I've had the 4033 for years now. I can honestly say, I never even get it out of its box. I have an AT4050 which I'll go to instead, plus some higher end mics. The 4033 is a bit better in performance and to the ear than your MXLs, Rodes, etc. in my opinion and a good value at its current street value, but it's still a low-end mic. Will get the job done on most sources, but if given an option, I'll reach for a smoother/fuller sounding mic. It's a bit thin and as most mics are in this category, it's a bit harsh.

I've been playing guitar and singing for about 7 years. In the last two years I've been recording regularly. I completed a CD of my music in 2003. I use a PC DAW using tube preamps and condensor mics.

Cardiod condenser mic. I use it for recording acoustic guitar and sometimes vocals. When recording acoustic guitar, I place the mic about 8 inches from the guitar and point it at the 12th fret. This mic works well for this application. I would recommend this microphone to anyone looking for a relatively cheap, but good-sounding cardiod condenser. I have very little experience using more expensive microphones, but I don't have any desire to, so that says something.
