Reviewer Background :
i have been making music for a while.
I have plenty of recording experience.
I record to DAW, and sometimes to half inch 8 track tape.
Primarily, I monitor through event 20/20 bas that i have had about 4 years.

Overall Rating : 9
Its a condensor with a cardoid pattern. It works very well on acoustic guitar for recording in the studio. Its a small diaphram so it defines the sound. Also, it picks up my vocals well... Kinda adds a smooth character to the sound. I am a guy with an average amount of bass and very little sibilance. I usually like to place it about 2 feet away somewhere between the acoustic guitar and the vocalist. I usually point it toward the mouth depending on the ballance i achieve. Its very easy to get a good ballanced live tone for singer songwriter stuff... so i usually have used this for live guitar vocal demos. I have also used it as a distance mic for room sound on drums and it worked especially well for that. Also, i have used it quite a bit for electric guitar cabs. It requires a bit of EQ depending on the tone you want on a guitar cab, but its easy to make it sound really killer.

In live situations, you have to remember to not swallow the mic like dynamic mics, but if you stand back 5 inches or so, it works great. Very natuaral sounding.

Im not really sure why i choose this one at the time i bought it... but im glad i did. I think its a very useful mic for a lot of situations. Its got its own sound though, but im glad to have it in my toolbox. If you use it with a nice pre, it really can shine. It is a beautifully crafted mic as all earthworks mics are, and i think its particularly resistant to damage. Like i said before, its a very nicely ballanced mic.
