This Mic is a Condenser mic for vocal.
First i had an A/B session with china mics and the TLM came out quite ok.
Then I compared it with a U-87 and Phantera and the TLM 49 had no chance :/ It soundet booosted and compressed. I want to do thees things myselfe ;)
BETTER THAN MOST CHINA MICS

Been in the "business" for over 35 years, 30 of that in live sound, live performance, and 20 in recorded sound....radio and television arts backround (graduate) with a preference for audio production. Have used a myriad of systems over the years, some large, some small...about 3 years ago decided to scale down and go with a Roland VS system combined with "good to very good" outboard...some fairly high-end pieces...built a studio at the same time new home was being built, and that's where I spend a lot of my "spare" time now.

Overall Rating : 8
The TLM49 is a single pattern studio condenser, as described previously...I bought this primarily as a vocal mic, to have: a) a different flavour b) so I could answer "yes" when clients asked the inevitable question, "Do you have a Neumann".
I already own a pair of Microtech Gefell M930's which I love for lots of things including vocals, acoustic guitar and overheads, so I really wanted something different than that, without really breaking the bank...I had previously tried a TLM103 that I hated, and a U87ai that, while I liked it okay, really didn't feel it gave me a whole lot more than the M930's, at least on the test sources...I'm running my mics throught either an A Designs Pacifica, or occasionally a Drawmer 1969.
Mics are such a subjective thing, all I can really say here is I don't have any problems with the mic, sounds fine (a little colored, which is part of its design)...for my voice (lo-mid baritone) it's great, definitely not unnaturally over-hyped in the top end...would I recommend it to others?...not unless I was in the room with you, and heard it on the "source"...it's why there are so many mics, no one mic is the best at everything...overall I'm happy with this choice as I do feel I'm able to make it work nearly all the time, and sometimes it outshines the other mics I have (again, in the right application)...and lets face it, especially in "small studios", when they ask if you have a "Neumann", that usually means at that point they've made up their mind (or read it in a magazine) anyway, so your best to just pull it out, and throw it up....doesn't matter what it "really" sounds like to you, some people can't be convinced otherwise...best to just please the customer, and get on with it.
For the money, it works for me...technically, there may be better mics available at this price point, but not Neumanns in my opinion...

I've been recording for over 25 years starting with stereo reel to reel, then 4 track then 8 track 1/2 inch then DAW's from Roland, and now I have a full blown PC rig with conditioned rooms and a home studio.
I have the usual Shure's including Beta product, AEA ribbons, Rode NT5's and K2, Soundelux, CAD units...

Overall Rating : 10
This unit is a card only pattern (tight) and was designed to fill the gap between the 10K U47 and what a home studio or project studio can afford. It is specifically designed for vocal. It came with a hard shell case as I purchased it through Long and McQuade for their 50th anniversary. This was a special deal.

I am very pleased with this mic and must admit that I had reservations as I was not so impressed with the TLM line until now. Only because of my preferences.
I am recording mostly acoustic music, and this lives with my voice. It has a velvet valve personality even though it is a FET.

Try it I think I may buy a second
