I'm not yet 20, but I've been a life-long musician, starting violin at age 4 and branching out from there. In addition to my solo acoustic work, I have played in a few bands and have opened for Keller Williams & Lifehouse. I'm now a music major in college, but when I get a chance to work (if you'd call it that), I am an AV person specializing in sound tech work for a company called Majic Enterprises in the Milwaukee area.

Initially, I bought the OM2 purely at the suggestion of the sales person I was talking to. I was looking for something like an SM58 in price and performance and he suggested the OM2 instead. I have since learned a lot more about music equipment and used most other brands out there and in it's class, the OM2 can't be beat. It has a very rich low-mid range that I especially like. When using the SM58s we have at work for sound teching, I often find myself tweaking the high-end EQ to get that clarity I get naturally from my OM2. It just works and sounds great, simple as that. So I've since bought a second for simultaneous use with my looping pedal.

One aesthetic characteristic I like about this mic is how great it feels in your hand. I usually have it on a stand, but when I use it without, the microphone just has a nice feel to it. You can tell they thought about it.

I have used it minimally in recording situations, using a large-diaphragm condenser instead. If you're mostly recording, this mic isn't for you. I usually use this mic for vocals at my acoustic, coffeehouse-style shows, but I have also used it in band settings with similarly pleasing results. Just as I have told others about this microphone versus all others, I recommend it.

Audix Microphones are excellent. I use them to mic my kit (D6, D2, i5). They are American made just like my drums (DW). USA baby. That???s right USA made. I recently purchased an Audix OM2. Just to try it. I already owned an OM5 and an OM7. The OM2 is excellent as I sing backup vox for many artists. Great for stages of all sizes although??? I prefer the OM7 when I am on a larger stage with lots of monitors.

Everyone makes a good microphone these days and besides??? microphones are a personal preference anyway. The right mic for you is the mic you really like when you hear your own voice. I like my voice with the OM2 and the OM7. I really like the sonic clarity. Audix is like Apple products. First class. Audix may never have the exposure Shure has but one day, you will find out I???m right as well as many others that also realize that Shure is not the only game in town anymore. As far as the OM2, for the $$ you won???t get a finer microphone.

I use this mic for vocalists at my club. We A/B'ed it against both a 57 and a 58 and without a doubt this thing is better. It seems to add a nice warmth to everything. No feedback problems either.

I want to buy a couple more.

I'm a life-long musician starting at the young age of about 4, I started with piano, guitar, bass, and drums. I'm mainly a guitarist now, but I like to play the others on the side. I usually record directly to my computer, and it's mostly for solo acoustic stuff. I think after about 18 years of music, my musical ear is quite good and I can tell a good microphone from a bad one.

This is a typical all around Dynamic mic, quite similar to the famous Shure SM58. The off axis rejection on this mic is wonderful, I've tried a few mics in this price range (Shures, AKG's, Audio Technica's) and I prefer this mic to any other. Not only does it have great feedback rejection, the signal to noise level is awesome! In my acoustic band we've got a few Dynamic mics floating around, mostly lower end Shure's and well when ABing them to this one...there's no comparison. I run the gain far lower on this mic, and I get more signal than all the others. It feedbacks way less, and brings in no extra hiss into my mix at all.

Compared directly with a Shure SM58, this wins hands down for vocals. I found the SM58's to have lower signal to noise ratio, as well it needed way more EQing to get the same clarity as the OM2. Anyway, I've had this mic for a couple years, and recently I ordered 3 more from music 123 for $200 US (which is a steal! Especially compared to what I originally bought mine for locally.). I mean I've got enough mics around, but these ones are so trouble free (no clue why the guy before said he had to re-wire the XLR's, found that very strange), durable and just sound way better than anything in its price range.

These are great general purpose mics, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. And just so you get an idea of the durability, the sales guy who showed me the mic dropped the floor model from about 8 feet up right on to the steel ball. The microphone didn't even have a scratch, or dent...and it worked and sounded great. He said that the steel balls on these mics are about 10 times stronger than any other...and I believe it.

I have been a music teacher for 4 years and every summer I run various week long work shops and one of my work shops includes audio engineering for live performance, home recording and I also teach an extensive course during the spring and fall semesters on mixing and mastering. In the home recording work shop we have a wide variety of equipment to simulate various studio rigs, cheap home DAWS, and portable recording multitrackers.

Your generic dyncamic, hypercardioid microphone.
Made in the USA.

We purchased four of these microphones. Had problems with each of the microphones, the XLR output had to be re-wired.

Decent microphone used for live performance of vocals, guitar cabinet, and some drum mic techniques.

Microphone is very durable and the sound is of excellent quality with very minimal amounts of feedback and no instances of noise difficulty. Students found that the low noise floor and minimal feedback caused for ease of use with mixing board live to shape vocalists sound. A great number of students preferred the Audix OM2 over the Shure SM58 however, the economical value is simply not there.
