Reviewer Background
:
Musician for most of my years, recording experience mostly band demo/home project type stuff. Recording to DAW, listening back on some bookshelf speakers and headphones - need quality monitors one of these days.

This is a dynamic mic - I read somewhere that it is similar to the EV RE20 which my pocketbook couldn't afford. It was designed mainly for kick drum but has a nice flat response across a wide range.
I was hoping this would fit the bill for vocals, but to my ear (granted it might sound better in a mix) it sounded too closed. Even an SM57 had a more open sound to it. The low frequency response is great though, and I'm sure this will sound great on kick drum and bass cabinet.
Overall a good mic to have in the arsenal, might be good for spoken word but just not detailed and open enough for my taste for recording vocal tracks. Of course I suppose the RE20 is not ideal either and probably takes some eq tweaks to sound good.
