Reviewer Background
:
I've played music for 14years and now venturing into recording. I've bought the cheapest gear so far which include the Behringer C-3 Microphone matched with the MIC200 Mic Preamp.
Overall Rating
:
10
The C-3 is a Dual Large Diaphram condenser MIC. It has selector switches for Bass Cut, Omni, Cardioid and Bi-directional polar patterns.
I have used the C-3 for Vocals and have found the MIC to be very sensitive (as a condenser should). A distance of 30cm or so gave best results. The sound quality can be described as Clear and quite Warm. It is not clinical sounding, but there is a bit of musicality about the sound. It does not have the upper frequency sensitivity as the best MICs do, but is a good compromise between being Clear, but not too clear. The bass response is excellent having a full warm bottom end.
The different polar patterns seem to affect the sound quality. The best setting for vocals I found were Bi-directional and Omni. They have the clearest and most transparent sound. The Omni directional mode seemed to alter the sound quite a bit, having a certain nasal or frequency suck out somewhere.
I like the effortless sound quality of this MIC, however, a little more clarity in the upper reaches wouldn't do it any harm.
The build quality is top notch. It is heavy and is constructed from solid metal. The MIC holder is flimsy, but works okay. The connectors on the base are good quality.
There were no competing MICs for this price at the time, so to get something equivalent would have cost double the price. However there have been some new Axis MICS which are about the same price, but I have not tried these.
I would have to say that based on the price/performance of this MIC, you absolutely cannot go wrong with this MIC.
I wish more people post up their experiences with this MIC as there aren't many reviews on it, hence my effort here.
Once important thing is that because it is a condenser MIC, you MUST have phantom power on your mixer or preamp.
