Reviewer Background
:
I write and record mostly rock music. I have 10 years of experience engineering in studios and live sound. My studio is analog 24 track on 2" tape. Monitors are KRK.
Overall Rating
:
10
Large Diaphragm Condenser microphone with fixed cardioid pattern. I have used the M37 on vocals, acoustic guitar, and voice overs mostly. I considered many of the cheaper imported condensers before purchasing this. I think the M37 is much better than my friend's MXL 990 and Nady condensers. It is a very rich and detailed mic that doesn't get muddy but has some nice coloration making things sound bigger. It sounds like a good "big studio" mic should for very little money. It's my favorite mic for many things. It also has the important Pad and High-pass filter, a feature missing on many budget mics. The M177 is the newer version of this mic from what I've read.

The CAD M-37 is a large diaphram studio condenser: cardiod pattern, bass roll-off and -20 pad. Low noise a rugged construction. Replaced by the M-177.
I've used it to close-mike brass instruments (will take 140+ dB!!) and brass section (6'-10' distance).
Price, features (-20 pad) and CAD brand name make this mic look perfect for me.
Nice, smooth transparent sound even with high SPL. Have also used it with male voice-overs. No male or female vocals.
