I started recording original material on Fosdex 4 tracks over 25 years years ago and have graduated to digital along the way. Still writing but now using an older but serviceable Roland VS-840EX. I've used mostly EV and MXL mics, both condensors and dynamics. The band I'm in swears by Shure 58's and I've used them live but like the AKG better. Saving my pennies for a ribbon mic.

The D2200S is a dynamic cardiod microphone that as far as I can tell is being or has been discontinued. I use it for vocals mainly where it does a decent job. I bought the pair mainly because I couldn't pass them by for that price. Since I use it for vocals and vocalists tend to have favorites (sometimes based on superstition if nothing else) I have to say I like it almost as much as my truty EV PL88, in a different way though. The polar pattern rejects off the sides a little more extremely than the EV, which is great for louder venues, but if you sing a little away from it, you drop off rapidly. My problem is if I play bass and I'm singing looking down at the neck (happens alot on the newer material) our sound guy has to adjust for it. That said, I like the high mid reproduction on it, nice and crisp. I think it goes well with the mix, doesn't need a lot of EQing. If you play the mic while singing, and you have a darker voice, this could be the one for you.
