Reviewer Background :
I have been making music for over 20 years, and recording music professionaly for about three years. In our studio we record anlaog to digital media and use digital editing and post production. We normally use a pair of Mackie 864's to mix on and switch between Genelec's and yamaha's for mastering.

The T9000 is a large tube condenser mic, which uses a 7-pin mogami style cable and seperate power supply. the mic has a low rolloff and an attentuator, which make it useably versatile. My friend who is the head analog engineer at Peavey told me that this microphone was reverse engineered to compete with a U87. This microphone is not a U87 however it sounds very similar! The smooth tube sound is very warm and is what i would consider more of a vintage AKG or Telefunken than Neumann. The main draw back is the lack of support and repair. Peavey discontinued the microphone in 1994 and therefore factory repair is all but over. However those looking for a really good true tube vocal microphone should consider finding one. Once you consider the going price of a decent new condenser you could easily own one of these mics. the microphones employ an ax7 tube which was most likely made in china and can stand replacing in most circumstances. We own five of these microphones and continue to use them regularly. I have found that they work well for solo vocals where there will be little accompaniament. I also like these mics for recording acoustic piano.
