Reviewer Background

I've been recording music since 1999. Usually I do rock stuff and acoustic. Even if I work on rock music I tend to use hybrid recording technics where I put emphasis on stereo miking. I have a pair of C2000 and prefer mostly ORTF or NOS like setups in a studio with reasonably good acoustics.
The C2000 mics I record directly to a Yamaha i88x and do as much as I can on a computer. Listening equipment are AKG-240DF headphones and Alcomax Monitor-80 (a very good quality limited series speakers made in Hungary, suitable for far-field monitoring) with Quad amplifier.

C2000 is something that you can work with. It's not great, for me it has some kind of a metallic taste in it's sound (but I know that every engineer would describe this sound differently, still this is what I associate for). Sometimes I love this kindda sound for recording tube amps for guitars or bass. The highes could be nicer, usually I need some boosting or harmonic enhancement.
Still, I think it really wasn't bad for it's price back then (1999-2000). Now when we have cheap condensers around like the new AKG line, Oktava, Rode and such, I would test them all before purchasing C2000 that is quite more expensive. I have a feeling that it might not be as better as it's more expensive. But I don't know, this yet to be tested...
