Reviewer Background :
I have worked as a recording engineer and record producer for (22) years here in the U.S., in Japan, and in Europe. My experiences cover a wealth of formats from analog tape to digital work-stations, to direct to disk.

Overall Rating : 10
I have to rate this amazing tool somewhere between (9) and (10). Other reviewers have given the basic info about the mic's features etc. I feel the thing that has been left out is the mic's sound footprint. This mic was not designed to reproduce a flawless mirror image of the vocalist voice. On the contrary, it was designed to greatly enhance the human voice. Some other reviewer mentions the even harmonics of Classic's tube circuitry. If I had to put it in my
own words, using the Rode Classic would like taking a very accurate black and white photo and reproducing it in soft focused colored pastels.

The Rode Classic lets vocalist and producers hear what the singer's voice could or should sound like in a perfect world. Many vocalist are amazed at how good they feel they sound using this mic, when the reverb has been switched off for "A" "B" comparisons.

This mic is a commonly availible in recording studios in France, Italy, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. In fact the Neumann U149, the AKG C12 and the Rode Classic are the "Big 3" tube mics in just about every large recording studio in Japan.
