AKG A-51 Type V

I have been recording for many years, mostly acoustic and vocals. As well I have recorded quite a bit, beginning with an old Wollensak reel-to-reel machine in the 1960s. Not great, but it was a start. Now I am using a Tascam 8-track digital recorder and have several mics, including this ADK A-51. I also have an AKG, a couple of Shure mics, and a small Suzuki stick mic. I have Polk speakers but monitor though Ultrasone 260 headphones. (They are the best I have ever heard). Anyhow I am in digital so the need for optimum sound became important. As an acquaintence pointed out, even with a $3,500 recorder, if you have a $50.00 microphone, you will get a $50 recording. He advised me to get a good mic. He was right.

The ADK A-51 (Type V) is a large-diaphragm condenser mic that requires 48v phantom power. Many of the newer digital recorders have onboard power, which is convenient. I mic vocals, acoustic guitars, banjo, mandolin, tin whistle and alto sax. I have not recorded them all yet since the mic is new. I selected this mic because I did a lot of reserach and the ADK A-51 compares favorably with microphones costing much more. It was favorably compared to a Telefunken U-67, and that is good enough for me. As well, I am not requiring deep bass nor extreme highs (such as cymbals), so for the vocal and acoustic ranges this mic is just right. It is the best mic I have ever owned and can't imagine it falling short for the applications I have. I would most certainly recommend this to you or anyone else. It's wonderful; and, for the price, it's a great deal.
