Reviewer Background :
I've been playing professionally on and off for 30 years; recording in "real" studios for about the same and recording in my own home studio for about 5 years. I have a fairly modest DAW set-up that I monitor through a decent mid-level pair of near-fields.

Overall Rating : 10
The Hamburg is a large diaphragm condensor mic that works well on both vocals and acoustic guitar. I've also used it in certain percussion applications and gotten good results. Part of what I find appealing about this mic is that the high end is not nearly as harsh as what one usually finds in this price-range. There's a smoothness present that's reminiscent of a much more expensive microphone.

I'd give this mic a 10 easily considering the price to performance ratio. No...it's not a Neuman, but it outperforms all the other mics I've used in the sub-$500 category.

I would definitely recommend this mic to anyone looking for a quality, affordable LDC.

Was skeptical, but I'd read some good review so I gave it a whirl. Was REALLY surprised how much I liked this mic. My mai vocal mic was an AKG 414BLS and I wind up using this more often these days--has more presence, a bigger sound. If you solo it, it's not quite as smooth and clean as the AKG, but in a mix I like it better. FInd I compress less because the vocal is just THERE. Also nice on acoustic guitars.
