I've been playing music for about nine years now. I play several stringed instruments and the drums. I'm a songwriter and I enjoy the music production side of things just as much as playing. I've been recording mostly my own stuff for about three or four years.

Primary Equipment:
ART Tube MP (w/usb capability)
AKG Perception 200
SHURE SM57
and a PC to which I record
Software: Cool Edit Pro 2.0 and Cakewalk Music Creator

Overall Rating : 7
Like I mentioned above, I write songs and record them. Before using this mic, I used my SM57 for EVERYTHING. The Perception 200 has made quite an impact in the quality of my recordings. I rate it a 7 because it's no Neumann, but it does have a nice crisp sound.

You'll still need to use a touch of EQ if you're wanting a really crisp or "airy" sound. I use it mostly for vocals and acoustic instruments. Combined with my ART TUBE MP, I've made recording that have really shocked my friends. They don't sound quite as good as the highly produced radio hits nowadays, but if you're aiming to go platinum with your next album, you may want to consider a much higher priced mic.

Overall, if you're looking for a good, inexpensive mic for vocals and acoustic instruments, I would highly recommend this mic.

Hello, I've been playing drums and guitar for 20 years. I've recorded over 18 bands and over 40 musicians. I record to an ADAT for my drums and I track on my PC with the help of the Firepod.

Overall Rating : 10
I use the A.K.G. perception 200 for all vocal tracks. I must say for the price I would buy another one because the vocals come out clear as a bell!!! I have had only good experiences with this microphone and i would suggest it to any musician or audio engineer with a big fat 10!! Great microphone addition to any studio!

I have been playing for 6 years, I've been recording for 3 years in my personal studio using a lexicon omega and a PC. I have recorded practices and several gigs as well as studio work. I have used 4 different mics in my studio.

I was comparing this to a Behringer B5 and an MXL 990. It is way more natural than the MXL, it ahs a nice clear, uncoloured tone. I have used it to record vocals from several people, and they all sounded great. I really like the sound this mic gets from about 3 inches away, it has a limited proximity effect and picks up a clear presence from up close.

I like the mic so far, I'm new to recording vocals on my own. I use to go to a studio and pay studio prices. The mic really pics up vocals very well, my singer has a boomy voice and this mic really is able to deal with that. The studio where I use to go had Neuman mics and I really don't see a dramatic difference. Especially once you start tweeking the audio with a little delay and reverb. I also compress my vocals after they are recorded which help a great deal. I hope this helps anyone considering this mic...

I have been playing guitar for 28 years. I have only just begun recording in the last 5 years, I am using a Tascam US224 console with Cubase SX5 and use M-Audio BX8a monitors with Audio Technica Headphones

Overall Rating : 8
AKG Perception 200, I use it primarily for vocals and to record my accoustic guitar. I use it with an ART Tube Pre (cheap and good sound). The mic comes in a nice robust carrying case with shock mount included. The mic itself is constructed very well, nice and heavy. It feels like you are holding something of value. It spicks up my vocals very well but I find it a little thin unless I get right up on the mic to sing. But after experimenting, I am picking up really nice vocals. That technique combined with a pop screen has proven well. It does a very nice job recording my accoustic guitar as well, Again a little bit thin, but I can easily EQ the guitar tracks to fatten it up.

With no other Cond. Mic expereince its hard for me to rate this against other more expensive mic's, bit can tell you that my recording buddies who have dragged me into this world are impressed by the clarity and even more so by the price. I think it is pretty close to the best bang for the buck.

Im a pianist and guitarist. I have been recording for four years. I run a recording buisness for folks who want to submit track to recording labels. I record to digital WAV and side record for safety to reel to reel and cassette. I use a large Tascam and Behringer mixer providing the phantom voltage needed to run the mike.

Overall Rating : 9
I find teh mic to be at great value. I will say that I believe the mic has dropped in price is because AKG no longer makes the Precision 100 and now makes the Precision 400. So the company drops $200 of the Precision 200 to make it comprable in price to the previous Precision 100. I use the mic for voice recording and some accoustics. It performs at about a 9 rating. I say this because I have yet to see a mic go good head to head with a Neumann. I find the mic to be very diverse and mixer friendly because it can take on 145db. It works at a 9 rating with accoustics and at a 9.5 with voice.
I ran it head to head with an MXL 990/991 and it knocked those two out. The MXL are to "electric" and "robotic" sounding. But surprisingly they work good with accoustics if the mixer is correctly adjusted. The polar pattern can be easily adjusted by the 10db shift switch, or a 100khZ mixer adjustment. Polar pattern is okay standalone but since its a condenser mic, it can pick up everything. I like the 1 inch diaphram element. Good value with case and spider mount. AKG can afford that, it's left over from the precision 100 assembly line. If you wait about 6 months to a year the Precision 200 will go up in price.

I heard it briefly in a comparison with two other mics around the same price point -one being a Samson... one of the C0 series -the one that goes for around $170 or so. -The other mic was the EV Cardinal. I felt it outperformed the Samson and held its own against the EV. The EV was definitely warmer, but the Perception 200 was more natural, yet brighter. Though it was pretty close.

I had my doubts about the perception as well -considering it comes in a really nice case and with a shockmount... I mean that has to take up a bit of the cost in itself. -but surprisingly, it does extremely well for the money.

Home digital recording on EMU 0404, sure sm81, cubase vst, cakewalk, etc. I am a professional concert violinist with interest in recording. Have done recording for 13 years. 2 instrumental albums and a few Gospel/folk experiences.

I just want to see If anybody has tried this mic and open a review discussion.

I have heard good reviews on the Musiciansfriend.com web site, but most of them don't know what they're talking about and only have used toy mics ($20) in the past.

I have seen the AKG manufacturer specs and they seem to indicate this mic is a winner, but I am a little suspicious of AKG releasing a mike with such spacs at that price ($149). So, if someone out there knows anything about this mic, please share it.
