Reviewer Background
:
I have been playing bass and singing bv's for 40 years. For the last few years I have been using a beyer M01 (now tgx48) that I won in a competition. The beyer is as good as an sm58, and has been more than adequate up to now. I have recently joined a Who tribute band as lead vocals so thought I should upgrade my mic to something in the ??100-120 range.

The D7 is the next step up from the popular D5 (what happened to the D6?). It is a dynamic supercardioid with a neodymium magnet and a high pass filter at 80hz. After reading reviews it was a choice between the D7 and an audio technica AE6100. I went for this because of the keen price at pasupercentre. It arrived within days and was well packaged.
I use it at anything from 6 inches to my lip touching the grill and it is fantastic. I do not have experience of condenser mics, but this knocks spots of my band members sm58 beta (not enough definition) and sennheiser e845 (bit raspy). It is built like a tank, feels really comfortable when held, looks great and comes with a really good cylindrical protective case.
highly recommended.
