Reviewer Background
:
I just picked up a matched stereo pair of MC 930s, which are small pencil condensor mics and very close to KM84s in sonic quality.
Overall Rating
:
10
The MC 930 is a cardiod pattern and also features a -15 db pad and low cut switch on the body. The low end is lucious, the top end is smooth and sparkles. Like the KM84 the midrange is nothing short of spectacular. I chose it over the Gefell M300 and newer KM184, both excellent mics.
It has such a big sound that you can easily substitute it on vocals, instead of reaching for a LDC. It also shines on acoustic sources, acoustic guitars, OHs, ambient room mics, HH, small gtr amp combos.
I prefer recording to 2" analog tape, but also record to digital for live recording applications. The MC930 works well with a variety of pres from Great River to Focusrite. The build quality is superb. It did not include a shockmount.
In short, this mic is very smooth, flatters most sources and its rich detail makes it shine. A remarkable tool to say the least.
