since the support and development of supporting ( yes legecy equip support as well) is what drives the devotional and ever growing customer base. Thank you www.Motifator.com but wheres www.PSR.com which would be even bigger?

It is the ultimate night club Keyboard for the specializing in solo because it is super easy to conduct while playing or singing live. musician in band will love the ability to provide accompanyment to the band in a hugh array of styles ( though the default are intricate but conservative).

I donn't really know which os im using.
This machine could generate wery realistic sounds of acoustic instruments, you could compare the high quality of the sounds to the most high end synthesizers today.
The preset sounds is ok.
The manual is not the smallest one, you could easily get the information and it's not complicated, there is pictures showing how to navigate trough the menues.

The polyphony is good but not enough, when you would play a sound using the harmony effekt while playing a style some of the keys would not response.
It has alot of built in effect, i think there are more than 50 editable effects.
A 2,5" hard drive could be installed.
There is a great sequencer with all advanced features, but it's still wery easy to use, thanks to the huge display.

This machine is wery flexible, you could use it for almost everything, it works well for turkish music to me.
I've got a software that allows you to take any .waw format sample and then convert it to the yamaha format which means multisample feature ofcourse.
The aftertouch is programable and could affect which parameter you want to control.

I could not depend on it because the keys are wery bad, sometimes when im playing some keys could suddenly stop sounding.
Im never going to use it on a gig without a backup, i like to have lot's of instruments around me :)

I've dealt one time with the company but they didn't know the answer to my qestion.
I asked them if they knew how to make a style with an arabic drumkit that i've got when Yamaha installed my hardrive.

If it were lost or stolen, i would propably go and find a psr 8000 with more features.
I'been playing almost 10 years since i was 8 years old.
I love the big display, the sequencer and the effects.
My other gears for the moment is, korg i30, M3R, M1(the best workstation ever) and T3EX.
My other gears are: Roland mc-303 and Roland XP60.
If you compare it to my I30 i would propably prefer the I30 because of the quality of the keys, but the sounds still sounds better on my psr 7000.
I wish it had a internal sample player like the psr 8000`s.
If someone have software (programs)or anything else for psr 7000 mail me, i want to exchange with someone.
Sorry for my bad english!
