I have 27 years experience & was looking for something a little clearer than the SM-57 I was using.

Overall Rating : 9
I walked into the store dead set & ready to purchase an SM-57a, had heard it before & "knew" it was what I wanted. Well, the salesman asked if I cared to hear similar priced mics before I commit to the SM-57a. I said "why not" & he grabs 4-5 mics (without me knowing which makes/models) & hooks them all up to a test PA in the store. Well, needless to say the AKG D5 blew away most of them, including the SM-57A (the one I was initially after). The only one that I thought sounded "better" cost 5 times as much as the D5. And it was only "marginally" better, not 5 times better I should add. Although I didn't know it at the time of testing, all the mics cost more than the D5 & I still chose the D5 based on the merits of its tone without knowing the cost of any of the mics in the blind soundtest. Doesn't sound hyped or processed, very natural & condenser-like air to the top end, but again natural sounding. I'm incredibly pleased with the tone/voicing of this mic & very grateful to the salesperson who prodded me to give a few different mics a shot. I listened with my ears & the clear winner was the D5. Thank You AKG!

I have 35 years experience. Used mostly Sm58 but I needed better feedback rejection for soft female vocal.

Overall Rating : 8
This Dynamic mike was better than others I had used and compares equally in feedback rejection to the ElectroVoice nd767 which a friend has for this purpose. The thing with this mike is it is more articulate and has a extra airy high end that you normally only hear from condenser mikes. Still I was not satisfied with the monitor levels I could get for the female vocalist so I let the drummer use this one and I got her an ElectroVoice ND 967 and it seems
to have the ultimate gain before feedback and really cuts through. The D5 has eliminated the feedback problems for the drummer who has to deal with the reflections of the back wall and the problem of the drums exciting feedback. His voice sounds better than ever with the D5.

I have been singing for over 30 years! Choir,Church Choir,College Choir,Concerts, and last Karaoke.

Overall Rating : 10
Great Dynamic mic. I am Baritone and it is warm not cold like a lot of Shure and EV mics..Yes I have tried 767...58a,,,58..57...967 Even tried the Seinnheiser 835 it is awesome but little tinny.

This is the first mic that when I sing low notes it is clean and somewhat warm without over powering the lows.. I can sing Louis and sound like I am in Chicago club..I can do Ozzy and sound Clean imagine...
I bought when first came out..Now they are$100 on sale..They are from the same country as the #1 Handgun in the world..Austria. This thing can double as hammer if needed..But not recommended!
