This mic is just 'Ok', although I got a great price on it (used)
I use it mostly live, and it does better with acoustic guitar than mandolin. I use a Shure SM94 on the mandolin (it is a far superior microphone). I play in mostly quiet venues, and it seems ok, but it does not record all that well. The other microphone we use for live use is a KSM27. It is also superior to the ATM33a, although being a large condenser, it is a different animal altogether. I don't know what these cost new, but I don't think I would pay more than what I did for it ($50)

Do home recording on a Tascam 788. Musician for many years. Had been looking for a good condenser under 200.

Excellent mic, with flat frequency response. Can't overload it and it is very accurate. Highly recommended. It takes a battery, as well as phantom power. Very pleased. Lower noise than my Shure SM57.
