Reviewer Background
:
I recently wrote a review on the Red5 audio RV6 were I said I was going to purchase the RV15 tube microphone.
I spoke to Red5 about changing the valve in the microphone to a mullard or maybe a groove tube and they said this would not void the warranty, what a bunch of nice chaps!
I firstly tested the mic on acoustic guitar, trying out a variety of different placements. The mic was clean and bright but was I noticed the most was the fulliness of the bass and low mid which was very detailed. I think this is the area were many chinese mics fall down but the RV15 does not and compared to more expensive mics (Se2200a, Rode NTK) I think the RV15 stands outs.
I also tried out the mic with some vocals and once again the fullness to the sound rally caught my ear. I think this mic is great for male or female vocals as the valve doesn't colour the sounds is an aggresive way.
Overall Rating
:
No Opinion
The mic and power supply are very robust but the only downfall is the shockmount as the tighting hinge has been poorly made.
Apart from that a great mic.
