Reviewer Background
:
I've been an active musician and sound engineer for about 25 years now.
I am a professional sound engineer with a very diversified recording experience, ranging from large orchestra to single voice. But I'm also a soundscape artist, recording environmental sound. Depending on the situation I record to various types of equipment, but when I'm soundscaping I nowadays use an M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96.
For playback I use Genelec studio monitors and Beyer headphones.

It is a couple of small omni directional condenser microphones. I've used them in various set ups, even handheld. keeping them about 50cm from one another gives a beautiful stereo depth when recording a band or orchestra. when I bought them I was looking for a small quality microphone to make outdoor recordings. I was thinking of an okm/soundman set, but then found this brand and I was immediately convinced when I could try them. Aevox apparently is a small (Belgian) company, their microphones are hand made and they've done a great job (even wind shielding is very good.) Considering the quality the price was very very good. If I have to be nagtive about them it's the fact that they limit themselves to the portable equipment, because they require a powered microphone input (like on most mini disc recorders and video cams.) So if you want to plug it in your mixer you will need to find a way to power them with a battery (and the company doesn't make these.) But otherwise they're just great, I'd recommend them especially to people who are into soundscaping, but, out of curiosity I set them up next to my Neumanns on an orchestra recording job and I was just amazed by the quality.
they have other models as well which you can check out at www.aevox.be
