I have made live and recorded music for a long time. Decades. I have two digital recording decks and record to hard disk primarily. For playback I have Polk speakers but prefer to use Ultrasone headphones for mixing.

I have found the AKG 850 to be an extremely clean, good, versatile microphone. It's a bit clearer than my ADK A-51 condenser mic, but not quite as warm. For vocals where you want a little boost, the AKG is a wonderful instrument. I think this model is being discontinued so good deals are still available. The list is around $179, and Sam Ash has them at $100.00 off, so this is a very good deal indeed. I can't imagine a better stick mic for vocals or guitar. It is far, far superior to the Shure mics I have. Exceptional detail, clarity and punch.
