Reviewer Background
:
I've worked as an live and studio engineer on and off for nearly 20 years. Over the years I've built up a reasonable collections of mics - from sm58's to AKG C414's and neuman tlm103.
I work freelance in several studios and have my own postproduction studio - protools based.

I've been using the beyer for vocals and acoustic guitars. When tracking I like to set up a few mics and record a quick test take giving each a seperate track and see what works.
The beyer has a smooth top end boost that works nicely with mellower acoustics and gives a nice big sound.
On vocals we're getting quite close to the neuman tlm103 that is my usual choice - for rock voices it actually works slightly better in a mix: remaining full sounding but cutting through a dense guitar heavy mix.
Compared to the AKG it's not quite as accurate but translates into an easier to mix track - I've used this for the lead vox on two album releases which says quite a lot.
For more subtle music - piano's and folk for example I'll stick with the akg and neumann.
The bass roll off and pad are a little but awkward and I'd prefer a bigger switch but it's not something I need to alter a lot so I'll live with it.
Very quiet in terms of noise and makes a nice clean recording.
A very nice mic and for the price I got mine an absolute bargain.
