Making music for 10 years, recording and mixing live for 5..
DAW recording usually.
Tested these mic out on high quality PA speakers at a live engineering gig I did. Through a Behringer 2442 desk I'm used to using so know what sound to expect.

Overall Rating : 10
Drum mic kit with 7 mics, two condensers and 5 dynamics (one dedicated snare mic, three toms and one kick)... Comes in a plastic case..
I tried out the Studiospares own brand drum mic set SD800.. 8 mics and it was cheaper with a more expensive flight case so guess less money went into the actual mics because the overheads were useless.. So I sent them back and these are replacing them.

I used these new Superlux mics once for a wedding I engineered, used one snare mic, one kick and the two overheads on kit only because it wasn't a very big room and not many channels (10)..

These Superlux mics are so much better!! Some real thought has gone into them and I think they look real nice! The snare mic is very small only a few inches long it is great for hiding in amongst the kit and doesn't get in the way. I tried this snare mic out on guitar amp too and it sounded very crisp and detailed, I would say there is too much high end in it (you can see from the frequency response graph). But a bit of EQ and it is nice.. I put the Snare mic under the snare drum as they recommend and it was a nice sound to play with in the mix and quite accurate after EQ..

The kick I need to listen to more but from what I could hear was very bassy and fat sounding! Need to have another listen and see what the high end is like but the chart looks good. And as another reviewer said the overheads sound really good! Want to try them out on guitar etc.. And I tried one of the tom mics out on a guitar amp and it sounded like an SM57 pretty much..

I would recommend these to someone that wants a great bang for your buck they are interesting, unique sounding and looking mics and that was just what I wanted, they are still capable of achieving very accurate sounds but are tailored so that each mic unique sound will be useful for different styles and applications.

I have been a guitarist for 12 years. Started recording after taking a music technology class in high school at an engineering academy, in all have been recording in a basic home studio set up for about 5 years.

I use a Digimax LT 8 channel ADAT preamp into an EMU 1820 with Cubase sx3. On the playback, I use Senn. hd280's and EV monitors.

These are drum mics, nothing too fancy about them. They do not include rim mounts for the drums but for the price its not a big deal (a pack of rim mounts can cost as low as $30 for some of the simpler set ups). The mics sound great after you get the placement right. The end result is an impressively accurate reproduction of the drums without the need for a whole lot of EQing. I actually like these mics better than the 57's I had on the kit before (I borrowed them from a friend for about a year, then got these when he needed the 57's and beta 52 back). I find that most of these drum mic sets seem to be going for about $350, for the price I would certainly recommend them.

Same as any microphone plug it in set it up, They are Balanced dynamic and Condesor microphones So they can all Run on Phantom power without hurting the dynamic microphones since they are balanced.

Comes with:

1x Hardcase,
1x Kick/Snare Drum,
3x Rack/Floor Toms,
1x Percussion/bass,
2x Cymbals/Hi-hat.

Sound Quality: 8
This is where the Line between quallity and Value come in.

The Kick drum mic Is as good as any other not quite as good as a shure beta 52A But very impresive for the price.

Snar Mic is somewhat "Tinny" But i still recomend it for metal or anything like black metal, It is a good idea to put the snare mic under the snare and the tom mic over the snare, that truly gives a good sound.

Tom Mics, they are adverage but have a good Pick up responce. They are deffinatly worth the price paid.

Cymbol Mics, these are Phantom powered and are well AMAZING i find these are better than shures and even Cheeper!!!!!! I would say shures have totally lost out to this brand with these Condensor mics, I really recomend them.

Reliability: n/a

For value and good mics you cant beat these guys, its that simple. Want a good set of 7 Mics at a good price? Then get these they are awesome, if one suggestion I would say but a better Snare mic but other than that their Kickass.
